Knicks · Phil on building a system... (page 1)
“Sometimes it’s the ability for players to grow up into a system of play that they adapt to as they’re growing up as young players, and fitting into that style,” Jackson said. “A lot of the times in our college ball here, without making a lot of claims, a lot of it is about our college ball adapting to who the players are and our college game becomes more a style of what you can do offensively.“Just giving a lot of room to players just to play whatever one-on-one or whatever ability they have, whereas the European players are schooled into a system and how to fit into it.”
Phil does draft well... I think at this point the best scenario is Phil finishes out his contract, continues to add good talent and when he's gone we turn the ship over to someone who can simply deal with the people better. Although its Dolan's garden so that is most surely a pipe dream

I appreciate Phil trying to build something. And I guess he's trying to build something he knows. He's missing a coach that can be a partner, and he's not flexible enough to realize since he has no coaching tree, he needs to change, and work with, not through, Hornacek.

MEH! I see no comparison between Isiah and Phil. I actually think Phil is right about finding players that aren't TAINTED by AAU mentality and NBA Entitled lifestyle!
I actually don't think Phil's interpersonal skills are a match for the type of BIG BABY types in the NBA. Popovich, Riley, Carlisle, Thibs, Van Gundy don't mess around either. LMA is trying to get out of San Antonio. WHY?
According to a person with knowledge of the Spurs forward’s situation, it’s the 31-year-old’s unhappiness in San Antonio that is the driving force behind the Spurs’ trade talks on Thursday. The five-time All-Star, according to the person, is hopeful that San Antonio can find a better fit for his talents.https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nb...But the Spurs’ way is different, with coach Gregg Popovich less inclined to feature individual talents and Leonard’s emergence these past two seasons ensuring that he’s their epicenter. The track record is impeccable, of course, what with the Spurs having won five championships since 1999
To many of these players are too worried about their brands or having to sacrifice, than actually buying into what it takes to win.
Now as for Phil's attempts at building a culture, that hasn't been totally a failure with his teams. Mainly it's the RESISTANT mentality of a few Vets that have caused the problems. Now we'll have far fewer of those kinds of guys going forward. That may help the overall CULTURE to change.

Spot on. We are moving forward with a great foundation of youth, picks, cap, and adoption of system ball. Sprinkle in 3-5yrs and what do you get? CHAMPIONSHIP.

CHAMPIONSHIP? We can all dream
Why would Phil believe that a new GM/President wouldn't immediately hire a new coach with an entirely new system in 2 years? The team isn't close to that far along to make a case for keeping the Triangle. Doesn't sound like someone who is concerned with that fact.
The argument could be made they can adapt to other systems, but I dont believe it has anything to do with that ability, just the ability to play this one.
Trading Rolo for Rose was not a good move but it was necessary to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Incredible Sulk couldn't even take a team with two 18 point scorers one of which happens to be a top 5 rim protector, a 3 and D guy and an up and coming center to the playoffs in the Leastern conference. But yeah he is a "multiple time allstar and scoring champion" and that's what we need to focus on, because the roster is never good enough for the UltimateDiva.
If we just cut this loser from the team that would still be 5 years too late.

At the end of the day he has wasted 3 years tryinng to win Melo over. And the Knicks will pay the price for that. Then the Noah contract was a really dumb move as well. He was a 12 or 13 year vet at that point and he was he was But I disagree that he tried to put a playoff team around Melo. Maybe he tried but he missed badly with the guys he went out and got. This past year the team was lacking talent. KP's first year, the roster was much less clumsy and had a shot but Melo got hurt in the Celtic game, Fish got fired, and Rambis took over. Anyway I love where we are and I look forward to this season and the next off season sand draft. We're 2 seasons away.

I'd suggest either removing yourself from or stop caring about the social media/media bubble. It's literally in everyone's power just to make it go away, like that.
It's like the Porzingis stuff the last few days. Since absolutely nothing happened, not spending a week anxious about something happening was objectively the better choice.
What you're talking about above is effectively intangible. It literally only even exists if you let it.

LOL -A team starting Melo, Rose and KP with Lee was lacking in talent. So they couldn't make it to the playoffs in tbe East - Cant make this shit up. SMDH

True.
To counter this I suggest everyone learn to meditate.
If you think that Phil has any issues with what is going on you are mistaken.
When every stupid reporter think Phil is getting a nap, he is just meditating.
It clears your mind from all b-shit and helps to make the best decision available at the moment.
If one cannot take care about his own mind - it will kill him rather sooner that later.
Knicks will be fine but it will take a while.
It took rangers 6-7 years to get out of the starpunching hole and now they were in the cup run 9 of 10 years and get really close.
And they are loaded moving forward.
Just sit, close your eyes, take a deep breath, observe you thoughts, and let them go, don't fight.
You be in much better place in 10 min.

I know you have a handle to uphold, but would you honestly say as talented as Rose and Lee may be, either played any defense?

Yeah, if what's being written on the internet is bothering your, it's your issue, not the internet's issue. Just take a break Eny. Be sure to visit in 2072 when Phil's plan starts to pay off!

I have to turn off the radio and change the channel when ESPN is doing any coverage of the Knicks.
