Its a complete joke...

These things are a domino effect of losing of course. For example, Hornacek wouldn't have been this low during the 48 win season in phoenix. And it's not like he's a worse coach today. Also, Cleveland has pretty much struggled in all areas outside of Lebron returning. And i doubt they had any impact on his decision. He was coming home regardless. He has made them look great on what would otherwise be a bad situation without him.

The domino effect was Phil taking over. The Knicks dropped 20 games in a year and they were one year removed from winning 54.

why do you keep bringing up the 54 win year as if it had some value on other years? I don't get that

Because to go from 54 to 17 in two years you have to mess up pretty badly. Phil has put together a roster that he thought would be competitive every year he has been in NY.

I'd agree with this but Phil is still just a symptom of problems that predated him by like a decade. The 54 win team was clearly an anomaly with this franchise. (And if 54 wins, 2nd round playoffs is your best season in 17 years, it's a sign of a terribly dysfunctional organization.)

Phil is the only front office staffer who had full autonomy. The only predated mess he had to deal with was picks. His main problem is roster construction and probably not using the advance analytical stats that are at his disposal. His main problem was identifying Melo as a 3 and not a 4 when the stats showed he was at his best in a small ball line up. You can not build a good team around any player slotted in the wrong hole.

I don't disagree but having a team owner who picks terrible GMs is a problem that predated Phil by a decade or more.

Dolan dismantles the FO every few years and then picks other bad executives. 54 was an anomaly because it happened once in about 15 years.

I would have been a proponent of not including bad contracts in trades with your good assets. So I would have probably cut J.R. Smith and Felton or maybe just Felton and see if I could work with Smith one more time similar to how the Lakers worked with Nick Young.

Impossible to know but Isiah has failed at a lot of things post-playing. I doubt Dolan really made 100% of the decisions with any of them.

Okay. Take the 54 win season out. That is fair but do you think Phil got good value in any of the trades that you mentioned? Also, what has Phil done intentionally that has ended up improving the Knicks since he took over? Getting the pick that became Willy was a great move. Ending up at the 4 spot wasn't his intention but it worked out well. The Grant trade looked good at the time. Signing Rolo was good but trading him was a mistake if you are building around KP. I am sure there are a few others but I can't think of any.

why do you keep bringing up the 54 win year as if it had some value on other years? I don't get that

Because to go from 54 to 17 in two years you have to mess up pretty badly. Phil has put together a roster that he thought would be competitive every year he has been in NY.

Phil had nothing to do with JKidd retiring, Sheed retiring, KT getting old, Marcus Camby moving on, Ronnie Brewer forgetting how to shoot. Didn't have anything to do with the Bargnani trade.

That was 54 wins to 37. Phil is responsible for 37 to 17.

So again. Why do you keep bringing in something that has ZERO to do with Phil? The 54 season was a flash in the pan UNLESS you think it was a good idea to bring back the core of that team, and that certainly started with Kidd.

Also, are you a proponent of building on top of JRSmith, gun-toting Felton, Flu Chandler, Shumpert and the rest of the 37 win team? If you are, say it. Bring back those guys and fight for 40+ wins and let us know how that is a good plan.

You forgot about Shump being hurt and JR having a horrible start as well as issues. But yes 37 to 17. Still would take that team over what we have now. THJ, Shumpert, Shved, Early, Aldrich, Acy, experienced somewhat young players. We have a field of dreams. Oh yeah, I forgot, KP. who is definately a plus but we can argue he is going to be out of position, on many nights, has low assist numbers and favors a soft outside game. Yes he can improve, and I think he will, but it is yet to be seen. Every other guy on the team seems to have a back up player ceiling at best.

But that doesn't fit with the agenda quite as well. Every time I read 54 wins these days I just stop reading. People are going to post complete made up garbage to push their agenda.

Your right, lets just focus on Phil's record. Which I am sure you will say was intentional.

What do you think the problem is Meloshouldgo? Do you think there is only one problem with this team?

Here's a hint: MELO SHOULD GO
Let's start with that, and we'll figure out the rest as we go
