Also there is no good tax plan where everyone doesn't get a benefit. Where this plan helps is it puts more money in the pockets of those families earning less than 70k. Dont you think that someone making 68k a year with a wife and two children could use an additional 1400$? And then save another 200-400 on tax preparation each year?

Click here to view the TweetPuerto Rico was a dangling disaster of its own mismanagement. The island sled into deep financial despair through mismanagement and their infrastructure was crumbling and dated. They had ten+ days to bring in as much water and food that they could--they ran behind on it. We cant be selective and say the government did a sht job in Puerto Rico--yet say nothing about the great job we did in Florida and Texas? Thats hypocrisy right? Puerto Rico is a nightmare and it was ravaged by a 100 year storm--at the end of the day I think the US has given its all through 3 massive disasters--to try and hold people accountable for Puerto Rico is insane--no one caused the hurricane or the absolute logistical nightmare. The whole country needs to be rebuilt anyway--while there is some short term suffering--it may end up in their best benefit long term.
You really are something else! We have every right to hold this Administration accountable for EVERYTHING they do. You don't get brownie points for some disaster responses done OK and we just ignore the BIGGEST one being mishandled.
They KNEW this Hurricane was coming and where it was likely to hit. They should've been prepared to get as much help in there as possible as soon as possible. Stop making excuses for messing up!!!
Also stop victim shaming PR! Houston has its own issues with poor city planning and they still deserved all the help they got cuz they're CITIZENS just like PR! F is wrong with you 😡

I dont mid having conversations and debate--but Nixluva is beyond approach. The US has done a good job with 3 disasters in a row--thats the reality. Puerto Rico is an island that logistically is not the same as the mainland US. I think the U government and its people have tried very very hard against very difficult consecutive circumstance. Its insane sitting back and listening to some of this stuff.

You think I'M Beyond Approach? Bruh I'm firmly grounded in fact and reality. You're slurping up the Trump Administration BS about their efforts in PR! Yes it's a much harder task aiding PR but they had AMPLE warning and time to prepare for a faster and more sufficient response. We have the resources and military to have done a better job responding.

It went from a cat 1 to a cat 5 in 12 hours Nixluva. It was aggressive and quick--only the facts nixluva The other hurricanes developed over a much longer period of time. How does the uS react to a storm that changes in 12 hours like that? You're reading anti Trump stuff. Just read articles that have no bias.
BRIGGS wrote:This is great news--I like to hear this news. One big reason why I liked Trump is that he wanted to have better relations with Russia which made tremendous sense. Realistically they are our #1 geo-political foe and by far the most serious military threat. What better way to quell unpleasantness between our nation's then to find common ground to work together. An alliance with Russia could stop mass proliferation of WMD. No reason we have to be overly hawkish with Russia. Stop the voting nonsense and move on.
Russia is a great country which once again took the wrong turn in governance.
They are lead by gang of criminals, secret services, and post-Soviet bureaucrats.
All this "projects" unfortunately have only one goal to snatch more money from Russian people to add more to about trillion dollars already stolen and moved into world banking systems.
This money now are under assault from US special services so watch for Putin and Co to go at any length to guaranty this money will still belong to them.
We will have very friendly Russia very soon...

BRIGGS, I am getting tired of your participation at this point. If you like to bring facts and an informed presence, please do. You have not. Consistently.
Fact is, on Monday AM, the storm was category 5 and hitting other areas before Puerto Rico - US Virgin Islands. The fact that it went from 1 to 5 in 12 hours has no bearing on the prep the US could and should have done for our citizens.
Do you know when the storm hit San Juan? Wednesday. The US approved an emergency declaration for the Virgin Islands on Monday, giving FEMA the go-ahead to coordinate disaster relief efforts there. The US knew Puerto Rico was in direct line 48 hours later.
Your BS about going from a 1 to 5 is utterly useless information and has nothing to do with anything. The pure nature of hurricanes is that they show up unexpectedly.
Those are the facts.

America is the land of limitless opportunity for all, I've been told. Instead of looking for a handout from the government, people who want an extra $1400 should $72k a year instead of $70k. Or better yet, $100k.
There is nothing stopping them, right?

C'mon Martin, he regularly spews outright racist crap around here, maybe most offensive of all just a few pages back telling black people on this forum they've never experienced racism and they all have it easy. And what draws your ire is he's misinformed (which he always is) about hurricanes?
That's disappointing.

What are you talking about Martin? Exactly what dont you believe about the US doing the best job they could with 3 disasters? Wheres your article explaining the logistics nightmare of Puerto Rico --wheres your facts? And that is a communistic post--what "fact" do I have wrong here --I posted a URL --this country was over extended and did the best they could. Read about Fema--they did NOT anticipate fast enough how bad this would be--read instead of spewing. I read before I post.

You wrote about a hurricane going from 1 to 5 in 12 hours. Nothing else.
That does not address anything about preparedness or make a comparison as to how we engaged Puerto Rico or how well the recovery is going or being handled compared to other disasters.
You state without any background, information or experience about how things were addressed but you state that everything is going well.
Your link provides ZERO information about the recovery.

i've read a lot of great posts in this thread (you're in that group) and i've read a lot of bad ones (i won't name names) but honestly, i think this thread is a poor outlet at this point. don't see what good it's doing for anyone, it's pretty much just turned into a fingerprinting of "who's racist and who's not" which was not the intent. just my humble opinion.

You're right at the moment I don't. My parents were on food stamps growing up, but I've been financially secure for over decade now. And despite my background the thing that you and I have in common is neither of us have a clue what it's like to be and grow up Black in America.
