Knicks · Ron Baker getting 40 minutes against Miami (page 1)

EnySpree @ 3/30/2017 10:07 AM
Ridiculous...

I know we're not trying to win, but come on now. Randle had a more impactful game in 21 minutes than Ron did in 40.

BRIGGS @ 3/30/2017 10:13 AM
Ron is the man for the last 7 games. He's 24 and they have a contract on him next year. He's got to show something right now because it's unlikely he will improve from here
Swishfm3 @ 3/30/2017 10:23 AM
They are both bums and will be out of the league by next year

Box score or intangables? Rose was out, someone gets the minutes. Ron has earned his opportunity and has been here.
Also, were they running the triangle a lot? Learning curve, not results. THat what these minutes are.

I wasnt happy when we traded a tier-2 PG Felton for a tier-2 PG Calderon and tier-3 PG Shane Larkin ..
We gave away two tier-2 combo-guards Galloway and Grant in offseason.
When we signed a tier-5 PG Ron Baker, then threw a so-call injured tier-3 PG Randle in the D.League i thought Baker wouldn't get any playing-time this season having Rose/Jenning/Sasha/Lee/and Holiday .. I was wrong!
The first time coach Hornacek gave a TIER-5 PG Ron Baker playing-time over a tier-2 combo-guard Sasha were our RED FLAG to TANKING the Knicks season.
Ron Baker 40 minute night let the Heat outscore us in all 4 quarters ....
PG-Shane Larkin play-making skills are 10 times better on offense/defense than Ron Baker !!!
Nalod @ 3/30/2017 2:06 PM
Pining for Shane and shedding all those "Tiers"........
This is what Tanking is all about. Let them play thru and learn.
Was Baker guarding Dragic? Tough hombre to guard!!! Dragic is in the league 8 years, the 45th pick and he was OK in the league until season 4-5-6. From 7ppg avg to 20.
Took a few years to happen. Not saying Baker will do this, but this is what developing players is all about.
Give them time to play thru and if need be, get outplayed. Its how they learn.
crzymdups @ 3/30/2017 2:10 PM
Ron is a nice kid... but I don't think he's an NBA player.

I'd like to Chasson get as many or more minutes than Ron down the stretch, because I think Chasson might have a future as a decent backup, maybe spot starter.

They are trash, although I haven't seen enough of randle to really confirm that

MDA let Lin play through his mistakes because we didn't have anyone else, and we where at least winning in the process.. Letting a player play through his mistakes in a embarrassing losing state is not developing..

Maybe so, and Chasson might be even more established in the minds of Knicks brain trust for next year, so the point might be to give Baker starter minutes, against a player that they might see correlated to what Baker could become, let him FEEL what Goran can do to him, see the tape, then learn from it.

Its not what they are, its what they can become. Neither is much of an NBA player at the moment, and the knicks as a team suck. This is tank, this is letting the kids play.

This... Randle looks like a good scorer who can get guys involved and make some plays. Just dont see it from Baker

Sometimes you got to play a guy 40 minutes in meaningless games to come to the conclusion he isn't an NBA player.

Baker is one of those transparent glue guys we all talk about having when faced with developing one we "don't see it".
Seems to me if Baker can fine tune a few things he might carve out a career going forward.
Now he knows how it feels to play starter minutes, how his body reacted, or didn't, how Dragic got to age 30 and a stud with big money, etc.
He'll have to put in a lot of work but he has something few players get in his position, a base line to work with.
Patience comes in many forms.

Cause no player improves year to year? I don't even understand the basis for this

Nobody improves. Like ever. It's a no no in the NBA. You're only as good as what you are in your rookie year.

How can a team develop UDFA's if they don't at least stick with them a while or until they get a better prospect instead. Right now Randle and Baker are in the program and I suspect we'll see some of them this summer and hopefully we'll see more progress. It's gonna work itself out as we bring in new young talent to compete this summer.

like the last 3 off seasons

holfresh @ 3/30/2017 4:50 PM
How did Sasha, N'Dour, and Admunson make the team???..Not 1 but questions about 4 guys making the team...

When the 10th and 11th guys are borderline NBA talent, how is that not going to effect the team???

I like Baker a lot. I think he has a good chance of sticking and being a rotation player. I also think his size might make him a better fit then Randle but both guys have a shot at sticking. However, the Knicks have had no continuity over the past three years with the roster and have not stuck with guys. Maybe the front office will change and start to look towards having some continuity.
SocraticBallin22 @ 3/30/2017 5:24 PM
So Baker gets starter minutes for the first time this year and majorly struggled with his shot, and everyone is ready to ship him out and say he doesn't belong in the league? Seriously? lol

His shot was off; it happens. It's his 1st time playing against starters and a good team that is trying to make the playoffs. He went up against a veteran point guard, and I thought defended him well. He was known to be a good shooter in college--it was just a bad night. Maybe he was anxious? Who knows. Let him get the experience and then assess. We're so quick to judge players based on a good or bad game. It's ridiculous. If he can't consistently stroke it when open, he obviously doesn't belong in the league. But to make that determination after 1 game?!? Common now!
