Knicks · We're definetly going to have to up-grade the bench in order to make the PO (page 1)

knicks1248 @ 11/7/2016 2:41 PM
I thought we would be ok despite what the media was saying. Either JH finds the right 4 or 5 guys to bring off the bench, or we will have to do a 2 for 1 trade, to upgrade this bench.

Jennings can't carry the squad alone, and other than him, no one on the bench seems like a main stay in the rotation, which makes its hard to find any consistency because you gotta keep playing different guys every game. It's like a box of chocolate with those guys, you never know what your going to get

JesseDark @ 11/7/2016 2:50 PM
Who would you like that is out there? I was thinking if we had been able to have kept Derrick Williams he would have made up the deficiencies of the second unit. As for the players now I just don't know who is available.
Knixkik @ 11/7/2016 2:56 PM
Not sure what we can do this season. I definitely don't want to rush a trade this season just to try and improve the bench short term. Maybe there is someone out there who can help that is a free agent. Kevin Martin? He can flat out score. Otherwise, we will need the next offseason to upgrade the bench. We have a draft pick, which will likely be mid-1st round. Should get a solid rotation player there. And we need to find a couple underrated free agents. A stretch-4 would be nice. Patrick Patterson or Jonas Jerebko could help next to Porzingis, who would ideally play most of his minutes at center next year.
crzymdups @ 11/7/2016 3:20 PM
What about guys on this list?

I'm not sure what the deal with Gary Neal is, but he'd be a nice shooter for the bench.

Maybe also Dorrell Wright?

Not a ton of great options.

Lance Stephenson was waived by the Pelicans... don't know how long he'll be out for, but we could certainly use him on our bench.

Basically, I think we need a capable mid career vet with some experience who can score. Not easy to find... though not impossible.

Rookies cannot be expected to fix these types of problems. If they do, it is an unlikely surprise.

plenty of time for the team to figure things out. hornacek's rotations were thrown into disarray due to early foul trouble to kp6, i believe. his second foul was committed on an illegal screen, but rose took off too soon, a cardinal sin in the pick and roll. usually kp6 gets early rest, only to come back with the second unit of jennings, oquinn, thomas and holliday.

Those 4 guys aren't going to cut it, even with with rose/melo or Kp with that line up, they just don't seem the least bit sharp on either end. you can't even leave them out there for any stretch, because their so darn inconsistent.

Willy, plummlee or KUZ need to see some serious bench minutes, not token minutes( to see what he can do) or garbage minutes

The biggest disappointment is Lance IMO.

Wouldnt mind Phil adding a veteran big man with something left in the tank who can also mentor Willy and Kuz.

This is a team that could really use the Sheed, Kurt Thomas, Steve Novak, JR Smith bench crew that the 2012-3 Knicks team had.

callmened @ 11/7/2016 4:53 PM
exactly what i was concerned with heading into the season. too many unproved dudes off the bench. instead of overspending on noah, id rather have more proven role players.

anyways, the milk has already been spilled. nothing you can do now except hope for kuz, wille g and holiday to step it up

I saw that too but I thought I read he might be out 8-10 weeks! Plus, they never pulled the trigger on him before the season when they had a chance to get him cheap. I wish he was (I'd even entertain the idea of getting him hurt and rehabbing him--that's how much I like him), but sadly I don't think he's an option here.

Tell ya what, though -- I still like our bench despite the limited production of late. Half these guys aren't getting a real shot. We still have some in-house options to try out first before taking the next step (trade, DL call-up, etc.). Right off the bat, I'm just not that high on Kyle O'Quinn and Lance Thomas. We have other options at those positions beyond those guys--I say take a good, long look at those guys first, then go from there. Then beyond that, I really like our guard depth. I'm not a huge fan of Jennings' game but there's no denying he is talented, probably more talented than 3/4 of all backup PGs out there. I really like Justin Holiday...Not a big fan of Vujacic though he is capable of filling in at both spots, and Baker has talent and versatility (great pickup out of nowhere), and Randle's a phone call away. There's good depth here. How long will it take Hornacek to look beyond KOQ and LT? That's my question when looking at the bench. Hopefully sooner than later..

thomas is playing hurt. kuz needs more time to develop some defensive grit. i don't think you'll see very much of willy or plumlee. also we need more baker.

ya know in someways i agree but i want to see what kuz, willy and ndour can all do with jennings.... even in his short time on the court yesterday kuz looked better then LT who has been a huge disappointment.

willy
koq
kuz
holiday
jennings

that seems like a great back up team i just wanna see more of it

Jmpasq @ 11/7/2016 6:39 PM
great? really? it has nothing to do with offense no one on the 2nd unit plays any defense. This team has no athletic ability at the 2 and 3. They have a bunch of tweeners that are better off as small ball 4's

From all accounts, the bench is practicing defending the triangle, the bad news is, were the only team running it. So that can be a major problem, you could see that we look so ill prepared.

I would put KOQ and Thomas on the trade block

EnySpree @ 11/7/2016 7:55 PM
I'm all for a 2 for 1 trade... KOQ and Thomas should be able to pull someone. Im getting tired of seeing both players actually. I'm not a fan of Holiday either though I was pulling for him.

I wanna see Kuz play more. He's proven he can play. It can't be because of his defense because Thomas and the rest of the team have been terrible so far. I believe Kuz would contribute with no problem with heavier minutes. Willy has experience too. He should also be seeing more minutes.

StarksEwing1 @ 11/7/2016 8:50 PM
If we can make an upgrade without giving up too much im all for it BUT i dont want to trade picks or good young players. Realistically we arent expected to go far anyway. We need to keep building through the draft. With 3 picks next year we should be able to get more depth
