Or moving Russell was simply the cost of removing Moz from their 2018 CAP so they can start chasing FAs -- maybe they will just let Lopez expire or move him at deadline.
Question is though - if PG is your FA target next year -- why not just use Russell to get him now from Pacers - unless Pacers don't like Russell either .
lonzo a laker as planned..amazing
lin can't catch a break
I doubt the Lakers are done. I see them making a few more trades

Doesn't seem like they are getting much unless they really hope to keep Lopez longer than just as a rental. I guess the Lakers just really soured on Russell and maybe they think Lopez can be their center for the next 5-6 years?
Ball,Clarkson,Ingram, Randall & Lopez. Not bad I guess.
He's going home...I'm thinking that he'll resign with them and it won't be as big of a drama as some might think.

He's played for 2 years at age 19/20. He was only 18 when drafted and 17 in college. How many kids that age would you say are good at defending at the NBA level? How much defense was James Harden or Steph Curry playing their first 2 years? You have to keep this in context. That being said I don't scout Laker games.
Heck...how much D does Harden play now...What if Russell decides to be a Harden on D?Wonder if Harden was actually a better defender as a young player?
He was, but he carried a much smaller scoring load. Plus, Houston has enough 3 and guys to cover for Harden's nonexistent defense.
Looks like Russell is a Net. I can't believe they traded another pick in the process.

Of course.....

They got the second pick in the draft from two years for Bropez and #27. I think it was a good move. Moz has a horrible deal though.

There is not a lot of difference between Wiggins, Booker, and Russell but Russell is seen as a terrible player. If the Nets did this deal for one of those two other players the masses would be praising the Nets.
I like Moz but he had an off year last year.
I think it's a pretty good deal for the Nets- yes, they gave up a pick but I like what they did.
Though, I'm surprised they couldn't get more for Lopez, especially since he really developed his game with his 3pt shooting.

its a great deal for the Nets considering they have no way of acquiring high upside young players

well according to some people here, we've got a better shot of getting a high upside player at 27 than we do at 8!
But agree - great move.
Sad to see the Nets righting their ship and getting a great GM, and we're stuck with Phil.

It's probably worth the risk to see if Russell can turn his career around but I can't help but wonder if there were better deals out there for Lopez.

You might be right. The lakers needed to move contracts for cap space. Marks might have been able to do this without moving the pick.

I have a feeling that Phil is shopping Kristaps Porzingis to them, possibly for that 2nd overall pick. I would not be surprised to see a deal expanded to include a Joakim Noah swap of the newly acquired Brook Lopez in the process. In my opinion, I think that'd be disastrous since I don't trust our ability to draft players and since Lopez would steal minutes from Hernangomez.
EnySpree wrote:Dangelo Russell is everything i hate about this generation. He's got alot of living to do. KP strikes me as the same kind of kid now especially how his Brothers are handling him. Anyway, the potential for us to have two 20pt scorers under 25 years old would be very high if we got Russell. Keep in mind that Phil is actively trying to get another 1st round pick.
I don't think Frenchy is going to be a better player than Russell. I don't think Monk will either. Unless Isaac or Tatum fall, we would be better off with Russell.
20 points? Maybe if he takes 19 shots a game. No thanks!

Yup. They're all flashy volume scorers who hurt their teams with their inefficiency. They're also all young and perhaps their games could be changed with the right guidance. They're not worth giving up anything special for, and you'd have to have low expectations for them.
Who says they soured on russell? They are making maneuvers bringing in Ball and they have clarkson.
they get a very good offensive center and still have the goods to get George and sign Lebron this year or next.
Nets get a young guard who is still coming into his own for a 28 year old center who they can't really pay going forward BEFORE he gets hurt.
Russell can now grow and have his own team and be all he can be.
Good win win for both teams.
Russell is very young. Most of us are pretty stupid at age 18, 19 and 20. He can shoot, has court vision, good size, great passer... plays no defense but this was a great job by the Nets to get talent using their cap space. Russell and Lin will be a high scoring backcourt.
This is a great move for both teams. Looking good for Magic so far. Flipping Russel for 1 of the best centers in the league is really good and now when they draft Ball they will have filled in the 2 hardest positions to fill in basketball.

Nothing wrong with what the nets did. They lost two lottery picks from the awful trade so they might as well take a chance on a former lottery pick who still has a ton of upside despite maturity issues and defensive issues. Who knows maybe a change of scenery would be good for him. He was actually my favorite prospect going into the 2015 draft
