Melo re-affirmed to phil that he will NOT lift his no trade clause. So trade scenarios involving melo are useless. lol. he asked for a no trade clause for a reason. lol. so we have him for at least another few yrs (until his ETO in summer of 2018 - which he'll opt out to ask for another max contract).

Carmelo Anthony informed Phil Jackson on Tuesday that he has every intention of remaining with the Knicks and told the team president that he has no desire to waive his no-trade clause, the Daily News has learned.

A person close to Anthony confirmed that Anthony and Jackson had met on Tuesday, two days after Anthony lashed out at Jackson after a critical column written by a confidant of Jackson's implied that Anthony’s days in New York should be coming to an end.

“Nothing has changed,” the source told the Daily News. “(Carmelo) wants to stay in New York and win in New York.”

ESPN first reported that Jackson and Anthony met Tuesday afternoon prior to the Knicks traveling to Boston. The source close to Anthony denied an ESPN report that the highly anticipated meeting became contentious. The Vertical, citing a league source, described the meeting as “calm” and “business-like.”

Carmelo Anthony says if Knicks don't want him it's time to talk
Anthony has told reporters repeatedly and as recently as Monday that he is committed to the Knicks and that he has not considered waiving the no-trade clause that was included in the deal Jackson gave him in July 2014.

“I’ve never even thought about that,” Anthony said Sunday. “I guess people are talking about it but it’s not something I’ve thought about so far.

“People can have their own opinions but I haven’t mentioned it once. But that seems to be the trend when you start losing, people want to start searching.”

Following Sunday’s loss in Toronto, Anthony appeared annoyed as he responded to an article written by Jackson’s long-time friend and occasional co-author Charley Rosen in which Rosen was highly critical of Anthony and stated that he was no longer valuable to the team.

Anthony, who was aware of the story before being questioned by reporters, suggested that Jackson’s fingerprints were on the story.

"If that's the case, if that's where it's coming from, that side, I guess it's a conversation we should have," Anthony said Sunday. "If they feel my time in New York is over, I guess that's a conversation we should have."

Anthony, 32, has two years left on his contract. Last February, the Daily News reported that Anthony and LeBron James had a brief discussion about Anthony orchestrating a trade to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Anthony, however, told his good friend that he wasn’t ready to give up on New York.

The Knicks enter Wednesday’s game against the Boston Celtics with an 18-24 record, including 10 defeats in their last 12 games. The club has not reached the postseason for three straight years.

The NBA trade deadline is Feb. 23 which gives Anthony time to re-consider a deal or, if you will, Jackson more time to convince Anthony that leaving would be in his best interests as well as the teams.

The Jackson-Anthony relationship, which has been on the rocks for nearly two years, has deteriorated rapidly this season. Anthony was upset that Jackson was quoted as saying that the nine-time All Star stalls the offense. They met briefly in Los Angeles last month to discuss the comment.

The most recent controversy has led some in the Anthony camp wondering if Jackson is intentionally picking a public fight with the veteran forward in the hopes that Anthony becomes so fed up he agrees to a trade.

There are several problems with that theory, starting with the fact that Anthony’s contract, which includes a trade kicker, is not easy to move.

Moreover, Anthony enjoys playing in New York and under the circumstances he would not give Jackson the satisfaction of running him out of town.

Another option is simply releasing Anthony but that transaction would have to be run past Garden Chairman James Dolan first. Dolan, who has maintained a close relationship over the years with the player he traded for, may not want to cut Anthony and eat the final two years of his contract.

How dare he.

I wanna see how this team responds the rest of the way when KP comes back and if Jeff does start him at Center. There's more than enough time for this team to get it's act together and start actually winning more of these games they shouldn't have lost. I've been calling for Melo and KP at the 4/5 so I wanns see it for a long stretch of games to see how it actually works out.
smackeddog @ 1/17/2017 5:06 PM
The priority for me (and our salvation) is a top draft pick. We're not going to get anything of value for Melo (the teams he'd be willing to go to have nothing to give us), so I'm fine keeping him on the roster while we rebuild (cap space isn't very important because there won't be any major gains by free agency)
Knixkik @ 1/17/2017 5:14 PM
Fine by me. Let's try to build this team the right way. Melo can still be of value as a scorer. The roster is poorly constructed and we learn what is needed better and better each day. Clearly, Rose is a terrible fit, so we need to continue to search for the right PG. We need to keep Melo at the 4, with KP playing most of his time at the 5. Noah and O'Quinn still have plenty of use off the bench, especially against bigger teams. Willy is odd-man out for awhile, but will develop and get his opportunities. Kuz is a great fit offensively. Pair him with a defensive stud at the 3 and they can split those minutes next to Melo. Kuz provides the offensive spark and we have another guy who can be the stopper. Lee and Baker offer a nice SG combo. If we address the PG situation and find that missing defensive forward, we can be a decent team.

Can Phil be traded though?

Should we give him a max contract on 2018?
Especially after we will trade KP for Labron James...
Imagine this!!!

Disappointing if accurate but 100% unsurprising.

I love the bit that claims he wants to "win in NY". Phil should have said that ain't happening bro, we will never win enough games with you still part of the Knicks to avoid a low play off seeding (at best) thus meaning we are one and done in the play offs given the timeline.

Oh well, hopefully they get rid of Rose and others asap to rebuild that way! I would also sit Anthony and rest him a lot the final quarter of the season when we should be prioritizing as high a draft pick as possible.

Touche.

The guy has to clean up his act that is for sure. Disappointed in Phil for not speaking what he really wants. He wasn't suppose to ask do you want to build a snowman?
nyknickzingis @ 1/17/2017 5:24 PM
We might as well give it a try with KP at the 5, Melo at the 4, Rose at the 2 with Baker at point and hopefully Phil can trade for an athletic 3 that can defend soon. Melo ain't going anywhere. Might as well try to win. Will we win though? I doubt it. Not unless moving KP to the 5 Melo to 4 and Rose to the 2 has a major impact on how we play.

Perhaps Phil doesn't really want Melo to go. Perhaps he just wants Melo to do certain things differently. In the end KP and Melo are the strongest players we have and they should be good together at the 4/5. I want to see that for a while and see how it works. Until we've tried everything there's no need for Phil to go into a meeting with Melo expressing he wants Melo to leave.

This season was NEVER about winning a title this season to begin with. The hope was to make the playoffs and build from there. They still have time to do that and if not then you say goodbye to Rose and Jennings and you do your best in the draft and Free Agency this summer.

Hey IMO there's a very good shot that Melo n KP at the 4/5 can work well. Let them do it for a while and see what it looks like. I actually like how baker and Kuz have looked with a greater role.

We need to tank to see if we can recoup a top tier PG from this upcoming draft. I say, blow this the hell up around Melo and KP; then do what needs to be done. Melo doesn't want to leave? That's fine. That doesn't mean we have build around or with him either.

Phil gave him the ntc. His deal is so large it would be very hard to move him anyway. He also has the second largest trade kicker in the league. Phil negotiated this deal.
franco12 @ 1/17/2017 7:00 PM
I think this is something of a me first problem with Melo - and part of the reason that he is- not through action, but being- a cancer to the team.

Everyone else can be traded or released, but not Melo? He is immune from criticism.
