I've given up on a Melo trade.I actually like Melo. I think he's a good player and is true towards the Knicks. I think he's been a good big bro for KP. I just think Rose/Jennings/Lee have come in and ruined the entire team chemistry. It just didn't fit.
Rebuild the team around KP/Melo, with Melo as a point forward 4 man, and KP as the 5. Horny needs athletic shooters at 3, 2 and 1. We just need to unload some of the disgruntled zero defense playing vets ASAP. We need to find players who play like Kuz, Baker and Holiday, only better and more capable to start at 3, 2 and 1. I think we have no other choice but to go this way since Melo won't waive his NTC.
I'm fine with it, so long as Melo allows KP to keep developing which I think he will. We'll be adding a lottery pick in the summer and can get younger and more athletic with the draft pick and other moves we make.
Even if Melo retires a Knick, so long as the team around him is KP and other younger guys developing, it's fine with me. Just get rid of the self entitled vets who play zero defense and think way too highly of their accomplishments.
What i feel Melo needs on this team if he stays here is a star player that is a leader on and off the court. I think Melo is only a leader with his offensive numbers he puts up but not where you need your leader most which is vocally on the court and in the locker room. Melo is a quiet guy and not the kind of guy to take over vocally on the court and on the sidelines and while Rose would be good enough with his stats as well he's also a quiet guy. You would think that Noah would of done that but i think he's more a leader with his actions on the court and his energy so either find a way to get that star player that will take over the leadership role which will be tough to do or trade every vet we can trade and just go young and keep building which Melo will either get behind but will also have to realize that he's not gonna be doing much winning if we go young and because of that he might decide to waive his NTC and go elsewhere that he can win right away. If we could get C.Paul on this team next year i think he'd be exactly what we need with his leadership and being Melo's buddy maybe Melo would let him take that leadership role and having C.Paul would help getting other bigger name players to come here.
We had the lesser version of leader like Paul in Billups and it worked very well.
This kind of player even if he is at the tail end of his prime is paramount for team building in NBA or any team sport.
This kind of players is very hard to get. Most of the time organization have to be lucky to have them emerged from inside.
If I would be Melo I will do just about anything to have Paul as his PG.
Wow....would agree. Good post. We all have to realize that there are 29 teams a year and fan bases that feel they made mistakes in personnel. There are probably only about 5 teams a year that feel they are going in the right direction. There are 15 million fans that feel they can do a better job. Fact is, you can only change obvious deficiencies. Melo is not going anywhere, NTC, loves NY (don't know why) is not a quitter and doesn't want to take easy way out like KD. So what do we really need to do. Noah didn't work.out, tey to trade him, not many takers and play KO or Willy or KP at 5. Rose, didn't work.out, get a pro PG that can make open shots, play some defense and run an offense. Get a better SG. Has Lee played better than AA? Lastly, get a defensive minded coordinator to teach some defense.
I can't see how you can say Noah didn't work out half way through the season and he's been playing much better lately especially with his rebounding. Anyone that thought he was coming here to put up some great offensive numbers were fooling themselves cause that's not what he does. He'll never be the Noah of old but he can still defend and rebound enough to start for us and the only thing to take him away from starting is if they make the switch of Melo to the 4 spot and put KP at the 5. Now i would have no problem trading Noah especially if we were gonna make those switches but KOQ is not a starter and think he's perfect for a first center off the bench role.
I have 17 million reasons and 4 year contract to say he has not worked out. Sure he has some value and is a gutsy player. But a 17m starter he is not. You just mentioned attributes that we could have gotten from many parenial back ups. KO comes to mind. Aldridge. Etc. But I hope your right and I'm wrong and he doesn't turn out to be a big restriction against our cap and ability to improve. But it's already looking that way. Btw, did you notice JH may be benching him?
He was gonna get that 17 million per from someone and if he's not worth 17 then it's not far off of that number that he is worth with the contracts that have been handed out the last two years, maybe you should take a loook at what players got last offseason and start with someone like Briggs' boy A.Crabbe.
I did see that he might get moved to the bench but have you been paying attention that if that happens that it would have more to do with getting Melo to play his better position at the 4 spot and KP at the 5 more than it would have to do with how Noah is playing??
I don't mean this as harsh criticism of Noah - he's OK and he's done about what I expected. But we replaced a $12 mil per year *starter* who worked well with KP with a $17 mil per year backup. (And even if he doesn't get moved to the bench, he's not playing starters minutes.)

let's also note that robin lopez has shown some inclination to take jumpers as well. noah used to, but how many has he taken this season? less than 10, i'd say. this is why he needs to go to the bench, because he can only score in the paint now.
