Knicks · Derrick Rose vs. Top Competitors (page 2)

Knee surgeries of the sort Rose has endured tend to have a MUCH greater impact on defensive viability due to the lateral motion requirements. Offense involves more forward motion and cutting. Defense involves tons of lateral motion and back stepping, twisting and turning. It's brutal on the knees and post-ACL surgeries it takes a mental toll. I'm speaking from experience here. After my ACL reconstruction, my defense went to shyte, though I could still score quite well.

did you have the kind of million dollar rehab that these athletes have, were you 23/24 yrs young..

Rose was brought in to penetrate. That's going to be his role, something he does very well. We haven't had a guard that can consistently beat his man off the dribble in the long time.
mreinman @ 9/9/2016 1:26 PM
I read somewhere that Rose dunked once the entire last season. Now, I don't care for dunking but Rose does ... is he just being careful?

Hey! Tone it down a notch with the Rose heresy!

As long as he can do this to random doofy white dudes in practice, it means he's all the way back to MVP Rose (big maybe).

Let's see if the jury agrees.

Rose was not TRYING to dunk. Why should he at this stage of his career? He knows that it's not necessary for him to be making spectacular dunks and he's said so. If he decides to do a few just for the crowd that's up to him but last year he was trying to get thru without a major knee issue so why risk it? The thing is he can still get to the rim at will and the Knicks need that. Rose ran a lot of PnR and obviously we need that as well. Being able to breakdown a defense and create openings for himself and others is going to be the focus of Hornacek's offense.

I don't need him to dunk ... I need him to be efficient which he has not been close to.

Totally valid points. Nevertheless, defense will take a bigger hit. But I agree with you that Rose may have other mental challenges to his defensive lapses (e.g., laziness on that end, typical scoring guard's focus on offense only, ignoring defensive effort to avoid fatigue).

Good points. Still, knees will never be the same after so much surgical work. Gotta take a toll on the D.

I understand your point and i'm pretty sure Rose is working on his shooting and looking to be more efficient. However, there is more to the game than pure efficiency. Impact, Style of Play and Production are VERY important. Rose brings those other factors that you are overlooking. He may not be the most efficient PG but he has an impact on how the team plays, as in faster and more aggressive, how teams defend against the Knicks and his overall production will all help this team. Jose was far more efficient but didn't bring those other things.

how about being middle of the pack in efficiency, not bottom of the league?

I'm expecting Rose to improve. He started to show improvement during the Season and I suspect he's tightened up his game this summer knowing he needs to play his absolute BEST in order to get the contract he wants. This season means everything to him.
StarksEwing1 @ 9/9/2016 5:47 PM
Im kinda surprised how many Rose threads there are. I know its mostly one person but there are a lot of other things that i think are even more exciting. Obviously KP coming of his great rookie reason is the top thing IMO,hornacek getting another shot, how noah and cortney lee will really improve our defense, jennings, and, the debut of willy. Hell i even miss melo threads.

now you're talking out of both sides of your mouth. on the one hand you say rose was the linchpin/catalyst and he should play the way he wants to play, mvp level form and whatnot... which in your way of thinking is playing his "best." now you're saying by being more efficient he will be playing his best and earn that next contract.

I've been totally consistent in what i've been saying! You are the one trying to make it sound like i'm saying something contradictory. Stop putting words in my mouth that I didn't say. If you aren't going to post my exact quotes then don't try to paraphrase cuz you're twisting things to make it sound like i'm all over the place when i'm not. How would you like it if I just started making up exaggerated statements and saying that it's what you said?

You don't think adding a former MVP to your team is gonna lead to some threads? With all the questions marks there are with Rose and whether he can regain some of his former prowess, plus the fact that he's a PG and will have the ball a LOT, there's a lot of reason to be talking about him. You may not like him but Rose was a big deal.

yellowboy90 @ 9/9/2016 10:36 PM
what good is someone who can get to the rim but can't finish? The lack of Dunks are a concern because he is now avoiding contact which decrease his free throws and creates terrible finishing angles for him to score at the rim. Are we hoping he just has a banner year in Kobe Assists? If so maybe KP can have even more put back dunks.

Like I said before, I am not expecting much from Rose but hope he can have a Reggie Jackson type impact.

that's assuming people have a WWF mentality where you have to dumb shyt down to good guy/bad guy. some people are actually impartial, even-handed, fair-minded, dispensing critique and praise where warranted.

Excellent Post. As much as i hate knick haters there seems to be Another group that is just as bad. Optimism is good but that doesnt mean every move or decision the knicks make is fantastic. Im probably the biggest knick fan out there. I never miss a game and i go to multiple games(even though its expensive) HOWEVER i try to be impartial even if its not 175 percent positive. Unfortunetly that upsets a certain group and you get labeled a hater which is bullcrap
