Knicks · Jennings cut (page 2)

As some have stated...surprised we couldn't get a #2 for Jennings, which seemed to be his trade value.

Also think that it might have been an agreed upon release so Jennings can be picked up by a possible playoff bound team. Sounds like Jose Calderon is going to be picked up by GS...don't see why Jennings' style might not be liked by certain teams.

Never a fan of his in the past, but I liked the effort he gave the team and he had some good moments. I had no issues with him being a backup PG and he came at a reasonable cost.Like his attitude.

If the Triangle is the issue...Baker is a better fit for that offense, IMO.

As for Sasha still being on the team- he is the guy that knows the Triangle better than anyone...this might tell us why he is still on the team, even though I have not seen us run the offense too often this year...not like last year, and especially 2 years ago.

Yes - a #2 for an expiring $5M (cheap) contract should have been an easy get. It's why Phil just isn't cut out for this job. A GM would know how to pull a #2 here, a #2 there.

callmened @ 2/27/2017 9:27 AM
cutting bjennings is surely a sign of tanking because he won so many games for us.

infuriating... the Knicks couldn't even get a 2nd rounder in 2025? WTF

lol, was thinking the same.. taking bitch to a whole new level.

i think there has to be more to this though... jennings earlier this year tweeted several times bashing the flow of the team offensively. seemed like direct shots at melo and rose. i happened to agree with him, but im sure it didn't go over well.

Why would Phil care about that. However, if he didn't like the triangle...

Actually Charlie Rosen Phil Jackson has been a colossal disapppointmnet. He couldve signed Seth Curry who wouldve been 10 times better but Phil doesnt have the eye yet. Of course taking a gun slinging PG will meet the expectations of a formulated offense:(

Not going after Seth Curry doesn't mean Phil has no eye! You could go on and on regarding many players we did get or didn't and make an argument for or against. This is simply not a cut and dry deal. BJ was LOW RISK. His money comes off as does Rose's. There's a long term vision here with regard to KP and Willy.

Obviously not! I do think he tried to get something for him. Chasson is a player they already liked so it is kind of like a 2nd rounder.

Deron Williams and Calderon were both waived as well prior to this. I don't see teams willing to shell out picks even 2nd rounders for these type of players.

Only Phil is stupid for not getting a second round pick. The other teams get a pass. Why? Phil's sack is magically delicious

By Charley Rosen...that’s why, starting on July 1, Phil Jackson will have his phone stuck to his ear and lots of under-the-cap money to spend.

Not getting a 2nd rounder for Jennings is no big deal, especially since they are relatively cheap to purchase I believe. The upside is getting Randle and not ruining a relationship with Jennings agent. We are releasing Jennings and can find his deal with a legit playoff contender.

Right....unless you are trading with a team that has cap space...and most teams don't, and if they do they are not playoff teams....you also have to take back $$....which the knicks probably dont want. As noted...couple of serviceable PGs waived just like Jennings.

NYKBocker @ 2/27/2017 9:54 AM
What team would give a 2nd rounder for Jennings who is a half a season rental? Almost every team already has a player of his caliber in their team.

Doesn't mean there isn't a long term vision. There are options with the Draft and Free Agency. I'm not sure how any of this is a bad thing.

Well, let's see - Bogut makes $12M this year (played 26 games btw) Williams makes $10M this year, and Jennings makes $5M. You do know that it easier for a team looking to take on player to deal for a guy making $5M rather than $12M or $10M? Not all expiring contracts are created equal, but maybe that is something you overlooked. Learn some math skills.

And finally - why would the Knicks pass on an opportunity to audition Jennings the rest of the year, seeing that the chances of them re-signing Rose are like zero? Bogut is not staying Philly after this year, Deron is on his last legs and is all about getting a ring. Comparing the Jennings situation to Williams and Bogut is short-sighted and lazy. Jennings actually had a chance to show something these last 23 or so games.

If Jennings is a colassal disappointment, what the hell is Rose? And Melo and the team and Kurt Rambis! And Phil! Three friggin years and they are no closer to whatever they are trying to become.

If he was let go as a favor, ok.

But if the triangle is costing us players with talent who want to be here, then that is BS and my days of being a fan are numbered.

Because they make too much money. Jennings has a very trade friendly contract.

But seriously, how does Jennings get cut and Rose does not. This team is a mess. I also see Phil is giving Rambis more power to coach the Triangle in practice again. So Rambis coaches the offense and the defense... and we're terrible. I'm shocked.

We're going to be a disaster as long as they try to install the Triangle, so as long as Phil is here. Hopefully they at least draft well.

Scroll up and read what Andrew said about math.... as in salary cap. Like teams over the Cap can't trade second round picks for players... and why would a team under the cap trade a second round pick for Jennings? They typically would be non playoff teams. Go back to school you nutterbutter.

I think Rose still has a little value if kept until the off-season. Possible sign and trade with a team that has not enough cap space to sign him outright.

The only point of this season was to see if the team could make the playoffs and continue to develop the younger players. This was never about competing for an NBA Title this year. The other side of this was that if it didn't work they would regain Cap Space and look for talent in the draft. What they're trying to become is a good team and that process is still going on.

The bad part of the process has been trying to be relevant right now with Melo. The attempts to put some vet talent around Melo have mostly failed and I think they don't want to talk about Rose at this point. Rose is a different case from BJ. There really wasn't any future with BJ and no trade value obviously.

I don't think the Triangle is costing us any players. If this team was better defensively no one would be talking about the Triangle. The Knicks actually score enough points tho I think they can be much more efficient and smoother offensively. The issue is mostly about a lack of defense.

Knixkik @ 2/27/2017 10:08 AM
Wish we cut Rose instead, but it is what it is.
