Is this Phil throwing espn a bone so they can get off our backs like a poster mentioned here the other day?
Anyway, I'm not a fan of Jrue....he can play, just seems slow to me
fishmike@ 2/28/2017 11:01 AM
He's really good. Has health issues and not likely worth the money it would take to get him here.

maybe he signs on for cheap with the chance of playing with his brother

I was just talking with my sons about the Knicks going after Jrue. It seems to be the most logical move this summer and i'm sure he'd like being on the same team with his brother. This might give the Knicks an edge.

they are both FAs

Perpare to overpay.
I understand with the cap going up this in unavoidable, but I cannot see handing out +$100 mill contract to a guy that had that many injuries. I say draft pg and bring in someone that can take the reins for 2-3 years and that you will not have to overpay on or their contract runs only for that period.
Jrue would this year's Courtney Lee in terms of fit....nice piece on a win now team, but when dipping one toe in rebuilding and one toe win now with Melo, probably an ill fit.

Not going to put stock in FA rumors until after the draft. We were targeting Greg Monroe until we drafted KP.
This rumor has been out there for a while - that Phil liked Jrue Holiday.
I'd be interested. Though it'll really depend on how things go in New Orleans, I think. So far they've struggled trying to get two all-star high volume shooting big men to mesh. I sort of question whether it is possible for that to work in today's game.
I think there's a chance Boogie could scare off Jrue... we'll see. I think there's an equal chance the Knicks could scare off Jrue and Justin...
newyorker4ever@ 2/28/2017 11:34 AM
I wouldn't mind signing Jrue and then doing this in the draft.

God I hope not. Would just be another player in a long line of overrated FA that come to NY and get exposed.

Pelicans will give him a max contract to stay
SkyWalker@ 2/28/2017 1:36 PM
Why in the world woukd he even want to play here? Unless the knicks overpay everyone else AND overpay for his bro.
ESOMKnicks@ 2/28/2017 1:42 PM
A pointless sideways move. The Pelicans' record is even worse than ours, so how will getting him instead of what we have right now make us better?
He is pretty close to Teague stats-wise, but Teague's teams win a lot, while Jrue's lose a lot.
Paris907@ 2/28/2017 1:46 PM
We haven't had a duesome in the backcourt in Ages. I don't know Jrue's game yet is draft Fox if he's available 6-10 as I see him as being gifted, a facilitator and a scorer from pg. he's a blur. Now if Jrue shoots a high % from 2 and 3 it matters. Along with LEE ITS A backcourt rotation. Better than Grant or Jennings or Rose other make believes we've seen the past few years. Let Randle and Baker round it out. With a 4 and 5 in Place in Willy and KP All that's needed is a two way superstar sf. His name ain't Melo.

I wouldn't call him slow, but deliberate. He's guy that has learned to use his advantages on the offensive end. He's not a Derrick Rose, John Wall speedster type. More like Derrick Harper back in the day. But I wonder about his defense. People rave about it, but most of the advanced stats don't really back it up. Keep in mind the guys he plays against in the West, tho.
yellowboy90@ 2/28/2017 3:25 PM
JRUEwould be great for the long term future of the knicks. smh If this happen it would be another failure in FA signings by Phil. He can't be that bad of a President to go after the Holiday. I don't like what he has been doing but even I can't see him doing something this terrible. Even going after him and not getting him would be a bad move.

Every advanced stat I could find backs up the idea that he's one of the best defensive point guards in the league.
I think age and ability-wise this is probably a player I'd offer the max to. Yeah, health issues but he is only 26.

But we did go after Monroe hard Monroe went to Milwaukee because they were a better team

I rather draft Frank Ntilikina and look for a veteran point guard in free agency who is happy playing a mentor role to Frank, Ron and Chasson. Maybe Pat Mills from San Antonio.
Assuming we don't draft top 6
Maybe get Frank at 8 or lower Sign Mills for 8-10 $M a year Keep Baker and Randle Sign a defensive wing like PJ Tucker Re-sign Holiday if money is right
