Knicks · Reality check for Lebron James and Tiger Woods (page 2)

Someone sprayed the N word in the front of Lebron's home and now he realize that no matter how much money he makes or how popular he is the hate is still out there waiting for a loved black sports hero to fall down. I was disappointed at Tiger Woods when he refused to say that he was African American because of his mother. Tiger made sure that he kept his
distance when it came to something that had to do with blacks in America. Now that Tiger got a DWI I think he found out who he is and what he is. It was a damn shame how they put all of that information with film and pictures on Tiger Woods. Black Man Down. Now he really know that he is a black man in America.
That's why I say if you are a basketball player, get all the money you can because you are just on step away from being thrown under the bus. I feel sad for Tiger Woods and Lebron James for what happened to him. Seems this stuff is really growing since Trumps been in office. I DO NOT WANT THIS TO BE A ANGER RACE HATE POST. I'm just saying that if Tiger was not black I don't think all of that film and pictures would have been leaked to the public. It seems that there is a lot of hate against basketball players. What do you think?Papabear-- I guarantee this 90%+ of white people don't sit around the dinner table thinking what can we do to hold the black man down. They also don't hate black people Chinese people Hispanic people or anyone else-- they just try to do right by their family friends and community even Trump supporters -- too many people like to classify them as "racist" when the honesty is they are just as much forgotten as anyone in the inner city. Now the other 10%-- those are you're racist. I also believe in some institutional racism by police in the us. But when I hear there is so much racism in the world I stop and cringe. You're selling most people short.
Briggs, I think that the percentage is closer to 99%.
If you simplify it towards sitting around the dinner table thinking about how they can hold the black man down. Then you would probably be accurate. But to simplify it to that level is basically trying to play with our intelligence.
Directly post slavery white Americans most likely only "hated" blacks due to ignorance, racial bias, being un/miss informed. The idea of blacks being second class citizens, less then human subspecies while whites were to get the best of everything was/is very appealing. Especially in the early stages of America when opportunity was even more available. Someone was feeding the masses this narrative of blacks.
Bombing of BWS 1920s
Redlining 1930-1960s
Assignations of MLK, JFK, X, RK 1960s
Influx of drugs and War on drugs 1970-2000s
Mass incarceration, 3 strikes, excessive sentencing if plea deal not agreed to 1990s-2000s, different sentencing for crack vs cocaine.
I am sure that 99% of white Americans didn't sit at the dinner table thinking about what they could do to hold the black man down during these times either. Yet all of these racially motivated actions happened. The 99% didn't prevent these issues from happening either. After 15 yrs of throwing blacks in jail with unfair sentencing laws from the Clinton admin. Obama finally was able to get a fair sentencing law in. And with research the fair sentencing laws makes sense. Yet without the research blacks automatically are demonized and fingers are pointed and deflection tactics are expressed if anyone cries foul.
We knew we couldn’t make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin, and then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities. We could arrest their leaders, raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news. Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did.”
This was in the 60s leading into 70s 100 years after slavery was abolished. The 99% probably weren't at the dinner table thinking up how they could hold the black man down during this time either. Yet its admitted that there was a war on hippies and blacks directed by the freaking POTUS and his backers. The 99% didn't prevent this from happening and they were willing to buy into the narrative.
2016-2017 Colin Kapernick even if you feel he was wrong in his belief and or how he went about with his protest has been demonized and now has been blackballed from the league. For silently protesting the national anthem. Pretty much all he did was speak out against a white narrative. Typical bully fashion.

This country was quite literally built on the backs of people, who people like you seem to have no problem disregarding or dismissing. So seeing how you seem to take issue with their lineage expressing their displeasure of how they are being treated, I recommended you leave and find a country that doesn't have these issues. After all, they've invested centuries of blood, sweat and tears into this country that ultimately made it into the economic super power that it is. How long has your line been here for? 3 generations back or so?

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore,
That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion
A home and a Country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wash’d out their foul footstep’s pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave,
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
I suppose this is the part where you dismiss this unsung portion of the Star Spangled Banner as not being an issue and not a demonstration of how adverserial race relations have always been in this country.

No one is adversarial--its something inherently embedded in some peoples brains. In the US anyone can have success. No one is bound by race creed or religion. In many MANY other countries--this is not so. Racism exists in every country--thats an unfortunate fact. I think in the uS however in modern times its mild. Do you honestly believe that more than 10% of the American white population is adversarial to other creeds and races? Id wager its much worse the other way around.

Nard dog--if you are African American--can you tell me of ONE documented case of a white person holding you back from success? Did a white person make you get on the back of a bus or not serve you food? Did a white person say you cant go to this college because your black? Or you cant have this job because your black?

Assignations of MLK, JFK, X, RK 1960s
Influx of drugs and War on drugs 1970-2000s
Mass incarceration, 3 strikes, excessive sentencing if plea deal not agreed to 1990s-2000s, different sentencing for crack vs cocaine.I am sure that 99% of white Americans didn't sit at the dinner table thinking about what they could do to hold the black man down during these times either.
Of course we did.”This was in the 60s leading into 70s 100 years after slavery was abolished.
A lot of people spilled their blood and guts for the National Anthem. There are many countries in the world --if Colin doesnt like this one--go find another?
And that is where we are at as a society in 2017? Say Colin was wrong using the Anthem to display his quiet protest. The immediate reaction to demonize and blackball him isn't the answer. Telling him to leave the country isn't the answer.

