Assumption is the mother of all f' ups my friend. Despite the fact that Porzingis is inconsistent, he's still an up and coming star. So you're assuming the picks will be worth while, which is very dangerous. You're also assuming things won't be better in 3 whole years. By then, Melo should be gone, whatever young guys we have will be much further developed (including KP) and the current stench of this crap show of a season should be far gone. Plus, Jax may be gone by then anyway.
Trading KP for picks makes zero sense.
And free agents don't go to where the picks and young developing players are. They go to the already great
Teams or where the STARS are. KP has a chance to be a shining star and it's him that we are using the lire free agents, hopefully sooner than later.... And you want to trade him for picks?
We can re-sign KP for almost $200M over 5yr. Most he can get from other teams is more like $100M over 4yr. We'd have to screw up pretty bad to lose him.

KP right now lacks the strength to dominate as he gets pushed around too much. In 3 years after his body has matured and he has gained 15-20 pounds, KP will be a top-5 player in this league. Give him time.

How do you know for sure KP will never be a Superstar? You likely would've said the same thing about Dirk at the same age or Nash. It's very hard to say what KP's Ceiling is because he's still not Physically mature yet. KP will continue to fill out and get stronger.
He doesn't really have any limitations talent wise. He can do it all if he works on his weaknesses and further develops his post game and go to moves. He could be unstoppable if he develops a hook shot.

I don't think it's a stretch that we'll be dysfunctional 3 years from now. Next year is guaranteed. We'll spend the next 2 years overhauling the roster and firing the coach when it doesn't bring immediate results. You think Rambis is about to turn the corner as a coach? Whatever GM comes in next is going to be under pressure to turn things around quickly. That means signing more Bulls castoffs to big contracts.(No decent GM is going to come here)
While Jax is here, Our D is still going to be atrocious because we have bad defenders who are just going to be practicing against the triangle which noone else uses. KP is being misused and that is hurting his development. He's a smart kid. He knows if he wants to maximize his potential he has got to get out of this basketball purgatory. He's going to be very good, but just not here. Right now this team is only for players on the decline who want to get one last big paycheck. We run and will continue to run a bad system, have horrible morale and chemistry from front office down.

Agreed. The maybe the trade would have to be immediately after the lottery. Securing one high pick and another #1 the next season.
Having a great young group taking up no cap space and being able to sign 2 max players at once would be the goal.

Trade KP is not even short sighted, its plain ignorant. Not everyone can be as fortunate as Chicago was when we got EDDY and GOT WORSE, which enabled them to obtain the picks that became aldridge and Noah, or Celtics which gave them the wonderful pick they have of brooklyns this year.
If you trade KP, you might make the team better.
Of course, you could get a huge haul from Boston. Is there anyone in this years draft you want over KP? Granted, potential is very conceptual. There is no Lebron to pick. If so BTW, Boston would not move the pick.
Celtics are not assured even of the top pick. They have the highest odds, thats it of Brooklyn is the worst team.
There is a lot of things to happen before we label KP as a flight risk. Reading an article is not one of them.
So the plan is to trade KP for future picks? Most likely, those picks don't turn into a prospect as good as KP. Then we're screwed again. But what happens if they do turn into another player like KP? Then we will see people here saying to trade that player for future picks? Because having a young star apparently isn't a good thing. Future picks is more enticing apparently. So every time we get lucky enough to draft a good player, we should just trade them for future draft picks, and continue to this cycle. Sounds like a lot of fun, and this is why people make fun of Knicks fans.

LOL poor man's Love. He's arguable more impactful than Love right now at 21 years old, when you factor in rim protecting. I am losing brain cells reading this thread.
Typical impatient Knicks fan talk. Most Knicks fans realize how it's too early to be talking about trading KP. He's not Okafor! KP is not close to fully mature yet. What we do know is he can protect the rim at a top level and he's getting better offensively.
The key is getting the guard and wing help he needs around him to make this a good team.

It's probably a gamble I would take but if you trade him for two high 1st round picks, you're getting 8 seasons of guys on rookie contracts rather than KP's 2 seasons.

Trading KP is crazy..KP will most likely be a good player for a long time...Just finding the right role given his defensive short comings will be key in building a ball club...I wouldn't bring in future players "just" to surround KP..I would look for players with talents in their own right...KP can be a good piece when he gets stronger...Being able to hold your ground and create space as a big will be key to being a force in this league..This situation is similar to the early Camby years minus the injuries...
