Knicks · Reality check for Lebron James and Tiger Woods (page 1)

Look I don't post a lot anymore but I do a lot of viewing. I'm posting this because Lebron James is a basketball player and Tiger Woods plays golf.
Someone sprayed the N word in the front of Lebron's home and now he realize that no matter how much money he makes or how popular he is the hate is still out there waiting for a loved black sports hero to fall down. I was disappointed at Tiger Woods when he refused to say that he was African American because of his mother. Tiger made sure that he kept his
distance when it came to something that had to do with blacks in America. Now that Tiger got a DWI I think he found out who he is and what he is. It was a damn shame how they put all of that information with film and pictures on Tiger Woods. Black Man Down. Now he really know that he is a black man in America.
That's why I say if you are a basketball player, get all the money you can because you are just on step away from being thrown under the bus. I feel sad for Tiger Woods and Lebron James for what happened to him. Seems this stuff is really growing since Trumps been in office. I DO NOT WANT THIS TO BE A ANGER RACE HATE POST. I'm just saying that if Tiger was not black I don't think all of that film and pictures would have been leaked to the public. It seems that there is a lot of hate against basketball players. What do you think?

Nalod @ 6/3/2017 1:14 PM
Papa, what we are seeing from empowered racists is the backlash against Obama's impact.
He also shamed the hell out of trump in the correspondents dinner a few years ago. Trump is a petty little man who will find ways in his mind to get back at Obama for his own personal gratification.

Just like the little shyt went to europe, was found wanting, then backed out of Paris agreement to show Europe "who the man now?"
The Obama era could not be replaced with a female president. Thats too much for our population to take

Papabear-- I guarantee this 90%+ of white people don't sit around the dinner table thinking what can we do to hold the black man down. They also don't hate black people Chinese people Hispanic people or anyone else-- they just try to do right by their family friends and community even Trump supporters -- too many people like to classify them as "racist" when the honesty is they are just as much forgotten as anyone in the inner city. Now the other 10%-- those are you're racist. I also believe in some institutional racism by police in the us. But when I hear there is so much racism in the world I stop and cringe. You're selling most people short.

Briggs I don't want this to be about race only. We would not have gotten this far without white people. The majority are kind loving people. But I assure you that a great deal of people who went to Trumps events wanted to see America Great Again. I'm saying what they did to Tiger Woods was a shame. He was treated like a black man because he is a black man. And I stand to be corrected, Tiger is a big supporter of sickacell anemia and other minority causes. This country is the greatest country in the world but all it takes is someone like Trump to turn it around to the dark side.

As a white male this thread makes me want to vomit. I have always treated every race the exact same. In fact one of my three best friends happens to be black and he feels the same way. I'm so tired of some playing "the race card" and blaming "whites". The point is if you are a good person,do well for yourself and your family, and treat others with respect then it doesn't matter what race you are. Tiger Woods and Lebron are incredible athletes and sports figure BUT they are also to put it bluntly scumbags. Lebron isn't as bad as tiger Woods but Lebron has had his moments too.

I think there are well-intentioned people in the world...but I'm not nearly as optimistic as you. I don't want to detour too far from the OP's points but as far as examples of systematic/implicit racism look no further than the police- namely how they handle percieved threats and the general public's take of their actions.

In "life-threathening" situations: white mass murderers- armed to the "T"- magically get apprehended alive (e.g. Dylan Roof, Jared Loughner, James Holmes, etc.) while unarmed, non-threathening Black men are killed almost immediately (e.g. Eric Garner, Philando Castile, John Crawford III, Trayvon Martin, Terence Crutcher, etc.). The public's take on the former is that it is a case of mental illness and/or simply a "lone wolf" incident; their opinion on the latter is that this is the result of "Black culture" and actions made by the alleged victim despite their being sufficient evidence that no threat was posed.

So just because people are potty-trained and not burning crosses on my front lawn any more, it doesn't mean that there is not an infrastructure/culture in place that is intentionally racist by design. And that infrastructure is in part pertuated by a general public that acts like it doesn't exist or targets a specific segment of the population. That is the reality Black and Brown people face in this country although some of them forget it because of the money they make.

I don't think this was a reality check for LeBron. I think he knows what the deal is but plays the role to keep those endorsement checks rolling in and his investments viable. But when the moment to stand up comes (e.g. with Eric Garner or Trayvon Martin), he has because he knows the only thing seperating himself from us are three commas in his bank account. Lose that money, and he knows real quick how real things will get out here.

As for Tiger Woods, fuck him. The reality is that had he not gotten caught up, he probably would've been up there c**ning with the likes of Charles Barkley, Stephen A Smith, Jason Whitlock and the Fox News crew on Black related issues. There is good money in being a pet to White people.

I strongly disagree. Surprised people still have trouble seeing it on some level, at least. Just because its not like something out of a conspiracy movie, doesn't mean there aren't structural problems, inequities, on an institutional level that have traditionally fallen hardest on people of color.

No offense but this has to be the biggest bunch of horseh^t I've ever heard.

I strongly disagree. Surprised people still have trouble seeing it on some level, at least. Just because its not like something out of a conspiracy movie, doesn't mean there aren't structural problems, inequities, on an institutional level that have traditionally fallen hardest on people of color.

