Interest in Nitty was all a ruse by Cuban and the Mavs for Phil to draft him, so they can take Smith, whom they wanted all along. Phil fell for it...hook, line and sinker.

They hired Ntilikina's coach. They are trying to play it off like this was the plan lol.

I'm not aligned with Phil on the "intriguing" Frenchman over explosive Smith or Monk.
WaltLongmire @ 6/22/2017 9:48 PM
You can say a lot of things about Jackson- but anyone who thinks Cuban gamed Phil on Smith is a fool. He interviewed Smith but did not work him out...not sure about everything, but I'm thinking he would have worked him out if he thought he might take him.

I have a lot of problems with how Jackson has handled things in terms of dealing with people, but I think he depends on Gaines a great deal, and I expect that Gaines gave Ntilikina a great review.

HofstraBBall @ 6/22/2017 9:50 PM
To me, he is a longer version of Grant. Something I always saw in Grant was his jittery demeanor as a point guard. Never polished. This kid looks as he will have the same issues with his outside shooting and dealing with the NY/NBA pressure. Think Smith will prove to be one of the better players in this years draft. Even Monk is an NBA ready prospect and will help any team with his outside shooting. I hope I am wrong but seems like a stretch of a pick. Was afraid of the Triangle pick. A type of pick we could have made with our 44 pick. Hope he proves me wrong.

meloshouldgo @ 6/22/2017 9:53 PM
People wanted to draft this kid after watching DRose for afull season. Just what the doctor ordered another heads down, no passing chucker with a ACL injury. Makes sense.
stanleybostitch @ 6/22/2017 9:56 PM
All you guys who are saying "whole league is laughing" at Knicks - you're buying into an anti-Phil, anti-NY, anti-Knicks bias made worse by those who feel slighted by Phil asking them to man-up and get with the program. Phil has this team on the right track - we have three young building blocks, ALL our future draft picks, and plenty of cap room. If you don't see this you're eating the tripe being fed to you by those with an agenda (or those who are just parroting others instead of thinking for themselves).

Knicks fans who buy the whole laughing-stock story are like the kids in the video (FF to the 2:06 mark).

Don't let facts get in the way.
Knicks scouted this kid for 6 months. They've all gone to see him play.
When Phil did an interview about the draft months ago he said

"I don't want a guy that can jump out of the building. I want a guy that can defend, play within a system, is a high skill player".
Also he mentioned wanting guards that can pressure the ball fullcourt.

Nti has more longterm potential than Smith. Even though Smith is a better player than him now, what this team needs is looking for is a guard that can defend and play within the system. DRose 2.0 is not we need.

FAKE NEWS? Got it. Lmao It is no secret everyone has been laughing at the Knicks for a long time. Dont need to buy in to anything but our own experience. Its already a fact. Do think Phil preffered Frank over everyone else for some time (Or Lauri). And it was Phils pick regardless. Thats easy. Smith nor Monk are Triangle guys. Frank is. Do think Cuban thinks he made it happen by putting it out there that he wanted Frank. But he is another idiot.

However, feel Smiith and Monk were best players available. Smith has a lot of talent. He was ranked higher, since a young age, than any of the top 3? Injury set him back. But he showed no signs of issues from this past year. Which was the only concern for most teams. Think he was a steal for the Mavs. But as always, we shall see!!

Stevie franchise 2.0 but hopefully a longer shelf life.
To post they "faked out" knicks, especially Gaines a highly respected scout is ignorant.

I was definitely worried about the knee with DSJ. Even more so after what happened with our failed experiment with Rose.

It is too early to tell. Give us summer league, and then some actual games.

I kind of expected the pick. The focus HAD to be defense. Also, these comparisons to Grant don't take into account that Frank in 18 and Grant was 22 or 23 years old and spent four years in college.

Lazy comparison

Reference comparison was to Dennis Smith Jr. Not Frank.

Yeah, I mean why don't teams let's ESPN do their job and makes their picks for them.

ESPN aint got shit to do with it...I watch a ton of College BB and can formulate my own opinion...On pure talent, Smith is right there with Ball and Fox IMO. I feel like we missed out on a talented prospect...

How much French league basketball do you watch?

yellowboy90 @ 6/22/2017 10:37 PM
The knicks were always linked to Frank and never showed real interest in Smith JR. Phil wanted a triangle guard and that's what he got a potential combo gut that has to put in a lot of work in as a shooter and ball handler.

Smith Jr would probably had been the 1st or second pick had not it been for a knee injury. The guy is athletic but crafty and smart. It will be terrible seeing him ball out but hopefully Frank has a good career.
