He’s 6-foot-5, has close to a 7-foot wingspan, has massive hands, and is an impressive leaper.

Good point. Phil could take a risk and cover himself with a player that is a solid lock to produce. I think Nitty ends up as a SG with passing. He's going to fill out from how he looks. He doesn't look extremely quick with the ball. Still could be a good overall player but I don't see a star.

That's rough then because the point of being a project is that you have star potential. You dont want a project that only has the potential to be a solid player in the lottery. That's more 2nd round territory. But Leonard was viewed some what similar. Which is why he fell to #15. Now he is one of the best players in the NBA.

Frenchy may not habe that edge to him because he is scared to make mistakes as players get pulled early over there for their mistakes. He isnt able to play free and go all out. Its hard to say. Knicks need multiple long hard looks at him when he is able to be worked out.

I dont think we should strictly view him as a PG. He has measurables that make him cappable of guarding 3 positions and being a monster rebounder on the wing or at guard. Adding weight with NBA weight training to absorb contact and finish with a 7ft wing span could make him a stud wing. He is viewed as a lotto pick in a pretty deep draft class. Most likely because he also has discipline to his game to go with his measurments.

I find it impressive that he has gotten his jumper in order so quickly.

Large hands, especially, are not always a plus for a jump shot, and the combination of that with his wingspan would be even more of a hindrance to developing a good shot from my perspective.

If he fills out, you are looking at a guy who should be able to defend at the 1-3 spots. I tend to believe that though he is a combo guard, he'll end up getting most of his play at SG.

Wonder if he has any growth left in his body.

Fine points, but he's a ways off from possibly putting all those qualities together. Usually a player like Frank also has above average foot speed for a wing in their resume. From what Ive read and seen, that's not the case. Too many question marks IMO for a top ten, first round pick.

But the Knicks never seem to have players like this.

My player comparisons

Smith - Dennis Shroedor type/level of player if he develops. 15 points, 6 assists a game.
Ntilinkina - Marcus Smart type/level player of player if he develops. More impact than basic stats can show.
Monk - Better, smarter JR Smith unless he develops point skills, in which case he can be even better. 18 points a night.

All obvious if they develop, avoid injuries.

I think the most certain to get to his upside is Monk, because his NBA level skills are already there and he has the athleticism. He may need a few years to get better at certain things and to learn how to adjust, become consistent.

But that doesn't mean you take Monk. That's why Phil and Gaines are there. Do interviews. Work outs.

I trust we will choose the right guy of the three guards if the draft goes as rumored.

My order would be

Fultz
Ball
Jackson
Fox
Isaac
Tatum
Monk
Smith
Ntilinkina
Lauri

The top 10 is really nice this year. Of the 10, I tend to like Fultz, Ball, Jackson, Isaac, Monk more than the rest. Just on instinct.

With the way our team is set up with developing players, Monk or Smith would really blend in nice with a rebuild.

Kuzminskas
Baker
Randle

Add a Monk or Smith, now you have some perimeter talent to go with the more talented big man talent you have. NDour/Kuz/Randle all likely backups in the making, and Baker can be a 5th option starter if the rest of the starting lineup has plenty of scoring.

I think Monk is our best safest bet. I think he can give this team 13-15 points right away in the Courtney Lee role. Trade Lee for a young player or a draft pick. If we trade Melo for a draft pick, some young players, you are likely a 25 win team next year. You want some young guys that can score, and are exciting to watch develop. I tend to prefer Smith or Monk for that reason. I think they fit well with KP/Willy. Of the two, I think Smith's injury past makes Monk the wiser choice.

I really would take a chance on Frank, but with a second pick. I wouldn't use 8 on him. However if Phil takes him. I reserve judgement. Phil does the interviews and the scouting as well. He knows what players play winning basketball. My instinct just tells me give Hornachel a player like Monk, he will get freedom to score/shoot and run the wings, he will be exciting to watch and also play well under Horny. Small chance because of the Kentucky connection we keep Rose and have a really interesting backcourt of Monk/Rose with KP/Willy upfront and a young athletic two way wing from a Melo trade at 3.

He looks like he is long has decent form on his J but will be raw. Also he doesnt look like am impressive jumper or athlete. If he was at 6-5 with long arms--wed see acrobatic dunking.

Smart is a heck of a player and guy you need on a good team. Top 3 option he isn't.

Looking at Monk his numbers does not really translate into a quality player. He will have to work very hard to become a great offensive player but even then he has work to do improving his defense, rebounding, and passing.

If we can get a 2nd 1st round pick--like the Detroit one--and take Frank N and Jarrett Allen--wed have two lengthy players up the middle to help our D and both have upside on offense. Maybe you look at Frank mason for the same Patty Mills type role off the bench and a tougher athlete like Burton etc.. for 58. I think well do better if we stay away from the Monki's Smith's etc..
