Hear me out on this...
What this team has lacked in the last 20 years of their organization is any kind of long term vision plan for success. That's why we have been a borderline mediocre/terrible team stuck in basketball limbo for two decades! Management has always tried to win now with no clear vision for the future. The quick fix never works, as we have witnessed time and time again. It gets you absolutely nowhere.
Now in terms of having long term vision, if we look at the current landscape of the league, we are NOT winning any time soon, regardless of what we do or who we draft this year.
Golden State is set up to be champions for the next 5 years with their current roster. The Celtics, who are in our division, are a loaded team with even more assets who are only getting better. In other words, we CANNOT compete....now. So what do you do if you're a GM with vision? You acknowledge it and set up a long term plan for eventual success. Concede that it's not going to happen in the next 2-3 years.
That's where trading KP comes in. If you can get more assets--meaning a top 3 lottery pick this year, a first rounder next year and a good player, you definitely consider it. Because what you want to do is stockpile assets for the future. If it nets you an additional lottery pick this year in a loaded draft class, and an additional 1st rounder next year, how is this a crazy idea? We are not winning now, anyway!
I love KP, but I'm not going to lie, his behavior at the end of the season turned me off. Even if management sucks, you are a player in your second year who has not done or won anything in this league yet, so skipping out on exit interview meetings with a GM with multiple rings and going overseas and playing for your national team without permission is unacceptable. I'm sorry. Now...I would NOT trade him unless the deal was too good to be true, but I would not be entirely adverse to trading him like many are. It should be about the Knicks, the true rebuild and the future. It's time we start looking long term and build a proper foundation for success.
Im not souring on the kid cuz he skipped a meeting. No at 21 years old.
Thing is, KP is a bonafide NBA playeer. Draft picks are concepts of hope.
I agree with a lot of what your saying and we all good with Celtics cuz they are winning and hording.
Sixers have been hording and sucking.
Bottom line is to walk that thin line.
Phil is sly as a fox. He's asking Phoenix for Booker and # 4 (presumably Fox)for Porzingis. I betcha KP and his suddenly NY accustomed family just love the thought of moving to Phoenix. He might even pick up the phone and call phil. Let's through Melo in the deal as well that way they can be bros out West. The NY backcourt would be settled for 10 years and Billy may still get Harkless as company. Meanwhile Stephen A is congratukatinf a 21 year old kid for trying to run Phil out of town.
Phoenix reportedly turned down 4 and Booker for KP. Not sure what Phil is doing. I wish he would leave. Porzingis has been described as one of the most compliant, level headed young players ever to come into the nba. Now he is a bad apple that needs to be moved? Phil is playing a dangerous game and he is awful at the trade thing. Phil might just be worse then Isiah. He certainly is speeding in that direction.
FYE:
"Jordan Schultz: League sources say Phil Jackson wants to dump Joakim Noah’s contract as part of a #Porzingis trade. Unclear if it’s a deal-breaker. #Knicks – via Twitter"

OH MY EFFING GOD!
If he does that, how can anyone on this board continue to defend Phil?
Look, I'm ok with trading KP - but NOT to erase a mistake Phil made.
Why do we need to get rid of Noah? What FA are we going after?
Can't be real story.
Maybe PJ thinks KP might not hold up physically long term.. so trade him now while his value is high.
The Boston offer starting with #3 this year and Brooklyn's pick next year are very intriguing to start. I'm not so enamored with any of their young players as game changers though.
So basically it's KP for Josh Jackson and the rest is a crap shot.
Hate the PJ can use KP to help erase a mistake he made in signing Noah but this trade would work under the trade checker:
KP & Noah for Avery Bradley, Tyler Zeller, Jaylon Brown, 2017 #3 pick, 2018 Nets pick, 2018 Lakers pick.

There is NO WAY Ainge would do that deal. Maybe if we included our pick and he didn't include any!
Phill is asking for the moon, and then some. Which is what I like about Phil. He's not just giving players away, like out GM's in the past. And he learned from the Tyson Chandler or other trades in the past. Phil will be a good GM some day, for another team. But for now, KP is better than the 7foot dude from AZ. Lee is a good option at SG, who also plays defense. If we draft Frank at PG, then you now have a very long lineup at all 5 positions (6'5 and taller).....Plus Frank, Lee, KP are all long defenders who can also shoot. There's really no need to trade KP....Then we have the two second round picks and possible trades or purchase another 1st.
I was excited about trading KP as well.....But only for the moon. Otherwise, it ain't worth it.....KP is a budding star! Who's only getting better and better. Same with Billy. Melo is the missing link in the lineup.....Because he's built like a PF, but plays SF. If we had the young Denver and slimmer Melo, I would have no complaints. Lets hope he's slim down in the off season, ready to play more SF. Try to find a better SF in a trade later in the season.
Frank
Lee
Melo
KP
Billy
I prefer Billy to come off the bench, and replace him with a shot blocker and rebounder. Someone like NOAH....lol

Ummm, newsflash: the two worst defenders on the team this past season were named Rose and Lee. (just don't mention this around nixluva; he gets really emotional
)
Hi Bonn! another post where I'm not mentioning the DOUCHE we will not speak of... LOL

Yeah, i really looked forward to him.improving...yet again. Liked that he was a phenom 7'3 type. Thought he was a great kid. Loved his interaction with the fans. Loved his charity work. Loved how he skipped playing for his country in order to prepare to be a Knick. BUT........he misses a meeting with the crazy old mam....He is dead to me!
I love New Yorkers/Knicks fans. Ah the loyalty.
Sorry, can't do it. If Phil trades KP he proves he is the biggest jackass with the biggest ego in the NBA. (Unless he gets rid of Noah, gets the 3 pick, Brown, Crowder and Smart. And a future 1st rounder.)

I'll give you an A for effort.
I'm not really a fan of trading KP. I would like to find pieces to surround with him. I think We'll get one of those pieces at #8.
That said, if we could do the Suns deal and get Booker, Josh Jackson or whoever at 4, and Frank or whoever at 8, it could work. Having three potential keepers that are rookies at the same time could work. By the time the crappy contracts expire our nucleus would be on rookie deals. So we could add a bunch of FAs to a strong nucleus.
Again, I'm for keeping KP because he seems like the perfect big for the modern NBA. But if we could get a haul like that I would be okay with trading him
Trading KP would be the worst thing this franchise would have done in the history of the team. The ramifications would be downright criminal. From giving up on a potential franchise player to destroying whatever profile we have as a management being destroyed. Fans would be going berserk! NY loves homegrown players. From LT to Jeter to Clyde. This would be a big fuck you to the NY fan base.

I'm not in favor trying to move him, but how do you say this without knowing what is coming back in return?

I guess to me he is untradeable. Not sure if you are an LT fan but in his first 2 years in the NFL he showed a lot of promise and showed that he can be one of the best. Would you be fine if George Young traded him for multiple picks? Like say the Ricky Williams trade which netted the foreskins all of the Saints 1999 draft picks and another 1st and 3rd in the following year? I would have been pissed if they did something like that. Not saying KP is going to be LT or Jeter for the Knicks but I want to experience the ride and the possibility of winning a championship with KP. IMHO, KP is a generational talent that you just can't flip for assets that there is no guarantee of being on par with what KP gives you.

Generational talent? The people that want to trade him don't view him as that. They view him as maybe an All Star level and certainly not All NBA. Your saying he is going to be on the level of Lebron or Curry I see no evidence of that. In fact there is plenty of evidence he could end up being a 65 game a year player

Are they trading him to make the team better or because he missed a meeting?
