Knicks · Little tidbit on Frank N (page 2)

All about what you want.
Smart is a heck of a player and guy you need on a good team. Top 3 option he isn't.
Monk or Smith if they develop, especially Monk, is likely a top 3 option scorer on a team in the league. My player comparisons
Smith - Dennis Shroedor type/level of player if he develops. 15 points, 6 assists a game.
Ntilinkina - Marcus Smart type/level player of player if he develops. More impact than basic stats can show.
Monk - Better, smarter JR Smith unless he develops point skills, in which case he can be even better. 18 points a night. All obvious if they develop, avoid injuries.
I think the most certain to get to his upside is Monk, because his NBA level skills are already there and he has the athleticism. He may need a few years to get better at certain things and to learn how to adjust, become consistent.
But that doesn't mean you take Monk. That's why Phil and Gaines are there. Do interviews. Work outs.
I trust we will choose the right guy of the three guards if the draft goes as rumored.
My order would be
Fultz
Ball
Jackson
Fox
Isaac
Tatum
Monk
Smith
Ntilinkina
LauriThe top 10 is really nice this year. Of the 10, I tend to like Fultz, Ball, Jackson, Isaac, Monk more than the rest. Just on instinct.
With the way our team is set up with developing players, Monk or Smith would really blend in nice with a rebuild.
All 1-2 years into league:
Porzingis
Hernangomez/NDour
Kuzminskas
Baker
RandleAdd a Monk or Smith, now you have some perimeter talent to go with the more talented big man talent you have. NDour/Kuz/Randle all likely backups in the making, and Baker can be a 5th option starter if the rest of the starting lineup has plenty of scoring.
Which "big 3" is best in a rebuild year?
KP/Willy/Monk (Could get you 20/15/15 each?)
KP/Willy/Smith (Could get you 20/15/10-5 each?)I think Monk is our best safest bet. I think he can give this team 13-15 points right away in the Courtney Lee role. Trade Lee for a young player or a draft pick. If we trade Melo for a draft pick, some young players, you are likely a 25 win team next year. You want some young guys that can score, and are exciting to watch develop. I tend to prefer Smith or Monk for that reason. I think they fit well with KP/Willy. Of the two, I think Smith's injury past makes Monk the wiser choice.
I really would take a chance on Frank, but with a second pick. I wouldn't use 8 on him. However if Phil takes him. I reserve judgement. Phil does the interviews and the scouting as well. He knows what players play winning basketball. My instinct just tells me give Hornachel a player like Monk, he will get freedom to score/shoot and run the wings, he will be exciting to watch and also play well under Horny. Small chance because of the Kentucky connection we keep Rose and have a really interesting backcourt of Monk/Rose with KP/Willy upfront and a young athletic two way wing from a Melo trade at 3.
Looking at Monk his numbers does not really translate into a quality player. He will have to work very hard to become a great offensive player but even then he has work to do improving his defense, rebounding, and passing.
If we can get a 2nd 1st round pick--like the Detroit one--and take Frank N and Jarrett Allen--wed have two lengthy players up the middle to help our D and both have upside on offense. Maybe you look at Frank mason for the same Patty Mills type role off the bench and a tougher athlete like Burton etc.. for 58. I think well do better if we stay away from the Monki's Smith's etc..

Agree. A player needs to be able to stay in the floor in order to be part of a big three on a good team. Monk's inability to facilitate an offense and defend makes me view him more as a role player than a star. I can see an argument for Smith, although I like Frank's better, but I'm not sold on Monk. Just seems too one dimensional.

Briggs, a dunk is worth the same as a layup. He looks like he's a better all-around athlete than ball, who you swear is elite. The one thing that also sticks out in all his scouting reports is that he has advance mid-range game. He'll be able to score.
nixluva wrote:newyorknewyork wrote:GustavBahler wrote:blkexec wrote:what if he's the next charlie ward...with lock down potential as a pg.would be the best defensive guard on the team.
Ward was steady, maybe one of the steadiest PGs the team has ever had. Still hoping for someone who moves the needle more. If Frank is a project, he's a long term one with a franchise that doesn't really do long term. And as Nix said, his ceiling is questionable, considering current events in Europe.
If Phil lands a 2nd first rounder. He might get away with taking a project like Frank. His frame also looks like it can and will add weight. He probably ends up on the wing and becomes similar to Batum when all said and done.
Good point. Phil could take a risk and cover himself with a player that is a solid lock to produce. I think Nitty ends up as a SG with passing. He's going to fill out from how he looks. He doesn't look extremely quick with the ball. Still could be a good overall player but I don't see a star.
With how little any of us have to see with Frank i don't see how anyone can predict anything from this kid. He's 18 so he still has growing to do and could end up big enough to play SF as well as SG and PG which would be nice to have especially a kid that plays defense like he does. On the offensive side we just don't know what he'll become and he wasn't asked to do much on offense with his team so this is where the workout will be huge for the Knicks people to get an idea what he can do on that side of the ball. They'll put him in some one on one drills and put him through shooting drills and if they decide he's the guy for us at #8 after seeing what he does in the workout then i'm all for it.

