When your boy Melo is not playing ISO heavy ball or is traded you will see players do that. Plus, Holiday isn't as good a scorer as THJ in isolations. It's his defence and outside shooting I prefer over THj.

A general manager makes decisions about whom to keep/cut based on their observed play, not based on some future state of the player. SOmetimes a player gets cut who then goes on to blossom in a different system/team/environment. That has ZERO bearing onn the original decision, it only seems that way with the benefit of hindsight.

The "correctness" of THjr's trade from the Knicks still holds - he sucked...bigly. And just because he had one Jordanesque game doesn't mean he will do that ever again, and certainly not on a regular basis. Heck, Brandon Jennings had many MJ-like games against the Knicks. Does anyone think he's a certain keeper for us long term? Doubt it.

Who would you rather have...Holiday who plays on both sides of the ball, or THJR who sucked on defense like Calderon?

and even better if we trade up in the draft for Giannes who was drafted at 14, using our assets that we used to acquire AB, 1st rounder and 2 2nd rounders

Then there is the Calderon trade,
instead of CleAnthony Early we could have drafted Jovic

had the option of getting Jae Crowder back instead (which was on the table, he did not get consistent minutes and proved his value till he was traded to Boston and signed a cap friendly deal later)
could the Knicks have talked their way to get back Crowder and the early 2nd round pick that could have become Jovic? Possibly as Crowders value was NOT that high and Wesley Matthews was signed to a MAX deal, possibly adding a future 2nd rounder (from us or some good negations on Tyson Chandler/Calderon's swap) if needed should have gotten done

Instead of signing Affalo to a 2year player option deal, at 8m, sign Aminu instead

We need to sign 2way YOUNG STUDS like Anthony Davis and Giannes to go with KP, 2way player that makes players around them better to become LEGIT contenders, that can play on and off the ball as well, create their own shots and create for the team, DEFEND both on and off the ball as a 1v1 lock down defender and a help defender

Anthony Davis has a player option exactly when Noah, Lee, Lance Thomas, all expire (KP will also be eligible for an EXTENTION THE SAME YEAR and WILL GET A MAX EXTENTION in 2020)
While Giannes will be the BEST 2 way player that can play and DEFEND ALL 5 positions, he will be a FA much later though
While Giannes could have a Harden/a Young Lebron role

Maybe John Wall with his shot improving....

if we can get such players then getting 2way 3 and D players would be great

Here is the real math. And you Phil lovers can start the excuses.

1) Phil trades Chandler for Jose to dump his salary, to only sign an injured declining Center from Chicago for 17M two years later. Triangle move.
2) Phil trades THJ for vision of true Triangle PG. Enter Gerian Grant....traded.
3) Phil gets rid of two bad culture guys in Shump and Smith (for zero) but they go on to contribute to winning a chip in spite of their bad traits. We are still looking for a tough defensive Shump replacement.
4) Phil signs the fastest narrow sited PG in the league to fit in slow down offense that is the Triangle.
5) Hires inexperienced coaches that he can tell what to do.
6) has created a professional enviroment in which so many FA will want to flock to. Cuz everyone can't wait to be thrown under bus by GM.
7) Rebuilds in place...3. Out of how many years?
8) Record?

But atleast he hired Gaines, who pushed KP and Willy..yeah!!! What vision.
