Knicks president Phil Jackson met recently with Kristaps Porzingis' brother to discuss some of the issues that prompted the Latvian star to skip out on his exit meeting, the Daily News has learned.However, the lengthy sit-down in New York accomplished very little to bridge the chasm as Jackson remained steadfast in his ways and direction, according to a team source.
Kristaps was overseas while Janis Porzingis - who is also Kristaps' agent - represented his younger brother. It's unclear what they specifically discussed but Kristaps' discontent with the organization's dysfunction turned public after the 21-year-old passed on attending his exit meeting last month.
Both Jackson and Janis spoke around these issues to the media prior to their meeting, with the latter telling ESPN that Kristaps wants to remain in New York but also desires "for the Knicks to create an environment where he can develop and grow as a player and win."

Jackson referred to a statement from coach Jeff Hornacek, who said Porzingis progressed last season and, "(You) can't do anything about the past. That’s the big thing. Whatever happened and went on, you can’t dwell on it.”Apparently Porzingis can't do much about the future, either, with Jackson unrelenting in his philosophies while aiming to increase his influence over the coaching staff. According to sources, one of Jackson's objectives is to tailor the workouts and training sessions around learning the triangle offense.
"I think I've got to do a little bit more on-scene, on-target mentoring," Jackson said last month.
Although statistically very impressive, Porzingis' production per minute last season was roughly the same as his rookie campaign. For the first two months, Porzingis played like an All-Star and the Knicks were headed toward the playoffs. But then he strained his Achilles and the season spiraled downward amid confusion about the offense, the defense, Carmelo Anthony's future, Joakim Noah's availability and Derrick Rose's whereabouts.The trade for Rose last summer was clearly a negative for Porzingis. He had paired well in the front court with Robin Lopez (dealt away in the trade), and saw less of the ball with Rose on the floor.
Porzingis sat out the final five games of the season with a sore back, skipped his exit meeting with Jackson and then flew to Latvia to announce that he'll be competing in the European championships this summer.
As recently as last week, Hornacek said he reached out to Porzingis via text message but indicated there was no response.

Phil said when he was hired that he believes in system basketball, but it doesn't necessarily have to be the Triangle thats run in NY. Was that true?
Hornacek was successful running his own system, his first year in Phoenix, before mgmt made a hash of things. Jeff learned under Jerry Sloan, one of the best coaches in NBA history. As a fan, I just want to Phil to keep his word. Im pretty sure doing so will produce much better results.

Yeah but when do we care what an agent wants for his client over the team?
Plus he's really making things harder for himself can you imagine after all this is he comes into next season no better or has a down year? Or if he gets injured during the Latvia games.

Neither of you have any accurate take from the meeting because none of it was sourced from those who were actually there.
Neither is making a statement.
One could take it a negative that nothing was resolved but then what was there to resolve?
Fans have a hard time dealing with "uncertainty". We all suffer this as well.

Is it as dark as Crush thinks? or rosy as Nix thinks? Who knows. There is a problem that Im not sure we all get. KP actions and subsequent rumors are troubling to me. This is just something we don't see very often. He is not a bonafide star and yet making "demands"? Does KP want Lebron type franchise powers??? Or is there a stench of something very wrong with this franchise that it has been put "On notice"?

I doubt HIGHLY that the Knicks will be trash! The key will be improvement on Defense and they can certainly achieve that with better defensive talent. That's a stated goal so hopefully they achieve that goal.

The don't have a defensive system in place and few if any true defensive talents. In the next 3-4 years do you truly EXPECT the Knicks to be a good defensive team?

KP is not AAU talent, he didn't grow up poor or without fundamentals, he didn't struggle for money, he comes from a winning environment, clearly that's what important to him and if phil want to continue to sacrifice wins for system, this is the type of reaction h's going to get from players that want to win.
Players that are just happy to be on a NBA roster, will always play harder, but will hardly ever be talented enough to have any real impact.
