Knicks · Trading Willy (page 2)

And if you think you can fetch a 1st round pick, it will be very late in the 1st round. What are the chances of getting someone better than Willy at the end of the 1st round? He's more valuable to us keeping him.
KOQ is likely to be traded for purposes of discussion, what might the effect going forward to trade Willy should Enes be a better fit with KP?The true need at this time is an athletic 3 but one with potential star power. This is not obtained via trade, its thru the draft.
And, other needs are not apparent because we need to see who can do what, and give the objective "grow our own" time to actually happen.
We as fans see a need and offer our suggestions on how to plug it up. Fact is the process of players committing to getting better, we actually giving them room to grow is and creating an environment to do that is what this team is about. That what the melo trade was about. We cut back mature limbs on a tree to allow younger trees and limbs to grow.
we need to see what Noah brings and if he can return to form he can be a major force for a competing team. Noah will get minutes and an opportunity to play. Willy is a bonafide prospect. This is not something that needs to be addressed right away but will be interesting to follow.

In the 1980-90's Willy and KOQ would be the Knicks PF (Oakley/Mason), plus Noah and Kanter would be centers, KP would be a injury backup center sitting on the bench each season trying to be as good as Pacers Ric Smits.
The Knicks last best center and PF were not Ewing & Oakley .. It were Bill Cartwright and Toby Knight .. before them it were Reed & DeBusschere

Phil was never serious.
When he asked for 2 young starters, a lottery pick and a future pick, you know he wasn't serious. I mean honestly, even now, if we had gotten that package, I would be ok with it.

If Willy does not return much, then is he really a good prospects, or is it just our little UK secret?
The point of this thread was......
WE HAVE CHOICES AND ITS NOT "TRADE WILLY" ITS WHO WE WOULD get in return!!!!
You think if we are logjam at the position because other guys are playing better and the team is better, you think that KP would rather Willy sit on the bench or Start somewhere and make big money?
What kind of friend is that?
If we can get a top prospect at the 3, with willy and other assets to make that happen, and the team is better, you really think KP would be that much of a bitch and sulk?
KP flexed his muscle and is now this is HIS team!!! Its not about friendship, its a freaking business too!
Nobody but KP is really untouchable.

You decided this on a one year player? He can't get better or be an adequate defender?
I am also eager to see what Kanter brings but I am amazed how Knicks fans always fall in love with the shiny new thing. Willy is a perfectly capable of putting up numbers and get did so in an offense where he was the afterthought with two dominant ball hogs and à unicorn. Kanter provides zero upgrade on defense over Billy and Billy is homegrown talent who will be on a reasonable salary for a long time.

Yes I do. Skipping the exit interview would be the tip of the iceberg...

+1
KP, Will and Kanter is a three headed monster at the big man position backed up by Noah and OQuinn. This is a strength.
Let it play out and see what teams start to offer. Always deal from a position of strength.
We are really fortunate to be in a position where we have 2 guys under 25 for the center position with that 7 foot size and big scoring potential. After Ewing, we basically had a whole decade of playing 6'7"-6'9" guys at the position.
VDesai wrote:They should go at it this with both players. Neither has completely proven themselves yet, and in reality both can potentially be assets. I think you'll probably see some combination of backups at the 4 spot - a big lineup where Kanter or Willy slide over or smaller lineup where Beasley plays the 4. Im not itching to move either till they play together for at least 40-50 games and we start to get an idea of what we have here.great post. We have these guys. Lets get them out there and evaluate. First off I have not decided anything. I always say it will be sorted out on the court.
But if Boston offered me Tatum (im not saying they would, just a concept) because they value Willy as a vital cog to winning a chip, then we get a young player we can also grow as our own.
Really, the fact is the inclusion of Kanter is quite good if you take Noah out of the equation. It falls in with a young core that can still grow.
No doubt Willy can and should improve. If this is seen by both the knicks and any team falling over themselves to trade for him then that is factored in.
The assumption is we sell willy cheap and get a 31 year old player at his peak with a knee problem. Not my assumption.
My true hope is Noah is a beast and tradable to a contender. LEt the young guys grow. That is my first preference.
