Knicks · So we are okay with trading Melo for Love or JJ F...N Redick? (page 2)

EnySpree wrote:Also.... why would we want Reddick or Love? Reddick is old now and Love plays KP'S position? That's obvious. Just because the media makes a report doesn't mean it is true. And again...they say Phil is hard to get in contact with. So stop calling out his name. Mills is the GM. I'm sure he is doing his job well and reporting back to Phil. We are at the feeler stage.... I'm sure thing will pick up when they need to. It's a month until the trade deadline.

KP is really a center. Love is a 4. Otherwise i agree.

Yes, all rumors. Biggest take away from this is not the possible trade rumors but that Phil is willing to, yet again. make a deal where we get nothing in return. And yes, I know, we get cap space. Is that what we hired the great Phil Jackson for? Salary dumps? Any GM could have done that. And if cap space is so important, how does Noah's 17M help that for the next 4 years? Rose's 21M this year? Could have really used it to help get a couple of role players that would at least compliment our two stars?

Phil has definitely let down in free agency. Knicks are not a contender so it's hard for Phil to convince top free agents to sign. He will continue to struggle to do that.

Where capspace can help is the Knicks can maybe get some younger quality role players. Hope Phil has learned his lesson. Maybe he has maybe he has not. I don't know.

I hope we get something good for Melo or we keep him. I like Melo. I think we must spilt up Rose and Melo. Their chemistry sucks and it's no good for KP to be the lost man in that trio. Here's the issue. Rose is 28 so almost 5 years younger than Melo. He also is a free agent. You will get more for Melo.

Still I would not trade Melo away for peanuts and cap space. I want to get a good young player, or one good draft pick. Austin Rivers and cap space is not enough.

So teams are calling the Knicks? That's good. They need to communicate with Mills? So what? You think he doesn't pass it along to Phil? Phil has not said a word about Melo or really anything. How are people saying he is devaluing players?

How have the things Phil said, about Melo this year, helped in increasing Melo's trade value? He has made it seem as though Melo is the teams biggest problem. But now he expects to gain value for him? He is pretty smart. He knew that starting fires would get Melo to consider waiving his NTC. Great it worked, now what will the Knicks, not Phil, get out of it? Think this was a pissing contest by a stuborn old man looking to prove that he is the only one that can bring a chip here.

The problem here is that Melo can't fetch anything good in return. Bad contract one dimensional player. He shoots 42% he is a product of shots. There is no market for him. If there is it's going to be a bear market. Only thing I can see Phil getting for Melo is cap space. That would be a good move. I don't think we are going to get much for him because he is diminishing player with a bad contract.

This is my thing. Everyone is getting mad and excited about reports from a media that never had a clue what they are talking about. They haven't been right about Phil from day one. They never know what he's doing until he does it.

Also Mills is the General Manager. That's his job to communicate with trans about trades, not Phil. I wish guys would cut it out. As I said before on here..... fans want the drama. That's what's fun to then, not the knicks.

Bottom line.... Phil knows what he's doing. Attention needs to be placed on how we can build going forward. Melo is at the end of his career. We should not be trying to build around him anymore. We could stand pat and do nothing and still be alright. We want to maximize our assets and prepare for the draft and the off season. That's what this is about.

Melo was in trade talks last year at deadline
What we need to do is look, shop. Be patient and wise. Keeping Melo is hardly a bad thing. He is a good big bro to KP. I just want Rose gone from the team ASAP if Melo stays. Let Melo/KP be the top 2 rest of the season with a PG that will pass and set them up. Work hard on defense.

Horny BtW texted Melo and said he deserves to be an all star. I don't think Horny has a problem with Melo at all.

Melo may not be a superstar but he is far from the problem with this team. We need better defence, more ball movement and team work. He can do it with KP but we need unselfish teammates that defend around them (No Rose, No BJ). And we need to move KP to 5 and Melo to 4 when they play together.

Even if they make the deal work, what indication has Melo given he will leave. He doesn't seem he wants to go. He seems happy. I have to say, Melo has his faults, but I would not accept anything less than a lottery pick or lottery talent or a similar veteran all star player back. When KP made his dunks tonight, the guy happiest for him on the bench to high five him was Melo, He's been good for KP, not bad. The problem for us has been that we play one on one basketball and don't communicate on defense. We need to rebuild with younger players. Fine. But we could do that with Melo as well if he refuses to waive the NTC. Let Rose walk, don't make mistakes like in the past and sign younger free agents. Don't look for a flashy name point guard, someone steady who has great leadership skills and will run the right play on offense.

I get the feeling even if Knicks agree to something, Melo isn't accepting. The Boston Celtics paid Al Horford Melo money (and more). Anyone want Al? There are far worse players on worse contracts. Melo's contract expires when KP will be 23. It's perfect time for KP to either show he is ready to be the man, and take his spot, or someone else to. I am open to trading Melo, but I do not see it an absolute or a bad thing if he stays. What I think is a must is we must stop starting Noah, we must split up Rose/Melo ASAP. We should be shopping for a veteran steady point guard BAD. We probably aren't seeing as this coaching staff is still starting Noah and still allowing Rose to play as if he's MVP Rose.

If he could go to the Clippers without them giving up Blake, CP3 or Jordan I think he would. He has a home in LA and is close to CP3. He also gives that team a much better shot at getting to the finals. I think the teams that the Knicks have chosen to talk to are either teams they think he would go with or teams he said he would go to. Without the ntc I think you engage Orlando, OKC, Boston in trade talks.

Wojo is the guy who made the report yesterday about the Clippers and Celtics supposedly being involved - or at least the Knicks contacted them. But Wojo made that report, so you have to think it's legit.

Stein saying the Knicks and Clips are looking for a third team to make the deal work.

I don't know if I like that trade. I'm not sure.

In some ways, I think it'd be better for the Knicks to rebuild.

And I'd also like to see Melo get a real chance in the playoffs - a team with Blake, CP3, DeAndre, and Melo? That's pretty damn good.

I'm not sure it's a good move and I don't like how Phil has handled this at all. He's made it public and messy when it didn't have to be. It feels like Phil is actively trying to sabotage the team - he's come out and said stuff about Melo in December, the Rosen column a few weeks ago, and then the trade rumors leaked...

Bobby Marks on The Vertical Podcast with Chris Mannix:

I’ve talked to a lot of teams, and it’s not just the media that he’s not out in the public with. He’s not an easy man to get in touch with. If you’re going to try to make a trade proposal with the Knicks, you’re not going to Phil Jackson. You’re going to Steve Mills. And that’s how it’s been for teams in the trade process.

So teams are calling the Knicks? That's good. They need to communicate with Mills? So what? You think he doesn't pass it along to Phil? Phil has not said a word about Melo or really anything. How are people saying he is devaluing players?

Good post and well said.

These writers just come up with stuff so they have something to put out for people to read.

Phil is doing right thing for Melo.
He probably promised Melo the Chip and he is trying to stay with his word.
Melo has 100 times more chances to get to the top that Knicks in next 2-3 years.
He deserved it by his stellar play and his fans deserve it by their loyalty to him.
I wish them all a great success in this.
