Knicks · Austin Rivers (page 3)

is melo really that much of a huge problem for the knicks or is that once again point guard play is not conducive to ball movement ; give up a guy who can still get 30 on any given night for a guy who may be able to get 20 once in a while just cause. the problem is not melo, iso ball and all; have a pg that can get ppl the ball instead of putting his head down and going to the basket with nice speed and supreme tunnel vision and you will see a change get rid of melo and keep rose and itll get worse cause if u think rose is playing for a contract now imagine when when he has seems ti think he has cause he is the very last superstar n the team.
I agree. Things would change with a true playmaking PG. If Melo is the only iso player on the team, it's not a bad thing at all. I would rather get rid of Rose, but i think both are as good as gone.

Honestly, I would rather suck with Melo than with the dynamic duo of Crawford and Rivers. JJ is a player I really like, but he's the expiring contract.

It would be nice to have him but not without getting at least a 1st round pick and another young player with him. I know and understand that Melo isn't worth the kind of haul we'd all like but we need to come out of any Melo trade with assets not just throw ins.

I think Phil and his team have made up their minds about the direction of this team and really trying to get more out of this RICH DRAFT. When you have a 21 and 22 year old set of bigs like KP and Willy the only smart thing is to fully rebuild.
They gave it one more shot with Melo but I think they see the writing on the wall. If they can get a deal this could set up a long term future for the franchise. They simply MUST take every opportunity to see if they can get something done. I don't like seeing the team lose but there's a purpose to rebuilding and this type of big trade and is a path to rebuild the right way.

Iman Shumpert?? I see no Shump in Rivers. Bad comparison.

No big star players are gonna sign with the Knicks in free agency especially after watching how bad this team is this year and they actually have more than enough talent on this team to be winning so our only real choice is to rebuild. The question is do we trade whatever vets we can now and start the rebuild now or go another two years of being a mediocre team and start the rebuild in 2019 when Melo comes off the books? Either way we need to rebuild around KP and some of the other young guys we have. If we rebuild now and trade guys like Melo and Rose then we can actually get some assets to help the rebuild but we won't get anything for Rose after this year cause he's a free agent and if you think Melo isn't worth much now then what do you think he'll be worth next year or the year after?
I'd actually love to see what this team minus Rose and plus a true PG like R.Rubio could do but i think Phil has already made up his mind on trading Melo so if he finds the right team that Melo will actually waive his NTC for then we might as well trade every Veteran player we can and do the rebuild now. I see no reason to trade Melo if Rose isn't getting traded right behind him.

Honestly I think they are going to try and do a fire sale of Lee, Jennings, and KOQ to see if they can get more picks this year. It explains the rumor of why Phil is being so aggressive to move Melo. He needs to do that deal first before he can move the others.
We have our own pick we just need to get younger and maybe have some money to try and steal a RFA. For example while both KCP and/or Porter would be had to steal you never know their teams might blink at paying them 25 mil a year. For the Knicks though a move like that wouldn't be so bad because they need to reach the salary floor anyway. While I agree I doubt a legit star comes here (and history shows we always pay too much when they do). We might as well try and get up & coming stars. Porter and/or KCP are long shots but you never know teams do blink every year. I rather have a chance at them than being stuck in Mediocrity as a treadmill team.
KP gives Phil an option he didn't even have before he signed the NTC with Melo. A player he could legitimately build a team around that has time to develop into a championship caliber team.

the whole thing is i think( just my opinion not fact)that phil doesnt know how to talk directly at ppl and get them to see clearly.
i agree with building around kp6 but trading melo for peanut shells is not the way to go. i think( again my opinion not a fact) there must be teams that would love lee, oquinn, rose, jennings, we can get second round and low first round picks in a very deep draft we can draft a nice player with our pick and use the rest to find more thatcan be developed.
to just get rid of him for getting rid of him sake not a good look.
you cant be seemingly spiteful when dealing with ppl.
ewing said he thought he was better than he was, and regrets how it went down. imagine someone convincing melo he is not the man any more and must come off the bench.
lol last thing wee need is the curse of melo doubled with the curse of ewing lol

My Question is why would Boston do this? Do they get better by getting Love and if they go all in on a win now move why do it in a trade that helps the team their trying to beat get better? It's just weird for Boston to loose picks and players when they do not improve their team well enough to beat the team they are chasing

Bazemore looked great last year too, the fact they fell off after they got paid makes just matching a RFA something that should be considered and not automatically done. Also Washington has a max Beal and will have to give wall that 200 mil max the year after next. Like I know it's far from a reality..... but they could blink. If he hasn't signed an extension the Knicks got to at least see if it could work. It may not but at least they would of tried. Especially when the Wiz have Oubre who is also a sf on a rookie deal already on their program. The owner could look at the money and say "let Otto go". It's happened in the past and will happen again.

I agree he wants picks, but the clips don't even have a pick to compensate Phil for taking Jamal. Which is even more a reason to trade him for either an expiring or a younger player that could be moved somewhere else. I think that is what's holding the deal up.
This team suffers because our point guard isolates every time he has the ball keeps his head down and doesn't get shots for his teammates.
There aren't 10 guys in the league that can get you 24pts without a legislate point guard on their team. Maximize the guys talents and find a competent guard that defends and can move the ball. Doesn't need to be an all star.

Disagree....Rivers is on the come up
