some good ones in the draft.
The only positive of this team so far this season is that they look like they have two foundation pieces longterm in Willy and KP at the 5-4. I have great faith in the Knicks being able to do well with those two. Outside of that, this roster is just a mess. Phil Jackson has capspace this summer if he chooses to let Rose walk, and it would be in our best interests to only sign someone who is in that 25 or younger age group that KP/Willy are. The other thing is the lottery pick. It's going to be there. Hopefully we can draft someone as good or valuable as KP and Willy.
I'm extremely frustrated with how Melo/Rose ignore the team part of the game. They are so talented. If they just shared the ball more, looked for teammates more and their own number less, it would help so much. When you play together on offense, you play together on defense. KP said it right. When the team was 3rd in the East at 14-10, they were getting by on talent. Now that injuries have come into play and teams have scouted us, we needed to evolve as a team. We just haven't. We rely too much on the talent of Rose/Melo to do something great to win games. Poor team basketball.
Anyway, 35 more games left of this bummer of a season. I am far more sadenned by this team this year than last year's team. Last year's team did what they were capable of. Maybe overachieved early, but 32 wins was about right. This team has 45-50 win talent. They'll probably struggle to get 32. Just because they are extremely selfish and Horny has handled the Noah/Rose situation poorly as well. Phil definitely deserves blame for this mess. He thought he was getting veteran talent that would play together. He went for talent hoping it would fit eventually. Just won't. Worse, is that KP is suffering. Am I the only one that sees that KP gets the ball more when Jennings/Baker are in the backcourt versus when Rose/Melo are playing? We are huring KP's progress by playing him with alongside Noah (instead of Willy or starting him at 5) and to share the ball with Rose/Melo. I say this almost after every game, win or lose. But we should stop focusing on the playoffs. If we do well great. Focus on getting your younger players right minutes, right rotations and right roles. KP hit or miss should be our #2, not Rose. Melo's fine if he's the #1. If Melo isn't being traded, we need to move Rose. Both of them together are just toxic for the team work aspect of it.
Yuck, man. Last year when we were losing like this I atleast appreciated the efforts and type of team work Lopez, Jose and crew were trying. This year's team, I just don't like. I hate how they play basketball. It's the worst kind of ball. Me first, no defense, low effort. I look forward to serious change soon.

I thought KP looked much better on the offensive end, i liked his aggression. It was settling for jumpers that has hurt him recently. He was fighting on the offensive boards and getting as close to the basket as possible looking to score.
He's trying, but there is no real continuity on this team. Looks like he is trying to find his
place on a crowded floor.
Melo and rose had a hot potato contest. Who can have the most unforced turnovers
KP played like shit tonight tooo. He's getting some bad habits from our leaders

i think he is still injured too. Achilles injuries can be scary and lingering.
Wally, 'I don't know what has happened to Porzingis." Hopefully it comes out that he is injured or something.

Yeah, at this point, all that matters is KP, Willy, and that draft pick. Time to build a future and figure out how to turn some of the other vets into younger talent for the future.

I think we've all seen enough to know what we have. Phil has to make a move to try and either address the PG spot or make a trade to break this up and go with a youth movement.
This team is stuck in a bad leadership loop! We can't win with Rose and Melo being the decision makers. They simply can't make good decisions consistently enough. I don't see that situation changing. This can get a little better but ultimately they need a REAL FLOOR LEADER!!!

Could be part of it. Its a bad situation all around. Hope there is a big house cleaning this summer, cause this isn't working.

And where does the coaching staff fit in all of this. I think Rambis needs to go but this team plays like there is no preperation. Earlier in the season Hornacek had the team coming out of time outs and executing plays. When did things get so messed up?
I didn't watch the game, but my friend said the problem was switching on defense and too many turnovers. Anyway. At least Willy got to play a little more.
what is puzzling but not really is that KP at the 5 is creating zero space because he can't set good screens just yet.
Chandler wrote:Melo and rose had a hot potato contest. Who can have the most unforced turnoversKP played like shit tonight tooo. He's getting some bad habits from our leaders
KP did play like crap in the 1st half and continues to struggle since the achilles injury.
I don't excuse his play as anything good. He's got to play better and he's playing pretty bad.
The thing for me is that KP is 21. He's supposed to mess up, learn and eventually become a smarter more consistent player around 23. It's frustrating we have to watch Melo and Rose do the same, when they are vets and probably not Knicks next year. Worst is Noah. My god watching him play makes me cringe.
To me if Willy or KP or Kuz or Baker screw up, it's somewhat worth it because you feel that they are so inexperienced that with time they will get it. They also barely make any money or count against the cap. Rose and Melo and Noah take up majority of our cap, make between 18-25 million each. And they play nothing like vets. That's what irks me so much. I've become disgusted at watching them as starters. I can stomach Melo if he's playing with Willy, KP, and a different group. I can stomach Rose in the same. But when Noah, Rose and Melo play together it's like nails on a chalk board.
I hope at some point Horny has the balls to do what is quite obvious. He has to start benching players even if they are veteran stars. I think it's so painfully obvious that the chemistry is poor with Noah, Melo and Rose in the same lineup that only a blind man can't see it. Which means that Horny must see it. Which means if he's still starting them, it's about not wanting to lose your team. Horny starts them to avoid drama. If he brings Rose/Noah off the bench, he'll have more problems with his vets. Hate that about this team.
One thing I did get from the game was Breen saying, "Why did he pass the ball", referring to Melo passing it to Baker. That was something I never thought I would hear late in the game. Lol.

You saw it when he played next to Willy..Willy set great screens and rolled..Willy had great movement to the basket and in the lane..The ball found him...That's what KP needs to do..

I think if Willy and KP get some playing time together they will figure out the offensive side.
I really wonder if KP is still hurt. His mojo has been off since he came back. At this point, there's no point in him injuring it further. Might be good to shut him down for a week or two.

I think it will come as he gets stronger yet setting a good screen is more about positioning and timing so it might not just be a strength thing.

I would blame the injury but he has looked poorly on defense defending the perimeter all year and all someone has to do is give him the slightest pump fake and he is going to foul them.
Wow just realized you made this the game thread lol
