Knicks · Fastest way to get this team better 5 step plan (page 1)
BRIGGS@ 1/10/2017 2:55 PM
#1 Find a post player who can PROTECT the RIM but can also help get out on shooters yet still be a part of the offense #2 Find a PG similar to what we see in Malcolm brgodon with Milwaukee--good size skills smart. I dont think we will be low enough to get one of these franchise PGs but there are others that make sense. #3 Find 2-3 3 point shooters--thats why I wanted either Seth Curry or Forbes--a specialty player who can help spread the floor and be consistent hitting 3's #4 A shooting guard who has the ability to score 15-17 a game #5 An athletic wing capable of defending anyone's best player and doing a good job
Those are the 5 steps
smackeddog@ 1/10/2017 3:15 PM
I say hope we can trade Rose to the sixes for Noels or OK4
Move O'Quinn to free up time for the above and Willy
Tank to get a high pick and fix PG with it- get one who can defend
Sign a player that can defend the 3/4 spot
VCoug@ 1/10/2017 3:18 PM
No offense, but this isn't really a plan. It's more of an outline of what you want to do. A plan would include how to go about doing this.

yea.. step 1, draft superstar. Step 2. Sign superstar. Step 3, trade for great role players... I mean who are these guys you want to aquire Briggs? I mean your big plan was to acquire Allan Crabbe who is now being paid $18.5mm a year to come off the bench for a sub .500 team.
Who are the guys?
I figured when I first read this it would be yet another scenario to trade the guy with the no trade clause
Nalod@ 1/10/2017 3:48 PM
I think for most of us there would be 12 steps..........

And the key thing is how much you pay for each player (in dollars and in assets given up in trades). If you overpay for #1, 2, and 3, then you have no money left and 2 glaring holes. There isn't one golden list of needs for teams anyway. The best teams simply make every penny they spend go further than the rest of the teams do.

I would ultimately like to see us move KP to the center position within the next couple of years. Turn this team into a mismatch nightmare with 5 interchangeable players who can all shoot from the outside. Find a creative PG who can make plays. While Jennings is not the answer, he is a solid stopgap if we are unable to land one of the top available PGs in the draft. Jennings is erratic but makes plays.
Draft OG Anunoby or Miles Bridges (assuming we draft in the 10-12 range). Both can play both forward positions and defend at a high level. Bridges has a little more upside offensively, but Anunoby can be an elite NBA defender.
Develop Baker as our Brogdon-type player. He can be a nice combo guard off the bench. Would love to get my hands on late 1st round pick this year for Josh Hart. He's got a lot of that Brogdon-factor as well, a pretty complete wing who can shoot and create for others.
Use Willy as an elite bench scorer. We see teams coming off the bench with Monroe, Jefferson, Kanter, etc, guys who can get 20 and 10 easily, but are better in a reserve role. I think Willy would excel long-term as that, and see additional minutes next to KP, since they can play together.
Just continue to build from there, and i think we will be okay.
Nalod@ 1/10/2017 4:11 PM
Just score more than the opponent and this ONE STEP will improve things in a hurry!!

Don't forget about drafting Denzel Valentine. Oh and also, by drafting every athletic, tall PG in the draft that Phil would just love. And Brgodon? Really, is he the reason they are scorching the league at .500?

The guy singing is the knicks and their fan base, the other guys are the rest of the league &a the media:

Brogden is Milwaukees Landry Fields. Sometimes you just need a glue guy to keep things together. Milwaukee is all the rage!!!!
CrushAlot@ 1/10/2017 4:44 PM
Dragic and Mc Roberts for Rose works. Dragic played well for Jeff in Phoenix but wasn't happy when he left. Miami might do it. I don't think the Knicks owe Rose anything at this point.

thank you sir. lol. he just outlined the ingredients for a good team (which i agree). the question is HOW to acquire those pieces.
for the record...i dont know. lol. all i hope is for KP to keep developing. i dont think much can happen until Melo leaves and this team can truly rebuild. in the new CBA it will be hard to acquire good free agents.
knicks1248@ 1/10/2017 5:50 PM
how about we flip the roster again and again, and again, and again, and again...smdh

The roster flip will happen again. It's a given. I'm pretty sure Melo is going to remove the NTC and allow Phil to make the move. As for Rose. Phil is going to move him for a pick and players. The Knicks are going into tank mode and I'm totally fine with it.

You think Phil can move Rose for a pick and players? Also, I don't see Melo waiving his ntc and even if he did a trade would be very difficult. If the Knicks make moves I see them trading the young guys or picks for vets. I don't know if that is smart at this point. The one move that makes sense to me and seems like it might be possible is Rose to Miami for Dragic and McRoberts. I think Phil might have to include a second round pick to get that done but in the past Miami has wanted to get out from Dragic's deal.

Yes expiring contracts are huge deals.

I can't think of an example that fits what you are proposing in recent years. I don't know if the value is there anymore. The cba is set up so that players stay with their teams.

No way is Phil trading picks. Also Miami wants a lot more for Dragic than Rose. There is a big market out there for Dragic. Recently it was reported that teams thought Miami was looking for too much for Dragic. Probably looking for a high#1 or 2 #1 picks. This is Riley we are talking about. When has he ever lost in a trade?
