Knicks · Melo: If they feel my time in NY is over that's a conversation we should have (page 1)

VCoug @ 1/15/2017 7:32 PM

I know it's Isola but apparently that's a direct quote.

Full article: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basket...

Apparently, it's a direct response to the Charley Rosen article (http://www.fanragsports.com/nba/knicks/r...) from the other day.

holfresh @ 1/15/2017 7:36 PM
Very interesting given the article was written by Rosen about Melo's time in NY may be up..One thing it does do is set up a talk with Phil about the future..
dacash @ 1/15/2017 7:40 PM
Knicks are not that lucky, he also said he was not waiving that ntc
magicTs @ 1/15/2017 7:45 PM
Melo is not stupid, neither are his people. He will be well aware that even fans who have backed him continually (like me!) have realized that there is no way we ever get better till he is gone. That is a sad reality and its by no means all on him. He has been failed numerous times by those higher up in the organization. But things are simply not going to get better if he stays for another 2-3 years, nothing is going to align for Melo with the Knicks in terms of team success. He should seriously consider his legacy at this stage as he could still do something worthwhile elsewhere. These quotes are very indicative of the fact he is aware of the growing rumblings.
yellowboy90 @ 1/15/2017 7:46 PM
Nothing will come of this except a spiteful win streak to take the knicks out of the lottery
holfresh @ 1/15/2017 7:47 PM
Like Trump, that just set up a negotiation starting point..
arkrud @ 1/15/2017 8:06 PM
I said it and will repeat it.
Melo set himself up to be the one to make the decisions.
Now the time came to act on his own setup.
He lost the ability to blame others for consequences of his choices.
I guess this was smart... or was it?

I agree Melo left the door a little open. If Melo goes, Im guessing he wants Phil to be seen as the one driving this move (even though he has the NTC) and probably wouldnt mind leaving himself at this point.

If its a choice between a bad deal now, and a better deal this summer, I hope Phil waits. Rose I would move now, try for another expiring deal, like Noel.

Not trying to be funny here, but Melo would probably want to go to one of the LA teams because of his wife's career, and his kids as well. Engineering something that would address his and his family's needs probably has a better chance of happening over the summer.

No doubt.
But the trick is how make them take Melo out of our hands.
I do not think they will do this just as a favor to Phil.
Max player to come from the bench... kind of tough sell.
Melo is in no-man land. We need some serious idiots on the other side of the trade.
I cannot see them in LA...

BRIGGS @ 1/15/2017 8:17 PM
There is no chance the Knicks win with melo.
In the best interests of both the Knicks and CRmelo a divorce where the Knicks can acquire decent draft assets and young players would be in best parties both interests
Exactly how do the Knicks get much better from here with melo?
Not happening

good post. It would probably make more sense waiting for the summer in terms of value. As for rose they should try and get something for him even by eating some salary to get a better return

Why doesn't people think Nets?..He wants to stay in NY..I could see him wanting to do that and make a push for Rose..Dolan won't trade him to the Nets tho..

Melo is a 14 year veteran who has played about 20 seasons worth of minutes and has a bad shoulder. Waiting is too big a gamble IMO.

Why not. He will be delighted to make Nets even worse.

Dont know if Melo would want to go to a team that has been as f'ed as the Knicks over the years. At least the LA teams have some star power, or future star power.

That kind of thinking got us Ewing's crappy deal, and years of cap hell. Might not be a good deal out there that Phil can put together in a hurry. Sure try, but if not wait until the dust settles.

you make a good point. The problem is that he will only accept a trade to the cavs or clippers who dont have much to trade. Maybe during the summer he would expand his list and give us more value. I dont want to wait but i want a good return considering everything we gave up intially

No, I want to free up cap room, not do something that could hurt long-term.

Very well said and i am also one of Melo's biggest fans on here. I'm from Syracuse so obviously i'm a huge Cuse fan and Knicks fan which makes me a big Melo fan but even i can now say that Melo needs to really look at what he wants to do and if it's to win a championship then he has to realize that his time for winning one as the best player on the team has passed him and he now needs to be the #2 guy or even #3 guy on a team now to win a championship. That's not to say he's not a great player anymore cause he is but he needs to let someone else be the man on the team. If he does end up waiving his NTC i hope he understands that he'll always be loved by most New Yorkers and Knicks fans and doesn't leave with any type of anger towards the organization or Knicks fans and that will have as much to do with Phil and Dolan making sure he leaves with the proper send off as much as anything.

Then we are in agreement. Melo's shoulder is going to lower his value right now anyway, wont be easy to make a deal for cap relief if they're worried about him holding up. If anyone wants Melo mid season, it's probably for a playoff run.
