Knicks · Knicks Plan: Dump Lee's Salary, Sign Jrue, Unite Brothers... (page 2)
Do not trade away a future draft pick, 1st or 2nd rounder, to erase courtney lee. Supposedly, he came here at a discount due to Noah signing, or so I have been assured by many posters here...

I want a top three pick! I do like trying to upgrade from lee I like lee as a 7th or 8 th man not a starterThey can always wait until someone is hired as GM. They can do what you said, see what Baker and Frank can do. If they arent progressing as fast as mgmt likes, they could try again at the first trade dealine.
As long as we have someone at point who knows what they're doing. Dont want them to tank, and not have anything positive come out of the season, but a draft pick who might not amount to anything. Some progress needs to be made.
I don't think they tank with baker and frank manning the point. Still think we end up with a top 5 pick. But our young core will be exciting to watch, with melo gone KP will get a taste of being the go to guy! Willy is darn good and frank is going to surprise a lot of people.
A tank? No. A growth year yes! When 2018 free agents see the beast that is KP and the potential of frank and Willy plus the number 1-3 2018 pick we are going to garner plenty of interest from top tier free agent talent.
We just need patience no more bandaids, no more mediocre talent like holiday to squeeze us into the playoffs . Let's build a contender with big time talent

I agree, KP has to show he can be the man. Knicks fans would rather cheer an underdog than overpriced retreads putting up the same numbers.
Dont want Jrue, injury concerns. I do believe that Justin is a decent two way player who has some comfort level with the team, and is worth keeping (at the right price) for the sake of continuity. He was pretty clutch during the season with critical buckets to stay in games.

For sure I like Justin as the 2 off the bench. eventually beating out lee to start, I just want to build through the draft, it's the only way I see us gathering elite talent...
Best post Phil move just happened! We resigned Ron baker!
Maybe we could even expand the deal to include Lance Thomas in exchange for Quincy Pondexter's expirer, making the deal:
Pelicans Trade: Omer Asik, Quincy Pondexter (expirer), 2018 and 2019 first round picks swaps (Knicks controlled) and 2018 and 2019 second round picks (via NOP)
Pelicans Recieve: Justin Holiday and Lance Thomas
Knicks Trade: Justin Holiday (sign and trade) and Lance Thomas
Knicks Recieve: Omer Asik, Quincy Pondexter (expirer), 2018 and 2019 first round pick swaps (Knicks controlled) and 2018 and 2019 unprotected second round picks (via NOP)

Major bullet dodged. I think he becomes the Deron Williams of this new CBA era and doesn't even honor the entire contract. It's a major reason why I hope we make a trade that can finagle the Pelicans of their first round picks moving forward. They are going to implode spectacularly this season and we should position ourselves to leverage their misery.
As for George Hill, I am concerned. The Spurs seemed to end negotiations with him and the Nets no longer seem interested in a lead-guard with D'Angelo Russell and Jeremy Lin in Brooklyn. Our only hope is if Hill re-signs with the Jazz BUT there is a very good chance that Hayward leaves, which then makes him staying there unlikely.

Yep, Hill situation is worrying me- even if jazz keep Hayward, how does it make sense to pay up for hill when they already have Rubio.
As a side note I wonder if we moved Lee we would pick up Dwade off waivers (if bulls buy him out) I'd rather do that than spend money on a multi year contract.

I actually like the idea of a Rubio-Hill backcourt. Remember that Hill played off the ball a lot with the Spurs and especially the Pacers, so I don't think it'd be any major adjustment for him. But the question is whether Hill still fancies himself being an off ball guy anymore. Personally, I see this as a move by the Jazz to brace for Hill leaving unfortunately. I'm just hoping the Sixers step in and throw big money at him to play alongside the ballhandling of Fultz and Simmons.
NOT.
Holiday staying with NOP.
Best thing for us to do is to develop young players, projects from the D league/UDFA and to sign free agents who will be willing to play a supporting veteran role to the young players.
I think Lee is a good vet for this team. He can still play. He is effective as a starter or bench player and open to both starting or bench role at this point in his career. So say if a guy like Dotson or Baker emerge and deserve minutes, Lee will sit.
Sign a guy like Holiday or keep Rose, I don't think they will be happy with a bench/less minute role at all when Ntilikina plays well. I would have gone after a Patty Mills, hard. He already signed with the Spurs.

Firstly it means we don't get a high pick next year, and secondly it means when Frank is ready to take over the reigns, we have a log jam. If you wanted to go down that route we should have drafted Monk.
They can actually play together and provide length and great defense. Hill is the perfect mentor for Frank.

But unless they can share the backcourt together, at some point Hill's value will decrease and his minutes. Then trading him and a massive contract will be tough.
Hill on a 25-30$ million a year deal is a depreciating asset. Do not go there. He also puts us in the 30-40 win window, instead of the 20-25 win window we should be looking at. We want to get a top 5 prospect next year to add to Porzingis, Willy, Ntilikina, and Dotson. If say Porzingis' camp is unhappy, we can deal him for 2 lottery picks. The goal here is to get a team of 5-6 players, all with starting or better potential who can peak together by 2019/20. Then have capspace at that point to get a star to join them,
We are on our way with KP, Willy, Ntilikina. We need to be patient, and look for no quick fixes. Noah/Rose/Melo were attempts to make a quick fix. Now that we are still looking to deal Melo, we should have zero issue with patience and a longterm approach.

Teague signed for 3 years/$57 million. If we can get Hill for that kind of money it's worth doing. He plays the game right.
Free-agent guard Jrue Holiday has agreed to a five-year, $126 million deal to stay with the New Orleans Pelicans, his agent Jason Glushon told ESPN on Saturday morning.Average $25m per year. Another bullet dodged in my opinion.
reub wrote:I guess it all depends on what other teams are offering, but I would think you could get Hill at less than what Teague got. Not sure if the shrinking PG options helps us or hurts us? If teams in the market for PGs are squared away maybe we can get Hill at a bargain price. Or if PGs are rapidly coming off the board and teams are still looking, Hill may have leverage. Not sure how this will pan out.nyknickzingis wrote:reub wrote:smackeddog wrote:How does spending big money on average PGs when we've just drafted our Pg of the future make any sense?!
