Durant joins Curry, will sign deal with Warriors

Kevin Durant will sign with the Golden State Warriors.

Durant announced his decision in a post on The Players' Tribune.

The biggest catch on the free-agent market, Durant met with six teams the past three days: Oklahoma City, Golden State, San Antonio, Boston, Miami and the Los Angeles Clippers.

The 27-year-old Durant has spent all nine seasons of his career with the Thunder organization. He won the MVP in 2014, has been named first-team All-NBA five times and has made seven All-Star teams. He has appeared in four Western Conference finals and one NBA Finals, losing in five games to the Heat in 2012.

Durant bounced back last season to earn second-team All-NBA honors after undergoing three surgeries on his right foot to repair a Jones fracture suffered prior to the 2014-15 season, when he was limited to 27 games before undergoing a season-ending bone graft procedure in March. Without Durant, the Thunder missed the postseason.

With him back for 72 games last season, the Thunder improved to 55-27 and finished third in the West. The Thunder beat the Dallas Mavericks in five games in the opening round, upset the 67-win Spurs in six games in the second round and pushed the Warriors to seven games in the Western Conference finals.

Durant averaged 28.2 points, 8.2 rebounds and 5.0 assists last season, and he scored at least 20 points in 67 straight games.

In nine seasons, Durant is averaging 27.4 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game.

Information from ESPN's Chris Broussard and Royce Young was used in this report.

Looks like the cavs/warriors will dominate the nba finals kinda like the lakers/celtics did in the 80s

WOW
gunsnewing @ 7/4/2016 11:51 AM
I'm shocked then again not really. Durant/Curry is a better fit then you have Thompson & Green. Unbeatable WOW!!

Why is it that every time we field a good team the best teams raise their status to unbeatable. Jordan-Bulls, Lebron-Heat now this damn!

WaltLongmire @ 7/4/2016 11:51 AM
Unreal, and I truly believe he takes a hit in terms of prestige.

Makes Westbrook more of a possibility next year...no?

newyorker4ever @ 7/4/2016 11:52 AM
It seems like a sell out to me going to a team that can win it all without him. I know he's KD and one of the greats but....meh.

Five seconds or less offense.

They gonna go undefeated now smh...

See them in the finals.... with a Rose and Westbrook back court lol

Chandler @ 7/4/2016 11:53 AM
Lame beyond words.
jamp @ 7/4/2016 11:54 AM
Phil should go after Igoudala.

I have a feeling that Westbrook already told him that he wasn't fully set on coming back after next year for KD to make this choice.

sell out? The dude wants to win so i have no issue. As a knick fan i would have loved him here but there was no chance in hell he would win here

I cannot agree more with this- the only thing that would have seemed worse is if he had done it after consecutive championships for GS.

Lebron did the same. Once he wins a few rings it won't be an issue. The clock is ticking he wants to secure that ring like Lebron. This is worse for the league though. Durant might win the 7 rings Lebron was expecting. He's joining a team of stars in their prime unlike Wade. GS is so much deeper. This isnt fair

Has to do with being a "man."

It's Durant saying that "I'm not good enough to beat you, so I'm going to join you."

Gutless, IMO.

yeah it sucks. But this is why you need to draft well like the warriors did so you can attract other big names

Good point. I gotta real hunch we will see Westbrook in the bright lights of NY.

Anyway we can trade for Westbrook by the deadline and not have to wait til the summer of 2017?