Briggs you made a statement about the National Anthem being about a man who saw our flag stand through battle where Americans were able to protect this homeland. Nardog gave you more information about the man who saw the flag stand through battle and what the battle was actually about.
Here is more info.
The Star-Spangled Banner,” Americans hazily remember, was written by Francis Scott Key about the Battle of Fort McHenry in Baltimore during the War of 1812. But we don’t ever talk about how the War of 1812 was a war of aggression that began with an attempt by the U.S. to grab Canada from the British Empire. However, we’d wildly overestimated the strength of the U.S. military. By the time of the Battle of Fort McHenry in 1814, the British had counterattacked and overrun Washington, D.C., setting fire to the White House.
And one of the key tactics behind the British military’s success was its active recruitment of American slaves. As a detailed 2014 article in Harper’s explains, the orders given to the Royal Navy’s Admiral Sir George Cockburn read:
Let the landings you make be more for the protection of the desertion of the Black Population than with a view to any other advantage. … The great point to be attained is the cordial Support of the Black population. With them properly armed & backed with 20,000 British Troops, Mr. Madison will be hurled from his throne.
Whole families found their way to the ships of the British, who accepted everyone and pledged no one would be given back to their “owners.” Adult men were trained to create a regiment called the Colonial Marines, who participated in many of the most important battles, including the August 1814 raid on Washington.
Then on the night of September 13, 1814, the British bombarded Fort McHenry. Key, seeing the fort’s flag the next morning, was inspired to write the lyrics for “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
So when Key penned “No refuge could save the hireling and slave / From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave,” he was taking great satisfaction in the death of slaves who’d freed themselves. His perspective may have been affected by the fact he owned several slaves himself.
With that in mind, think again about the next two lines: “And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave / O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.”
The reality is that there were human beings fighting for freedom with incredible bravery during the War of 1812. However, “The Star-Spangled Banner” glorifies America’s “triumph” over them — and then turns that reality completely upside down, transforming their killers into the courageous freedom fighters.
After the U.S. and the British signed a peace treaty at the end of 1814, the U.S. government demanded the return of American “property,” which by that point numbered about 6,000 people. The British refused. Most of the 6,000 eventually settled in Canada, with some going to Trinidad, where their descendants are still known as “Merikins.”
Furthermore, if those leading the backlash against Kaepernick need more inspiration, they can get it from Francis Scott Key’s later life.
By 1833, Key was a district attorney for Washington, D.C. As described in a book called Snowstorm in August by former Washington Post reporter Jefferson Morley, the police were notorious thieves, frequently stealing free blacks’ possessions with impunity. One night, one of the constables tried to attack a woman who escaped and ran away — until she fell off a bridge across the Potomac and drowned.
“There is neither mercy nor justice for colored people in this district,” an abolitionist paper wrote. “No fuss or stir was made about it. She was got out of the river, and was buried, and there the matter ended.”
Key was furious and indicted the newspaper for intending “to injure, oppress, aggrieve & vilify the good name, fame, credit & reputation of the Magistrates & constables of Washington County.”
You can decide for yourself whether there’s some connection between what happened 200 years ago and what Colin Kaepernick is angry about today. Maybe it’s all ancient, meaningless history. Or maybe it’s not, and Kaepernick is right, and we really need a new national anthem.
Before moving on to questioning Nardog if he has personally been held back by any whites. First realize the contents of your original statements about the National Anthem and the information presented.

In Junior High School, I was effectively tied with a student for the second best grades in our graduating class. The seperation between us was a fraction of a point, which was to her advantage. She won salutatorian; I got dick.
Interestingly enough, the year before two students with the same grades won the distinction; both were of Ukranian/Eastern European decent. The seperation between their averages was 1.3. I know because I was a part of the color guard for their graduation, which were reserved for honor students.
I've got more damaging examples but this was the quickest to outline.

Like I said: duck, dodge, dismiss.
It doesnt matter and Im not spending one more minute on it. In the US you are free to become President of the United States no matter what creed race religion you are as long as you were born here. You can hold any job go to any school marry within different creeds races etc--live anywhere you want. Its ILLEGAL to discriminate based on those same parameters. What exactly is Colin K protesting? To me hes a disrespectful person--thats all. Slavery doesnt exist in the US anymore. The US has come a long positive way

Briggs once stated that he had no idea was redlining is but racism doesn't exist anymore. He hasn't put any effort to educate himself on African American history in America. His opinions don't hold much weight until he is able to do so. Until then he will only state what convenient for him.

I am 20 years in US and citizen for 15 years.
To be honest the Anthem means nothing to me from historical perspective.
It is not my history. It has nothing to do with me.
And the conflicts between "blacks" and "whites" means not much for me also.
Sorry, but this is same for tens and already hundreds of millions of new immigrants from Russia, India, China, Latin America, West Europe, East Europe, etc.
I do respect the Anthem whatever it history is because I am a citizen of this country and the rest is irrelevant and remote to me.
I see the remnants of racism and knew about history if it is this country.
And I hope this issues will be resolved as time goes by naturally as US became more and more diverse, multiracial, and % of so called "blacks" and "whites" are getting less and less. This groups are not the future of this country. They are bound to slowly disperse like everything in the melting pot of history.
As per Tiger, he is really lost, and he needs help.
I do not think of him as a black or white. He is just man in crisis.
American culture is hard on losers. America wants superheros, great stories, happy endings.
Tiger be-trade this America... And this mentality is sad.
I hope this culture of ignorance to other people pain will go away with all this "white" and "black" people.
One can always hope.
