As a backup point guard he absolutely does not suck
I'm not a fan of his...but he's had time to get healthy and we actually have the kind of team now where we can take a guy like Jennings because he's going to be low on the pecking order.3/1 assist turnover ration, and his numbers last year in 18 MPG don't seem terrible, although I'll let some of you advanced stats geeks talk about the metrics.
he doesn't defend at the nba level so we can start there. now if you tell me he's defending scrubs and mostly during garbahj time that's a different story. i much rather see langston galloway out there. the kid is an eager defender and he can hit big shots.
LG was never really a PG? Unless Phil can somehow work some magic and pick up a better back up at the 2. Galloway would probably be penciled in. But dont know if you remember LG's horrible shooting last year? This, in itself, does not change LT and LG probably getting signed.
he is listed as a pg on both bballref and espn. he's a triangle point guard not a "pure" point guard. he is a good defender which has to be the priority since the knicks have been a turnstile back there since forever. secondly, his shooting tailed off no doubt as the team as a whole imploded. prior to that however he hit some pretty big shots. maybe he got tired too i don't know.
yellowboy90 wrote:I am not a fan of his but as a back up this is a good deal but its still a 1yr rental with zero upside. So the knicks will likely go into next summer looking for both a starter and backup
We have our 1st rounder and chicago's second rounder to help with that
Good pickup for the knicks and you can move Rose to the 2 spot at times during the game.. I like it.
Good pick up phil..
I was a big proponent of trading for him last year with Detroit to be our rental pg for rest of the year as an audition for this year. This is a quality signing. The only reason we were able to get him on a one year, cheap contract is that he's been working his way back from an achilles injury, but he played well last year in a reserve role still not being 100% healthy.
If he cant get close to becoming 100% healthy again, he has the lightning quick speed to break down defenses and create for others. If he were 100% healthy, he would still be an upper-tier starter in this league. He is still young--26.
He's a perfect complement for the Horny style system with attacking pg's and pushing the pace. When Rose sits, Jennings will continue to push the ball with the 2nd unit and attack. He could easily play 20mpg and start in a pinch when Rose needs rest days, and we wouldn't be losing a lot and remain competitive.
There's nothing not to like about this signing.

He'll probably be retired after this year so you can go fishing with him if you want

Oh sh** I completely forgot Sasha was on the team. But good riddance to Seraphin.
Sasha is a minimum player. The Knicks could resign him

Ouch, losing Williams is really really going to hurt. The other guys I can live with.
If we cut Williams we can't offer him that raise. That was our small chance of keeping him.
I'm sure Phil did all he could and had spoken with him anyway. But, I'm sure he would really really like to play here.
Maybe another 1 year deal? Free up some space by trading O'Q for a draft pick...
rose/galloway/jennings
lee/holiday
melo/thomas
kp6
noah/hernangomez
knicks have nobody to bak up kp6 at pf now. weird shyt.

We have replacements for Amundson in Willy and Plumlee. No point worrying about 13-15 men.
Jennings turnovers ball over and takes horrible shots..not that type of pg you want on court alongside couple other role players

Nobody wanted Derrick Williams when we signed him. He's probably going to get 10 mill per anyway. We could only offer him 6... let it go. The Knicks will find a capable replacement.... Probably Lance Thomas.

Did they trade O'Quinn? Also, I think the Knicks may run with some 3 guard line ups. Also, Lance and Melo can play the 4.

Wanna know what's weird? Complaining that we don't have a backup 4 when the off season is far from over.
And yes we all have O'Quinn on the roster

ah okay my mistake. well that's better. in fact not bad.
Very solid signing for the Knicks--gives you a true legit back up who can step in and start--can also be used in 3 guard sets. This makes the Knicks better

i wouldn't mind picking up diaw if he is available and the knicks can afford it.
dk7th wrote:he can't defend or shoot at the nba level. he is a loser. if galloway is retained i hope to god he beats jennings out of the backcourt rotation.one year and 5 million. at least it's one year.
I'd have to seriously disagree with you he brought the Pistons back to life after they traded smith . When healthy he's a borderline all star. Gallo wishes he had the physical gifts Jennings has ..
No disrespect to Gallo nice lunch pail guy, and ice in vains ... But Jennings is on a completely different level .
