Knicks · Melo and Phil to meet in next few days (page 1)
I've given up on a Melo trade.
I actually like Melo. I think he's a good player and is true towards the Knicks. I think he's been a good big bro for KP. I just think Rose/Jennings/Lee have come in and ruined the entire team chemistry. It just didn't fit.
Rebuild the team around KP/Melo, with Melo as a point forward 4 man, and KP as the 5. Horny needs athletic shooters at 3, 2 and 1. We just need to unload some of the disgruntled zero defense playing vets ASAP. We need to find players who play like Kuz, Baker and Holiday, only better and more capable to start at 3, 2 and 1. I think we have no other choice but to go this way since Melo won't waive his NTC.
I'm fine with it, so long as Melo allows KP to keep developing which I think he will. We'll be adding a lottery pick in the summer and can get younger and more athletic with the draft pick and other moves we make.
Even if Melo retires a Knick, so long as the team around him is KP and other younger guys developing, it's fine with me. Just get rid of the self entitled vets who play zero defense and think way too highly of their accomplishments.
It worked out well for Melo he gets a kicker and a destination of choice who gets that in the real world.
The next Rosen column will be "Melo is a ball stopping chucker, he should just retire so Phil doesn't have to go through the embarrassment of trading him."
And so on and so forth.
Phil has been here three years in March - supposedly he doesn't have a relationship of any kind with Melo, despite Melo being the guy he chose to build the team around. Just mystifying. If Phil disliked Melo so much, he should've let him go...

What i feel Melo needs on this team if he stays here is a star player that is a leader on and off the court. I think Melo is only a leader with his offensive numbers he puts up but not where you need your leader most which is vocally on the court and in the locker room. Melo is a quiet guy and not the kind of guy to take over vocally on the court and on the sidelines and while Rose would be good enough with his stats as well he's also a quiet guy. You would think that Noah would of done that but i think he's more a leader with his actions on the court and his energy so either find a way to get that star player that will take over the leadership role which will be tough to do or trade every vet we can trade and just go young and keep building which Melo will either get behind but will also have to realize that he's not gonna be doing much winning if we go young and because of that he might decide to waive his NTC and go elsewhere that he can win right away. If we could get C.Paul on this team next year i think he'd be exactly what we need with his leadership and being Melo's buddy maybe Melo would let him take that leadership role and having C.Paul would help getting other bigger name players to come here.
The pressure is mounting on Melo to make a decision.
He can stay in NY to spend time with no other purpose but pride.
Or he can give his bbal life some meaning and joy by joining winning situation and competing for the Ultimate Prize in play-offs.
It is difficult decision but it is his to make.
Phil can help him to move forward or will do nothing as he basically has his hands tied.

We had the lesser version of leader like Paul in Billups and it worked very well.
This kind of player even if he is at the tail end of his prime is paramount for team building in NBA or any team sport.
This kind of players is very hard to get. Most of the time organization have to be lucky to have them emerged from inside.
If I would be Melo I will do just about anything to have Paul as his PG.
The Knicks will go on to trade all of Phil's off season trades for a bag of donuts and win the Championship.
Or absolutely nothing will come out of meeting.

Get Paul and draft a PG in the draft to sit and learn behind Paul which there aren't many other PG's that would be great to sit and learn from than C.Paul. To get C.Paul though will come down on Melo's shoulders. He needs to become the GM and use his friendship to get C.Paul to come help him in New York which will be a tough task to pull off.

Wow....would agree. Good post. We all have to realize that there are 29 teams a year and fan bases that feel they made mistakes in personnel. There are probably only about 5 teams a year that feel they are going in the right direction. There are 15 million fans that feel they can do a better job. Fact is, you can only change obvious deficiencies. Melo is not going anywhere, NTC, loves NY (don't know why) is not a quitter and doesn't want to take easy way out like KD. So what do we really need to do. Noah didn't work.out, tey to trade him, not many takers and play KO or Willy or KP at 5. Rose, didn't work.out, get a pro PG that can make open shots, play some defense and run an offense. Get a better SG. Has Lee played better than AA? Lastly, get a defensive minded coordinator to teach some defense.

I can't see how you can say Noah didn't work out half way through the season and he's been playing much better lately especially with his rebounding. Anyone that thought he was coming here to put up some great offensive numbers were fooling themselves cause that's not what he does. He'll never be the Noah of old but he can still defend and rebound enough to start for us and the only thing to take him away from starting is if they make the switch of Melo to the 4 spot and put KP at the 5. Now i would have no problem trading Noah especially if we were gonna make those switches but KOQ is not a starter and think he's perfect for a first center off the bench role.

I just looked at Noah's numbers- they're not bad. Of course, what counts is wins & losses, and how it seems.
Rose & Jennings are the big offenders.

I'm not wasting any pixels defending Rose and Jennings at this point, but there are only two teams worse than us defensively at center, Philly and Brooklyn.
Noah was supposed to be better than this.
He also needs to tell him this is what it feels like to have the spot light on you, and stop talking. It effects team chemistry.
Melo will have to initiate any discussion about trades, e.g., possible landing spots. But seriously even without the NTC this seems remote. How would we get a trade to work -- who would give real value in return

I have 17 million reasons and 4 year contract to say he has not worked out. Sure he has some value and is a gutsy player. But a 17m starter he is not. You just mentioned attributes that we could have gotten from many parenial back ups. KO comes to mind. Aldridge. Etc. But I hope your right and I'm wrong and he doesn't turn out to be a big restriction against our cap and ability to improve. But it's already looking that way. Btw, did you notice JH may be benching him?

Melo will have to initiate any discussion about trades, e.g., possible landing spots. But seriously even without the NTC this seems remote. How would we get a trade to work -- who would give real value in return
Im kind of thinking tall this has been said or implied for 3 years?
Real value in return? Sometimes addition by subtraction alone is helpful, but the fact is we can get good assets by trade.
I don't see Melo as the problem on this team. THe problem is not that obvious either.

Why Phil will keep repeating the obvious?
You cannot teach the tiger to eat grass.
Value of the player can only be found when he is on the market.
Things which are not for sale have no value.
