Knicks · Wow - Rose tried to go AWOL to Chicago again Friday and Knicks stopped him. Just waive this guy. (page 1)

Rose never took a flight to Chicago, but whether he was grounded by the Knicks is up in the air — pun intended.

Rose attended Saturday’s morning shootaround before the Knicks faced the 76ers at the Garden. On Friday, Rose twice told reporters he had to hurry up the interviews because he had a flight to catch. He added it was to Chicago.

Knicks officials responded later, saying Rose was joking.

Before the Sixers game, Rose, asked to clarify, didn’t sound playful.

“I don’t even want to talk about that, bro,’’ Rose said. “I’m here. I wasn’t trolling either, bro.”

Have you ever seen it so clear a guy doesn't want to be here??

Can we please just cut this guy?

I was at the Knicks/Sixers tonight and Rose was taken out of the game towards the end of the 1st quarter and swore angrily and went back to the lockerroom. He came back out later and sat down to stretch at the end of the bench. Don't know what it was about, but he has terrible body language on and around the bench.

He does not want to be here.

Great job by Phil to completely screw up the Rubio trade.

Berman was talking about him possibly going awol the other day. He wanted to cut an interview short because he was going to catch a flight to Chicago. But Berman was the only guy that wrote about it and it was speculation on his part.

If the Knicks are making all moves now based on developing KP and making it his team the Rubio deal needed to happen. Ian Begley was a guest on Locked On Knicks yesterday and said that the Knicks wanted another asset to come in the deal with Rubio. He said that in the end he heard that the Knicks offered Rose for Rubio straight up. He said he wasn't sure why Thibs balked. He said that he had heard some speculation that the Wolves were concerned with how much Rose was going to seek to resign with them.

I believe all that about the Rubio trade - the translation is that Phil blew it by trying to get another asset. The Wolves would've pulled the trigger earlier in the week.

How is Berman speculating if ROSE says he has to cut short an interview to make a flight to Chicago and then when Berman follows up the next day to ask if he was serious, Rose says "I wasn't trolling."

I was at the game tonight. Rose's body language is horrible. He does not want to be on this team.

Would the return be better than the cap room we'd get just by letting him go? I sort of doubt it.

Also, Rose is completely delusional about the contract he'll get. I can pretty much guarantee he thinks he's getting over $100M.

TripleThreat @ 2/26/2017 2:05 AM
He's attempting to get the Knicks to just waive him, so he can collect his full salary and go play for a contender, like the Cavs.

I think the Knicks should waive him, just after the deadline where a player is eligible for the playoffs. If Rose had been a good soldier this year, I think you do that for him, let him play for a contender, but since he has been a complete douchebag, I think you cut him and not let him play for a contender.

Jerry Jones and Tony Romo, as it is being rumored, have a handshake deal where if it turns out the Cowboys can trade him, they will do so to a team he wants to go to, even within the same division, as Romo has been a good soldier for them and Jones has always been good to his players.

You do your job, odds are if the franchise can lean your way a little, they often do. Be a jerk, well, you get what you deserve.

Funny, there was an article yesterday about how Rose wanted to stay long term with the Knicks. Didn't read it, so may have been agent trying to cover for Rose.

Nope, I think Knicks intend to do the melo to Clips trade in the offseason- it makes no sense to have Rivers AND Rubio (especially when one is making $10mil the other $13mil) especially when you plan on drafting a PG. Likely that was why Phil would only do the deal with another asset- we'd be taking on 3 years worth of salary, for something that wasn't necessary- that's space that could be used to take on salary for a pick or asset (which is why he wanted an asset in this trade)

I don't know his agent made a big statement how Rose wants to re-sign in NY
If I had to guess he is not happy with how the season has gone down and doesn't seem to get along with Horny.

I don't think it is not about being a Knick.
Think he likes being a New Yorker and a Knick.

The dude does need to go, but I don't think this is something big.

I thought the effort of Rose yesterday was good. His attitude has been bad all season nothing new. He sending like a guy who still wants to be a MVP but can't play like that and it frustrates him.

Even if Melo to the Clips wasn't in the plan. I don't see the knock on looking to acquire another asset in the Rubio trade even if it made the deal fall through. Knicks would be adding 7mil more in total salary and an extra year on the cap. Minny has a worse record then NY with Rubio supported by guys like Towns, Wiggins, Lavine(pre-injury), Deing, Muhammad. There is a good possibility that Rubio can come here and his flaws become exposed like Calderon and Rose before him. Yet we would be stuck with more salary and an extra year.

Phil has set the tone, either we are getting future assets back or no deal. No lateral deals with downside attached to it.

I guess the difference is thinking it would be a lateral move. I think Rubio would be a massive upgrade over Rose.

I agree I was somewhat hesitant about the extra years, though his salary at $13.5M is very reasonable in today's cap.

I just think we should not sign Rose and Rubio is better than a PG we can get in the off-season. Starting July 1 would you rather have Rubio for 2yr $27M or Rose for 3yr $75M (basically the Dwight Howard deal)? I'd definitely say Rubio at that point.

