I don't understand this move. Jennings was not the main problem of this team. He had a reasonnable contract, he tried on defense and was proud about being a knick.
Rose has a bloated contract, doesn't try on defense and try to go awol when he feels like it.
I would have cut ndour before Jennings honestly.

matt @ 2/27/2017 8:38 AM
There has to be something behind the scenes that Woj will inform everyone about shortly. I'm betting Jennings asked to be cut - why would he wanna stay here?
GoNyGoNyGo @ 2/27/2017 8:41 AM
i was thinking the same thing.

When he leaves he will spill the beans on what is really going on here too. The whole twitter thing was a reaction to something.

I guess Phil is doing him a favor so he can catch on with a playoff team.

Good attitude in his time here. Always tried to make winning plays.

newyorknewyork @ 2/27/2017 8:43 AM
Wow, This is clearly a sign of tanking. Most likely they agreed to part ways so Jennings can sign with a contender.
shinmen @ 2/27/2017 8:44 AM
Yeah according to the article, he asked to go to a playoff team. I read it too quickly, the knicks seem like they have not screwed him, on the contrary. This is a reasonnable decision. He would have not signed next year it seems.
corvetteknick @ 2/27/2017 8:44 AM
Have to figure it was a move that either requested, the Knicks chose to do in order to give him a shot to play on a real team. It makes no sense from a talent standpoint - especially compared to the lazy, unprofessional Rose. And keeping Sasha over Jennings is just as curious.
nixluva @ 2/27/2017 8:47 AM
I'm surprised at this but I think Phil did this partly as a favor to BJ. Whatever the reason It seems to also indicate that the Plan is to get younger. If he intended to resign BJ this wouldn't happen.
Bonn1997 @ 2/27/2017 8:48 AM
We couldn't have even gotten a 2nd round pick for him in a trade?
yellowboy90 @ 2/27/2017 8:52 AM
Why is sasha still in NY.

Obviously not! I do think he tried to get something for him. Chasson is a player they already liked so it is kind of like a 2nd rounder.

yellowboy90 @ 2/27/2017 8:57 AM
I find it funny this request came after Jeff said they are recommitting themselves to the triangle. Why not cut him right after the deadline like D.Will and others?

via SBondyNYDN
Stefan Bondy: Knicks are waiving Brandon Jennings a day after Charley Rosen called him a “profound disappointment” who “resists the triangle.”

Well I guess that makes sense. Never disrespect the triangle

Paris907 @ 2/27/2017 8:58 AM
Sure BJ wanted to play for a playoff team so Phil accoodated. Doesn't everyone? This is Phil speak to Rose as well and Melo that he will be playing Baker some and if Randle comes on board he'll get minutes too. I thought Phil was smart about Rubio. Didn't want to pick up thatcontract unless ithadextra value with a 2 for 1. Yet the message was again directly to Melo. Wanna play with Rubio or Chris Paul.
I'm glad Melo is scoring more. Maybe his stock splits and we get a first rounder and rotation player in the off season.
nyknickzingis @ 2/27/2017 9:00 AM
I know we aren't in the playoff picture
But the goal of the team is to be in the playoffs
So Jennings clearly quit on that goal which is still the teams goal.

I said the same thing that there's something else behind this that we might not ever even find out what that is cause when you have guys like Sasha and N'Dour sitting on the bench why the hellz would you cut one of the few guys that are actually playing well and actually trying.

corvetteknick @ 2/27/2017 9:02 AM
So the goal really is not to make a playoff push after all? I'm good with that - would prefer as high a lottery pikc as possible, but now they can do away with the BS talk about acting like they are still in it.

Deron Williams and Calderon were both waived as well prior to this. I don't see teams willing to shell out picks even 2nd rounders for these type of players.

fitzfarm @ 2/27/2017 9:08 AM
Jennings really disappointed me this year... his shot disappeared, defensive liability, he only turns it on when he feels like it.

This is a great move, esp with Ron baker ready to take over as the back up pg. baker is the perfect triangle pg, a lockdown defender, high IQ player who always makes the right passes and can hit the open jumper.

Ron baker is to big to play small minutes

infuriating... the Knicks couldn't even get a 2nd rounder in 2025? WTF

lol, was thinking the same.. taking bitch to a whole new level.

i think there has to be more to this though... jennings earlier this year tweeted several times bashing the flow of the team offensively. seemed like direct shots at melo and rose. i happened to agree with him, but im sure it didn't go over well.

Why would Phil care about that. However, if he didn't like the triangle...

WaltLongmire @ 2/27/2017 9:19 AM
As some have stated...surprised we couldn't get a #2 for Jennings, which seemed to be his trade value.

Also think that it might have been an agreed upon release so Jennings can be picked up by a possible playoff bound team. Sounds like Jose Calderon is going to be picked up by GS...don't see why Jennings' style might not be liked by certain teams.

Never a fan of his in the past, but I liked the effort he gave the team and he had some good moments. I had no issues with him being a backup PG and he came at a reasonable cost.Like his attitude.

If the Triangle is the issue...Baker is a better fit for that offense, IMO.

As for Sasha still being on the team- he is the guy that knows the Triangle better than anyone...this might tell us why he is still on the team, even though I have not seen us run the offense too often this year...not like last year, and especially 2 years ago.
