If we cut Williams we can't offer him that raise. That was our small chance of keeping him.
I'm sure Phil did all he could and had spoken with him anyway. But, I'm sure he would really really like to play here.
Maybe another 1 year deal? Free up some space by trading O'Q for a draft pick...
Nobody wanted Derrick Williams when we signed him. He's probably going to get 10 mill per anyway. We could only offer him 6... let it go. The Knicks will find a capable replacement.... Probably Lance Thomas.
derrick won't get 10 mil per year. 8 or 9, maybe. but not 10. the market is drying up
There's still plenty of teams with plenty of money still to spend so i wouldn't doubt if he gets $10
from who?
Philly, Nets, Dallas, Utah, Phoenix, Denver...here you go this is the teams that still have plenty of money to spend.....

Remember that these teams have to spend at least $84 million of the $94 million cap.
They can hold onto their cap room to use in mid-season trades. Philly has done that before, like when they got Javale McGee and a pick for cap room at the trade deadline.
If they don't get to the salary floor, they just pay the players on their roster more... so they don't HAVE to...

I'm not sure if you know this but we have a new front office now so i'm not sure how you can compare our new FO to the old ones that are no longer here.

Mills was with MSG from 2003 to 2009. He came back in 2013.
I agree the administration is mostly different. But Mills has some deep deep Dolan roots.

This is true but after D.Williams had a year that showed that the kid does have some good basketball skills i would think that there will be more than one team that will make him a offer.

Yes he was but had absolutely nothing to do with player personnel, he was working for Madison Square Garden operations.

I have heard conflicting things on this. He was deeply involved with the Isiah era. He's in a more direct role now - but he was COO of MSG and oversaw all sports related activities there and even then was known as Dolan's right hand man. I think it's safe to assume he in the room for a lot of basketball decisions.

Yeah, the training staff is totally responsible for Houston, McDyess and Amare's knees blowing up and Curry eating his way out of the league.
I'm not a Jennings fan but this is a very reasonable contract. Once we struck out with the legit high contract players like Horford and KD, I would have just given short, smaller contracts to role players like Aldrich and Jennings. Expiring contracts like Jennings could be real valuable if teams are willing to give up assets to get out of the bad contracts they just signed.

One big difference between this crop and at least Dice/Curry/Bargs is we didn't use any picks to get this current roster. If Noah/Rose/Melo all combine to play in 30 games next year and the Knicks win 20 games we will have a great draft pick, and will have that with great players potentially coming back.
I hear ya--that is definitely a silver lining--but I don't like being saddled with Noah and Lee for 4 years if it all goes to shit and doesn't work out, you know? That's the only thing that gets me. I wish they found a more economically feasible/cap friendlier way of going "all in." Like at 2G -- maybe a Joe Johnson or a Arron Afflalo for 2 years instead of Lee for 4, shit like that, but we'll see...

Aldrich??? 3yrs 22 million. The guy is a stiff. Terrible contract for this team. Sign him instead of Noah? That is a good way to stay at 32 wins.

those guys aren't as good. Lee has been a good player, and really fits exactly what we need. I was not in favor of trading for Rose and I did not like signing Lee to big money as I thought we could get more "better" guys. However when I look at all the moves as a package I really like how these guys fit together. When I consider the economic landscape the Knicks did a very good job. I mean good smart well run teams gave out stupid contracts... the Knicks stayed pretty smart. Imagine if the Knicks gave Ryan Anderson $80mm or Parsons the max?
Knicks did a good job. Its a good team with a ton of upside and nice individual parts.

I don't think it's safe to assume anything that you don't have any real truth to. S.Mills' name never was even heard of until a few years ago and he had nothing to do with the personnel department at all.

Obviously I'm not expecting him to be as good as the healthy Noah was. You're comparing $72 to 22 mil in cost. I think Noah's age, injuries, and trajectory make this too dangerous a gamble. Aldrich is a legit part of a 9 man rotation. For the record, I would not have traded Rolo for Rose. So Aldrich would just be a backup.

Noah should do wonders for the fluidity of the offense in addition to his vocal leadership. Even diminished he has the right mix of talents for the way this team wants to play. People are making a bit too much of his decline when IMO they aren't going to be relying on Noah to be what he once was. His defense, assist and rebounding are still good enough to help this team. His mentorship and passion is infectious and much needed.
Younger guys are going to play and he can help them.
Dude sound happy and appreciative of what playing in NY can do for him.