I think Nitty ends up as a solid two-way combo. We're still a long way from building this roster and we don't need to hit grandslams with every pick. We just need solid picks. The fact that he might be a project shouldn't scare us because, well, we suck. We're going to suck next year and the year after that.
But if they're alright with getting solid players in this draft then they should trade that #8 pick to Portland for all 3 of their picks and draft 3 solid players at 15, 20 and 26.
Frank Jackson
R.Kurucs
L.Kennard
J.Bell
TJ Leaf
There's so many intriguing names in this 1st round that should be around in the mid to late part of the 1st that we could come out of this draft with 3 good players which we need for this rebuild.

I like Nitty better as a prospect than those guys, but I could see that. You could make a handshake agreement with Portland and if the pieces line up, go forward with a deal.
If French prodigy point guard Frank Ntilikina is on the board when the Knicks are on the clock with the No. 8 pick, don't be shocked if the pick comes in quickly. As the countdown to the 2017 NBA Draft continues, rumors are flying surrounding interest between teams and players. According NBA insider Jordan Schultz, the Knicks are "enamored" with Ntilikina.
New York has been rumored to like the French star for months, dating back to the start of the draft process.
If the objective of the offseason is to land a point guard with defensive ability, the long, rangy Ntilikina makes sense as the pick. Plus, his game could fit well into the triangle offense--something paramount to playing for the Knicks as long as Phil Jackson is running the show.
The fact that Schultz mentioned Ntilikina's shooting ability could be a boon to the Knicks offense from Day 1. If Ntilikina can excel in the pick-and-roll game with Kristaps Porzingis, a dynamic young duo could begin to form chemistry at Madison Square Garden.
The 18-year-old shot 43 percent from three-point range as a professional in Europe during the 2016-17 season. In 70 professional games over the last three years, Ntilikina owns a 40 percent shooting mark from downtown.

This will come down to workouts. If Frank shows elite athleticism it may be really hard to pass on a guy like that.

I agree and the Knicks need to STACK talent. It's not going to be about just one guy. Phil may feel Nitty has a pseudo Kawhi type potential and that is something special for this team that's so devoid of defensive talent.

One has to put things in perspective. He is not playing big minutes, no posterizing opponents, and thus not dominating!!! Oh my!!!
1. He is 18. In Europe, this is rare that he is even playing and we have to consider he is playing at this level while our kids are still in high school. The euro game does not promote AAU type demonstrations or celebrate dunks. PG's in Europe are to push the ball for a few minutes then sub out.
If Gaines likes this kid, thats good enough for me.

I think the pick at #8 is between F.Nitty and D.Mitchell because of what they do on defense. Both also have offense to their games but it starts with defense.
Many saw that from Feb, when it was clear we were going lottery.
Jeff and Phil said focus would be on defense.
He's also quite young.
Have a hard time seeing him not be there at 8. Most mocks have him at 9-10.
Fultz - Boston
Ball - Lakers
Jackson or Fox - Sixers
Jackson or Fox - Suns
Tatum or Isaac - Kings
Smith or Isaac or Tatum - Wolves
The only team I could see take Ntilikna early is Orlando. In which case it wouldn't be the end of the world, as someone else really good would drop.
I appreciate that the Knicks are serious about getting defensively better. I just hope Frank develops on offense. Physical tools are great when you're a big, or wing, but when you have to run the team as a point, you need smarts, IQ, high level of dribble penetration and paint finish skills coming off screens. Jerian Grant had the tools, but he didn't have the brains. That's why he didn't develop.

Briggs, Frank, Harkless, Aminu, & Mitchell with KP. Then length that we would be able to put on the floor and be able to switch with would be incredible. While still being able to shoot the outside shot.
Aminu is within that Isaac mold without the ability to create offensively but the length rebounding, defense, and 3 point shooting is there.
Also need Hart in the 2nd round. With his leadership, mental toughness, efficiency, dirty work type of style.
This is the type of core we need.

I'd be happy with Ntilikina and Frank Mason. If we get a 2nd first round pick, then get me a tough guy like O.G. or Swanigan.