Look I'm not saying everything is perfect BUT it affects everyne INCLUDING whites too. I just feel this thread is made to "bash whites" which I offensive to me I'm sorry

LeBron eloquently reminded everyone that there was still more work to do. I don't blame someone who has been around as long as papabear to be frustrated that this is still the case.

Papabear-- I guarantee this 90%+ of white people don't sit around the dinner table thinking what can we do to hold the black man down. They also don't hate black people Chinese people Hispanic people or anyone else-- they just try to do right by their family friends and community even Trump supporters -- too many people like to classify them as "racist" when the honesty is they are just as much forgotten as anyone in the inner city. Now the other 10%-- those are you're racist. I also believe in some institutional racism by police in the us. But when I hear there is so much racism in the world I stop and cringe. You're selling most people short.

I think there are well-intentioned people in the world...but I'm not nearly as optimistic as you. I don't want to detour too far from the OP's points but as far as examples of systematic/implicit racism look no further than the police- namely how they handle percieved threats and the general public's take of their actions.

No one hates the white race. Hell my mother cleaned for white people help raise thier children until she was able to get her nursing degree and march with Martin Luther King along with white people. If it wasn't for whites who cared Martin Luther king would not have gotten the civil rights movement working. And no there are no Mohamad Ali , or Author Ash, or Malcolm X leaders today. And believe if it weren't for white people standing up to Trump!! God help us. And think of this 35% of voters love Trump. Now how many of them have that put the black back to the 50s. What percent of Trumps voter have a little racism in them. The arrest and unrubbing of Tiger Woods for the world to see reminds me of the stripping of the Black Panthers butt necked to the world to see. It was not necessary.

Hey I'm not bashing white people. Some of my good friends are white. You are getting this all wrong. I think you need to really go see what black people are going through in this country and believe this is the greatest country in the world. Look when Hitler took power the people loved him because he promised to change things and get them jobs. But he also brought in one more thing. HATE and down with the Jews. Man they killed over 6 million of them and people looked the other way because they thought he was making Germany Great again.

Stevo718 @ 6/4/2017 5:01 PM
Sorry but there is a thing called "white privilege", I do not like the term itself because it makes white people defensive and I think it divides just as much as it unites people. But the white man has definitely tried to keep the black man down. Things are definitely changing though but at the same time when someone is a thief or lazy or violent or disrespectful call it for what it is and stop throwing the race card out there. I check I.D.s at the bar I work at... if you look young or look like a drug addict or look ghetto or simply look shady I WILL CHECK YOUR ID... Ive had a black person ask me "its cause I'm black right?"... no sir its because you wreak of weed your pants hang so low everyone can see your underwear and I like to keep some level of respect at my establishment.

There are also cultural differences. Black parents don't put as high a priority on school for their kids as other races and for a very long time the only images of blacks we saw on the media were of criminals, entertainers or athletes, that is horrible and definitely has an effect on the black youth. The black culture has a lot of self defeating attributes... if you do good in school then your looked down on and made fun of especially in the inner cities. This all has to change and I think the white controlled media has to make the first step and stop putting all these negative images of blacks on tv and media. The media also has to stop dividing us as well.

And finally people got to realize that theres always gonna be some type of prejudices and perceptions and what are you gonna do about it? Sometimes you gotta make adjustments, and its not fair, or you can complain about it. This country is big enough and rich enough that if you want to achieve something you can, and you have to fight sometimes on an uneven playing field... that's life and you deal with it while at the same time breaking down barriers and slowly leveling the playing field for everyone.

Briggs, I think that the percentage is closer to 99%.

If you simplify it towards sitting around the dinner table thinking about how they can hold the black man down. Then you would probably be accurate. But to simplify it to that level is basically trying to play with our intelligence.

Directly post slavery white Americans most likely only "hated" blacks due to ignorance, racial bias, being un/miss informed. The idea of blacks being second class citizens, less then human subspecies while whites were to get the best of everything was/is very appealing. Especially in the early stages of America when opportunity was even more available. Someone was feeding the masses this narrative of blacks.

Bombing of BWS 1920s
Redlining 1930-1960s
Assignations of MLK, JFK, X, RK 1960s
Influx of drugs and War on drugs 1970-2000s
Mass incarceration, 3 strikes, excessive sentencing if plea deal not agreed to 1990s-2000s, different sentencing for crack vs cocaine.

I am sure that 99% of white Americans didn't sit at the dinner table thinking about what they could do to hold the black man down during these times either. Yet all of these racially motivated actions happened. The 99% didn't prevent these issues from happening either. After 15 yrs of throwing blacks in jail with unfair sentencing laws from the Clinton admin. Obama finally was able to get a fair sentencing law in. And with research the fair sentencing laws makes sense. Yet without the research blacks automatically are demonized and fingers are pointed and deflection tactics are expressed if anyone cries foul.

We knew we couldn’t make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin, and then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities. We could arrest their leaders, raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news. Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did.”

This was in the 60s leading into 70s 100 years after slavery was abolished. The 99% probably weren't at the dinner table thinking up how they could hold the black man down during this time either. Yet its admitted that there was a war on hippies and blacks directed by the freaking POTUS and his backers. The 99% didn't prevent this from happening and they were willing to buy into the narrative.

2016-2017 Colin Kapernick even if you feel he was wrong in his belief and or how he went about with his protest has been demonized and now has been blackballed from the league. For silently protesting the national anthem. Pretty much all he did was speak out against a white narrative. Typical bully fashion.
