smackeddog wrote:This trade is even WORSE than it seems at first- The Kings (to free up cap space for Rondo) did a deal with the Sixers whereby if their 2017 pick falls in the top 3, Sixers get it! Then why the hell not wait until the offseason before you blow it up?!?!?! So they could end up having essentially trade Cousins AND a top 3 2017 pick for Hield, a mid first rounder (Pelicans pick if they make the playoffs) and trash. Idiots.
cause if the pick was above 10 it would go to the Bulls, so they had to finesse it. And if they KEPT Cousins, they would be almost forced to give him the $200M contact and wouldn't be able to trade him for another full year. Their window was til Feb 23rd.

If they'd stuck with Cousins, they'd probably still have missed the playoffs and kept their pick. I have looked it up a bit further and the Sixers have the right to swap picks (rather than gain the pick out right), so they likely end up with the same pick number as they would have if they kept Cousins. I don't think they would have been forced to give Cousins the extention- would the return honestly have been worse if they'd left it until the the offseason.

you completely ignored what I said about the pick going to the Bulls.
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/26939...Most critically, the Kings are virtually guaranteed to keep their own first-rounder. Under a trade made years ago, by a prior administration, the Kings were set to send their pick to the Chicago Bulls if it fell outside the top 10. As of Sunday, Sacramento was 11th in the draft order.

The Bulls pick is only if its 10 and over- I think with Cousins they likely would have been 7, 8 or 9 by the end of the year. if they really wanted to keep it, just throw a few games (likely it would only have been a few games)

At least it makes us younger and both Rivers and Hill are willing passers and can get to the rim if you play with pace. Not a great deal, but it does start the rebuild. The Clippers 1st rounder is what, 2021? Having an extra 1st rd [ick is always an asset.

They don't but if they didn't they would lose him for nothing. And they just got a #1 2017 pick and #6 pick from last year. And they probably just ensured their own pick does NOT got to the Bulls.
Keep Cousins and either sign him to an ungodly $200M and not be able to trade him for another year, risk losing your 2017 pick. OR keep Cousins and risk losing him for NOTHING cause he bolts (and if it's a sign and trade, you are behind the 8-ball and take back salary at an ungodly rate) and still risk losing your 2017 to the Bulls at current win rate.
Whatever the case, I don't think keeping Love is the smart thing for them to do with him breaking down, ao why not gamble on Cousins? And if you're the Kings, you'd still be able to keep your pick this year and be even better next year when Love gets healthy, which is a better situation than the garbage trade you just made.

Click here to view the TweetYeah, but it's a league where most teams play one big and four wing players. We've seen the Knicks struggle with that. I'm not convinced that AD isn't a 5. I think the Pels may have two best 5s in the league... which is just weird.
I don't know if it'll work, particularly on defense.
The great thing is that they don't always have to play together and on defense Davis can handle the best big and let Cousins guard the worst one.
But against Cleveland, for instance, that'll be Lebron. Against Atlanta, that'll be Millsap, against GSW that'll be Durant, against Boston Jae Crowder... a lot of the league plays small fours.
On the other end...Crowder, Milsap and Lebron will have their hands full trying to guard Either Davis or Cousins....Also, consider who the Pels had to guard those 4's before they had Cousins...Great trade for the Pels
NardDogNation wrote:I don't get this trade for either team and I think both will lead to spectacularly disappointing results. That aside, I'm surprised- like many- that the asking price for DeMarcus was so low. If I ran the Cavs, I most certainly would have ponied up Kevin Love and Tristan Thompson for Cousins and another floor spacer. As constructed, they are not going to beat the Warriors so why not swing for the fences? Cousins' size and versatility would have been a handful for the Warriors' bigs on the defensive end. Then again, Cousins would be toast on that 1-5 pick and roll on defense, which Thompson covered pretty well.Whatever the case, I don't think keeping Love is the smart thing for them to do with him breaking down, ao why not gamble on Cousins? The issue with the Cavs theory is that the Kings aren't going to give up Cousins for a breaking-down Love on a max contract if their plan is to rebuild. the NOLA package they got was better than that.

I'm curious about the pick and I haven't seen anyone mention this. Philly also has the right to swap picks with Sacramento this Summer. If Philly falls out of the top 10 and swaps picks with Sacramento does that pick then end up going to Chicago?

Maybe Boston had an offer but they pulled it when Butler became more of a possibility?

I'm wondering if the deal involved Melo - what I heard Vlade say was he had a better deal, but you would have to talk with an agent to find out why it fell through.
Who else has an NTC?

Supposedly it was Boogie's agent who scuttled the deal. I have a feeling it was Boston? Or the Lakers? But who knows.

so basically said Cousins wouldn't resign with whomever traded for him. That makes sense.
Last year officiating did not like the idea of OKC Thunders Kanter/Adams/Ibaka taking a 3-1 playoff lead over the 73-9 GS Warriors .. Silverman Officiating allowed kicking below the belt
