tid bits from toasting and posting

USA 113, Venezuela 69

Carmelo Anthony: 24 minutes played, 14 points on 5-11 shooting (2-4 from three), 3 rebounds, 1 assists, 2 turnovers, 1 steal

So long, Michael Jordan, you mom jeans-wearing motherfucker! There’s a new third-best all-time USA Olympic scorer, and his name is Carmelo Anthony. Melo passed the Bulls legend on the all-time list during America’s romp of Venezuela. Only David Robinson and LeBron James are ahead of him now, and he could very well pass them Wednesday night.

And his points mattered. After Team USA had farted their way through the first quarter, Melo joined the reserves and sparked an 18-2 run that broke Venezuela. America’s second unit has some great defenders, but they often lack that calming presence on offense, the guy who can post up when things start to get a little hectic and either get an easy bucket or kick out to an open shooter. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Melo in that role more often.

Lithuania 89, Nigeria 80

Mindaugas Kuzminskas: 15 minutes played, 8 points on 3-5 shooting (1-2 from three), 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 turnovers

Not the best game for Kuzminskas, as Lithuania really struggled to put away Nigeria. He did, however, have a nice tip-out on a critical rebound that sealed the game.

Brazil 66, Spain 65

Willy Hernangomez: DNP-CD

TRUE FACT: Spain has played four halves in these Olympics:

When Willy plays: 1-0

When Willy doesn’t play: 0-3

Get your act together, Spain.

has anyone see Kuz play yet?

I'm expecting this kid to be our Novak...2.0

EnySpree @ 8/10/2016 10:08 PM
Novak 2.0? Based on what? His highlights show him driving to the basket more than taking wide open 3s.... Novak was a wide open 3 shooter... he could do anything else.

I would hope so if he played 4 Olympics!!!

Jordan only played 2 Olympics, most of them blowouts, so he played maybe only half a game. 1 as a Collegian and 1 on the 1992 Dream Team.

The Admiral played on 4 and LeBron on 3. Playing on 4 Olympics should not minimize what Melo has accomplished.

I did not see the Lithuania game but it appears Kuz had a great game.

usa looks like garbage out there. wow. the refs look as though they're calling traveling too. there's no cohesion, it's all one on one.
dk7th @ 8/21/2016 3:03 PM
great harassing defense by serbia. making the usa look ineffectual. something dramatic has to happen with the us team or it's going to be very close.
dk7th @ 8/21/2016 3:06 PM
see they just called the travel on derozan. you can't be allowed the wade dribble in international ball.
dk7th @ 8/21/2016 3:31 PM
second unit ratchets up the defense and BAM up by 20. nice work! serbia looks rattled now.
DrAlphaeus @ 8/21/2016 3:31 PM
hasn't been pretty but serbia got down quick there
