Knicks · Screw getting a starting pg we already have one in Ron baker we need a starting shooting guard (page 4)

No need to exaggerate. We need more Frontline talent obviously but a kid like Baker can hold down the PG role in this style of ball. He's shown a lot of growth already. Baker has held his own against vastly more talented PG's. But to keep it in perspective he's not only a rookie but learning a new position in one of the hardest systems to learn.
The Knicks need upgrades at PG, SG and SF particularly and I'd like a more athletic PF in the mix. This shouldn't be looked at as a quick fix situation. It's a long term project where we have multiple young players being developed simultaneously.

As long as you mean Baker can hold down the role for another 30 win season, then yes, I agree.
I would have been happy with Calderon/Lopez vs Rose/Noah. Was it less exciting, sure.
But, if anyone thinks Ron Baker can be the starting PG on a play off bound team, his back court mate better resemble Michael or Kobe!

That's not even the expectation right now though. Ron Baker has impressed me this year and I hope he continues to grow.

I don't see the joke...LeBron stopper? You guys love to make these "jokes" more than anything. Like who's thinking about travis wear? I had to google him because i forgot about him. He had nba skill set but no drive or desire to get better. He'll never play in the nba again. Baker is actually starting and showing that he belongs... but no lets joke and bash the team constantly until your favorite all-stars decides to leave their situations so you can cup them. It's not about winning to most fans of the Knicks. Its about bashing the team and making stupid jokes. The evidence is these type of threads that get the most hits.... all of the draft threads go one page and disappear.... these troll threads last forever cause of the bukkake festival you guys love to partake in.
The joke is that he has -0.1 win shares and I have 0. It's just a joke. Relax. He's one of just a few players in the league that managed to get their win share total below zero. To be fair, win shares doesn't account for man to man defense very well, and he'd look less bad if it did. According to the player tracking data, he's holding his man to 42.0% shooting, which is a couple of points better than the average guard. I don't mind having him on the roster and if he actually makes it in the NBA, I'll be happy for him. I'm not sure who the other stuff about all-stars is directed at.

When watching a prospect like Baker you can't go by the big numbers. It's the little details that stand out. He pretty much always does the right thing and is in the right place. He's tough and doesn't give an inch to anyone. He's smart and you can see how he has learned the offense and can run the team.
Now he's also starting to get his offense going which I always felt he would eventually do. The more he plays the more confident he's getting and he's less tight. He's playing more freely. You see more of his offense coming thru. The kid was able to score well enough in College and I think some people were judging him too harshly. It's not easy to adapt to the NBA level at the same time learning a new position and the Triangle too.
Paris907 wrote:Think of who Baker has to guard night in night out. Wall, Westbrook, Hardin, Lollards, Kemba Walker, etc. these guys fly. I like Baker and consider him a keeper yet I am not gonna delude myself into believing he's got real speed. Let Fox run the show and keep Baker around for 10 years in thebrotation. He will be better than Delavadova for sure.
Baker may not have the jets as those guys in a forward foot race but his lateral quickness/strength and willingness to defend is very good. I don't watch too much NBA outside of the Knicks but I haven't seen ANY of those guys you mention (maybe outside of Westbrook) show the same defensive and lateral quickness as Baker.

I remember lance Thomas had -.048 WS48, so I wouldn't read too much into it.

I think I'm missing something here in your argument. From an advanced stat perspective, Thomas still sucks. His win shares are bad. He has the worst plus/minus on our bad team. His value over replacement is in negative territory - meaning a D league replacement level player would be expected to contribute more.

He obviously struggled nightly for majority of the year. Would need to see the advanced stats since Rose went down. When he started getting force fed mins.

It's probably only a little better now. Pre and post all star he shot 37% from the field. The #s were a little better this month but it's only a few games.

I don't really care about Baker's stats. He's getting better and doesn't look like he's peaked in terms of how much better he can get. Just let him develop and if the Draft hands us a PG no problem. Baker is a nice piece of the puzzle.

I don't mind having Baker take a roster spot, and he could possibly have a long-term NBA career. Willy and KP are our only 2 young players that I would confidently fit into the team's long-term picture at this point though.

I'm fine with Baker being a reliable role player for this team going forward. We have so many needs that it's going to take time to fill them all. Baker can develop into a solid 2 way player IMO. The easy part for him is to work on his shooting. If you have a prospect that already defends, passes and makes smart decisions but just needs to improve his consistency on his jumper, then I think you have a very good prospect.
If our pg passes and plays tough D, I'll be happy. If he can score and shoot well all the better.
I like C.Lee but he's not the dynamic scorer and smart distributor we need.
