Trade off Jennings to a contender for a late 1 or 2 future 2's. He only is 5mm$ and is expiring. He brings high quality depth to a good team with low expense
I'd rather do that with Rose. Rose has super value to a contender especially off the bench. I can't think of a team that couldn't use him
I know you want picks - but I think I'd rather keep him and resign him. now, if I know he is going to ask for too much (e.g., $15M per), then yes, I trade him.
Otherwise, he took a discount to be here - seems to want to be a Knick and is one of the few bright spots on an otherwise dismal year.

I like Jennings and would have agreed with this earlier in the year... I think he's got a great deal now and teams needs back up PGs. I think the Knicks could potentially get multiple picks for him and I'd be interested in that

Yeah, multiple second rounders but definitely not first round picks.
That being said, if we can't find a suitable trade for Melo, blow it up around him, KP and Willy! The goal should be to recoup as many picks (or pick swaps) as possible while incurring as many loses as possible. There is franchise changing talent in this draft and we need to see if we can get at least one because those are rare....the Brandon Jennings' of the world are not....and can be re-acquired this offseason if necessary.

You move Rose and Melo. Those are the ball stoppers and guys that arent playing any defense. Jennings hasnt been great but he's been good, and he gets guys involved and gets them easy shots. That is a huge importance with a young roster.

If Melo is a net negative on the team, why consider moving him during the season? Wouldn't you want him around to help us tank for better draft position?
And as much as I like O'Quinn, I'd move him in a heartbeat if it helps us improve our draft positioning or acquire a first round pick of value. With Willy here, us stuck with Noah, and Marshall Plumlee showing some potential, O'Quinn could get pinched for minutes, which would hamper his value to our team anyway.

No because Melo/Rose drama on a terrible team is toxic and I want to develop my players not hurt them. Draft position will work itself out. It is what it is. If we move them and start playing better with the younger guys that is a positive, not a negative. Just my 2c.
As for KOQ he's a local product who works hard to improve and has a super friendly deal. I would really need to be impressed with the offer. If that is overvaluing him I am ok with that. I also dont see us stuck with Noah at all. He may not be worth the salary we gave him, however if we move from the iso guys to ball movers Noah will be a good player for us. KP/KOQ/Willy/Noah/Plumlee is a good frontcourt moving forward. I am not really looking to improve that group, rather to let it grow.
So move the $$$ ISO guys. If our youth starts to win games and hurts our draft position thats fine. It means our youth is developing and also that our team will be a more attractive FA destination. If they struggle we may be able to add another top 5 level talent next to the group. I just think thats the best way to play it straight

You mean the "Curly Neal" of NBA. Do it in a heart beat. Great call. Can't stand his over handling and inconsistent outside game. Not a pro NBA point guard, IMO.
In the other thread there is a cool chart that shows that KP + BJ is our best combo of players as far as + points. BJ is the only guard in the rotation who sets up his teammates. I definitely wouldn't trade him. Like was said earlier we have Melo and Rose who don't fit within the team concept and who we could get first rounders for. That's who we need to trade.
We can't just say trade melo and Rose? Rose has a 20 mm contract. Not traceable. U can release Rose that's it.melo has the team and city by the cahones. It's going to get ugly and I see melo opening up destinations in the offseason as this gets worse
The trade able assets are oquinn and Jennings. Bottom line you get good assets for them. You do it it's a rebuild and they are take it or leave it players. One a free agent
Rose is a HUGE expiring, isn't that desirable anymore? It's possible that some rules have changed but in the past a 20 million expiring was a pretty hot commodity. And he can still play to boot!

First rounder for Rose without an albatross contract in tow then just let him expire. Just don't trade BJ !!! His value is not high enough to get a good pick and he give us more by actually being on the floor. The only scenario where I could see him traded is if we get a bunch of picks from other trades as well and use them to move up in the draft. Everything else is not worth it imho

the idea is you take back a toxic contract with an asset. Those deals rarely work out well.

So potentially keeping those guys around for 30 more games would result in irrepairable harm to the youth? But playing ourselves out of position to draft a franchise-chasing talent isn't irrepairable? Have we not seen "flash-in-the-pan" surges from young teams that never result in long-term sustainable winning (e.g. the Blazers and Bucks) enough to deter this route? That'd make me skeptical of picking up meaningless wins when we could get a guy that could single-handedly change the trajectory of our team for a decade.

As in match a dollar-for-dollar amount in a trade. It's difficult to find $20 million of contracts that don't disrupt your rotation, while simultaneously generating value for your trade partner. That's why guys like Amar'e Stoudemire, Deron Williams and Joe Johnson have been bought out prematurely despite still having game left to benefit a contender.