Melo to the Clips can't really be the plan - it's certainly an option, but it depends on a ton of variables. People here were acting like it'd definitely happen at the trade deadline this year and it seems like it never really even got that close. I don't think we can depend on a Melo trade until it happens. Not doing for Rose for Rubio because you think you might have Austin Rivers this summer doesn't really make sense. Also, all indications are that Phil would have done the deal if he got Bjelica - who seems to be in the Kuz mold anyway. So all that logic doesn't really work if Phil was willing to throw it all out the window if the Wolves included Bjelica. Also, it doesn't work because Phil blinked and 5min to the deadline tried to get just Rose for Rubio done.

Anyway - I was curious about how Rose would do here. I was rooting for him. But it was a straight up disaster. I would try to cut ties as soon as possible and I cannot believe that Phil had the chance to get him off the team for a guy who would actually be an upgrade and didn't do it.

Bjelica is considered a 2nd asset that could be apart of the team long term or maybe developed and moved for another piece later. With or without Rubio we are probably gonna be a lottery team next year as well unless we strike absolute gold in the draft.

Phil willing to do the deal but Minny balking we don't know if true or not. What we do know is that the deal wasn't made because Phil wanted a 2nd asset. If that's not true then the only other conclusion is that the deal wasn't made because Minny wanted Rose and another asset themselves. For all we know Minny was never serious and were using the Knicks to drive up the price on another team.

Also, Rose is completely delusional about the contract he'll get. I can pretty much guarantee he thinks he's getting over $100M.

maybe thats why he passed on Rubio.. the plan is to just let him expire and keep the cap clean. I may be temped to add no salary at all, stay $25mm or so under the cap, sign my draft picks, bring in a couple more guys like Plumlee and Baker to compete with those guys for the end of the roster and just stay flexible. Feature Willy/KP. I am very curious to see if KOQ takes another step forward as he is a guy I would look to lock up. He could be an Anthony Mason type... shot blocker, good passer, can play 4-5, will fill out the stat sheet and a perfect first big off the bench. Has good range on his jumper... may become a good stretch guy as he looks good knocking down that long uncontested 2.

Just let Rose walk unless there is some clearly beneficial reason to do a S&T. Try to get an impact player in the draft. There will be something good available at 8-10 if the worst happens.. stay flexible and by being under the cap we would have a great option to take advantage of another team's firesale and get talent for 50c on the dollar. If not we just keep developing the talent. If we are winning games its with our future base. If we are losing games we add more talent in the draft.

sealy @ 2/26/2017 10:09 AM
If Thibs balking is true, I'm curious if his thinking is that him, knowing Rose better than any other coach in the league, will drive down Rose's value when he becomes a FA this summer.

They'd still have to gamble that he signs with another team, but after his unstable behavior and knowing that Thibs may possibly have had reservations he isn't going to be getting a whole lot from anyone this summer. And he shouldn't.

There's a cap floor - they have to get to 90% of the cap, so about $91M total.

To my mind adding Rubio was such a no brainer for how he fits Hornacek's vision of moving the ball from the PG.

Passing on Rubio may be the most idiotic thing I've seen Phil do (which is really saying something!) - since his main complaint is this team doesn't move the ball.

Phil harps all year that the team doesn't move the ball enough and bungled an easy chance to ditch Rose for Rubio - a massive upgrade for the style of play he's talking about. Just unbelievable.

crzymdups @ 2/26/2017 10:12 AM
Somehow Phil holds Melo accountable for the ball movement on the team and has never once mentioned Rose, the point guard he traded for. Ball movement starts with the PG. When we had Kidd here, the ball flew around the court til it found the open man. Passing is contagious and Rose doesn't do it. Rubio does. Massive failure by Phil to not see this and jump at it.

That's one way of thinking but most reports are that the knicks did not pass on Rubio. So they wanted him but lost the battle of chicken. It would have been nice to see the young bigs play with a defensive guard so they would not have any excuses(besides Rambis) in their development. The knicks could have brought in Rubio and then went cheap for his back up. Let's not forget that it is not a certainty that the knicks are able to draft a top quality pg.

Also, even if KoQ takes that another step he plays himself out of his value because he is unlikely to improve to the point that it makes since to keep him on a rebuilding team at his age at the new price he will command when he opts out next summer. Plus I have doubts about KOQ keeping his weight down when he gets his money and I am not sure about his athleticism as he ages.

When we had Kidd here, the ball flew around the court til it found the open man. Passing is contagious and Rose doesn't do it. Rubio does. Massive failure by Phil to not see this and jump at it.

Please STOP! You think Phil doesn't see something that's obvious to all??? I mean this is Phil Jackson who made his career on sacrifice for the team and playing team ball. There's more to the story than Phil just dropping the ball as you're assuming. There's nothing that you're seeing that Phil is somehow oblivious to.
