Knicks · I wrote a post about keeping Melo(like we have much choice?) (page 1)
OK back to Melo--we CANNOT go into next year with this same sht. I DO NOT blame Carmelo or Rose. They can be put into roles that can give a team a nice boost. For this team--we CANNOT keep both--so Rose has to be jettisoned. Really for the good of the team we should do what Pheonix does and sit Carmelo and Rose for Ndour Randle Plumlee and Baker.
To Carmelo--IF he will NOT accept a trade to any destination--someone HAS to say Carmelo--you will be 6th or 7th man and you're role will be down to 20-24 minutes next year of the bench and its not changing. We have to change the culture of this team and if he will not accept a trade--we can mandate a reduced role. He may not like that--and of course it will HURT his chances in the next contract round. But we cannot be prisoner to this anymore. Hes out of the starting line up.

I do worry that Phil's needling has increased Melo's resolve to stay. Without any question, this is 100% what we must do if we can't trade Melo. I like him as a person and player, but his game doesn't mesh with the Knicks current roster or future plans. He got what he wanted (i.e., $$$ and NYC) so he will either live with it, or make a smart decision to waive the NTC if we can work something out to a destination he can stomach.

Either we rebuild or we don't. We get young players we slot them in. If we do a good job--we can have salary cap balance and an influx of higher end talent. This is NOT changing in one year.

whether he starts or comes off the bench, doesn't matter unless we can give him a role he can accept.
Not sure that exists in the triangle.
Does Phil have the balls to tall him to stay home?

No Im talking next season--guys we draft especially rd 1 should be slotted in. Ndour--I agree with you but who cares--give him a chance over the last 15.

Nah--we cant just say trade him because of the NTC. I know hes Dolans wet dream--but he has not worked out here. Either Melo ACCEPTS a trade to what is MOST beneficial to the KNicks OR he will be slotted as 6th or 7th man--which is what is MOST beneficial to the franchise going 4 ward. Its NOT Melos KNicks anymore--it has to be whats BEST for the team. If he strong arms the Knicks--than he plays 20 minutes. If he doesnt like that--he can either accept a trade or stay home and collect 0.
BRIGGS wrote:The deal Phil gave him is almost impossible to trade. He has a huge trade kicker in addition to his ntc. He does have the right to choose where he will accept a trade. Phil gave him that. I don't think he has to come off the bench if he chooses to stay. I do agree with limiting his minutes. Where he plays next year is up to Melo. Phil negotiated that in his deal. I think it is 50:50 as to who stays Phil or Melo.fishmike wrote:If Melo's here with a NTC its his locker room. What an epic fail for the org that would be. Its just not feasible. We need to move him. The question is do you take pennies on the dollar like Austin Rivers or do you risk having this guy around while you work on a good deal? I mean you just have to talk to the Lakers, Clippers, maybe the Bulls and Celtics... be transparent. Tell Melo your draft focused, will prob trade vets for picks and are in a full rebuild mode. If he wants to stay its under the condition he will expected to be facilitator and defer to KP. Prob best you can do.fishmike wrote:If Melo's here with a NTC its his locker room. The Lakers could be interesting if Melo is intrigued by the changes there. Moz and one of their young players or this years pick would get it done. Melo would need a commitment from Jeanie that Phil isn't allowed to come back.

Melo n Horn has been doing a great job at tanking this season!
Phil doesn't have to do any heavy lifting this summer and he's gonna add more young talent to this roster. Phil has 2 first rd quality young players in KP and Willy already and the chance to add at least one more this summer maybe more if we're lucky. How do you NOT go in that direction as a Prez/GM???
Melo has to see this already.

I think we either trade him or we tell him to stay home. Melo in the lockerroom = team cancer
Look at this season, badketball was clear third in importance to Melo and Phil taking shots at each other thru the media and then to trade Melo talks. This is what is wrong with career losers whether they are HOF or not. Get his ass outta here.
Chances of this happening, very slim. So I am prepared for another coach, more bad signings, more "win now", more sulking 23 games into the season, more blaming everybody and their mother to deflect lame from Melo, more 30 win seasons. Its the life of a Knicks fan.
