As long as he keeps out of the way and offers blank checks, that's all we can ask of him.

Right now this isn't about Dolan. This is about Phil and his team being allowed to figure things out.

Watching Jeff last night in Miami was educational. He decided to go small with 3 guards to match up better and it was pretty good. You could see the Knicks D was able to keep up and slow the Heat down. On Offense you could see the Ball and Player movement was excellent.

If Phil can upgrade the Talent with more flexible 2 Way Players I trust Jeff will find a way to use them effectively. IMO the future can be really good if Phil can cleanup the Melo issue one way or another. Is Melo gonna stay or go? If he stays what will be his role? If he goes how do you structure the makeup of the team?

i like jeff so thats not a issue. I do feel phil needs to give him total freedom though. As for melo its obvious he cant be a focal point anymore but i dont know if he would accept a reduced role which tells me he wants to move on

The scary thing about this team is that it is better than most people think. That is without Rose and Melo. Those two bring nothing to the table where it matters the most and that is defensively.

I think Phil will be fine with Jeff going forward. The way Jeff has had them playing since the so called Triangle emphasis has been an example of Jeff's skill. He's not having the team run ONLY Side Triangle! He's using more of the rest of the playbook that most are unfamiliar with.

The team looks much more fluid. I doubt Phil will interfere if this is how the team continues to develop. IMO minus Melo and Rose the team relies more on execution than ISO ability and it looks pretty good. I hope Phil let's Rose go and that Melo can accept a reduced role or ask for a Trade.

I hope you are right. It seems like he chooses to interfere when the team is doing better. That has been the pattern both with his coaches and with when he chooses to communicate his displeasures to the public in some form.

nyknickzingis wrote:This is now 2 games we basically won without Melo and Rose. The Magic road game and now this one against Miami. I think this isn't a better team without Melo/Rose, but they are not much worse. Maybe 5-10 wins worse. We'd be in a better spot without both players, having a top 2 pick likely sealed, and we'd have developed Willy/KP more in roles they are in need to play in the future.

But that is not why you play ball, you play to win. On paper, having Noah/Melo/Rose alongside KP/Lee/Willy/Jennings, should have given us a chance at top 5 in the East and the playoffs. But for whatever reason, that I no longer even care for, with Melo/Rose we never played team ball or with same effort as the team showed tonight or in the Orlando.

I just wish we can get more talented players more skilled players who also like to play the same we saw the guys play tonight. The ball was not sticking. It was constantly moving. We are running the Triangle sets much better and I like the way the team is setting up their offense.

There's been plenty of talk that KP can not defend well or fill in for Melo or whatever, but these games show that he can. It's why I embrace rebuilding. We're not exactly winning with Melo/Rose. We're not exactly horrible without them. Get their salaries off the books and get younger players who play well in your system and who defend, who also have more room to grow as Rose/Melo are on their way down in their careers.

I know I've gone in hard on Melo and Rose but IMO it's painfully obvious how much better the ball and player movement and execution is without them. We still have to add Frontline Talent in order to win at a higher level but I'm just done with trying to make something work with Melo. At this point I'm ready to just move on or at least reduce his role as we move forward. IT'S TIME!!!

It better be every Knicks fans opinion that the ball and player movement and execution is better without Melo and Rose on the court since it's so clear to see. Anyone that thinks the ball and player movement is better with either of those two on the court are morons. It's really too bad that neither of them could work for what we want to do cause there will be games that i watch when i see Rose playing well and Melo playing well when the ball and player movement is fine but unfortunately those games don't happen very often but there are games that i actually think Rose could be a good piece for us.

They should make it clear to him he will be coming off the bench of he stays. His ego won't be able to handle it so that may be enough to make him leave. Still if he stays on being him off the bench as a scoring threat and let him have his 15 minutes.

If he goes we need to exit the draft with Josh or Tatum, we also need to sign players like Nigel Hayes who will probably go undrafted. If we are picking where we get Nitlinka instead them we take him and sign a free agent SF. I would not make any draft decisions assuming Austin Rivers will be here or work or for us.

Yeah OR
The scary thing is...
Dolan finally let a president have full autonomy. And the record is even worse!

The wins haven't come but the process of adding and developing young talent is underway!!! As long as Dolan allows Phil to finish building a new Core for the future then it's all good.

They've tried it the other way and now we will try the one way we never tried. Building a young core!!!

He made the job much harder by giving out two of the worst contracts in the league.

Yeah it's harder but not impossible. I'm not even that mad at the Noah deal. If he can move Melo that would be monumental. It'll take a heck of a deal to move Melo but if they are determined it can be done. Probably 3 teams.

I think Melo gets moved. I don't expect much back. I think it is the best thing for both Melo and the Knicks. I just wish someone other than Phil was making the trade.

Why? Is there something special you think someone else is gonna come up with in dealing Melo? There are so few options that I doubt there's really much latitude for any deal. Teams know we want to move him and if he's waving his NTC then we pretty much know it's going to be a team he picks. The GM is really not relevant.

I think Phil has gotten pennies on the dollar for most of his trades. He lets everyone know he doesn't want a player and then doesn't get much. With the contract that he gave Melo, and his letting his intentions be known, I think the chance of him getting anything that will help the Knicks is slim. Too bad he gave out the contract he did and then went out and trashed the player he wants to trade.
