Word to big bird!
Chandler @ 11/25/2017 11:03 PM
I like Willy and hope this but a funk/rut

But when I see him jogging half hearted to keep pace w 35 year old nene to result in a dunk I want to send him to the showers on his way back to Spain. That just Cant happen. When you want more minutes you can't be out hustled by 35 yr old nene

yeah agreed, dude plays with little fire and desire and didn't show up with the intensity.

I'll put some of this on Willy
Most of it on Knicks management
Somehow they took a first team all rookie player on what was a rebuilding team-- benched him and drove his confidence into the ground. The player is behind many guys in terms of playing reps-- and psychologically he's shot.

You are discribing a soft player... if this is the case then he needs to go else where.

Weak, terribly weak excuse-making for Willy.

Did they tell him to not run back on D? Play with zero intensity? Not rotate?

Give me a break

time to take willy out back and shoot him. he's done.

Could have easily claimed the starters spot. He actually looks fat.

The Knicks coaching staff killed his flow and rhythm. That's true. They sort of did to him what the Sixers did with Okafor. However, the other side is like Okafor, Willy is only focused on playing a certain way and while he can wow you with his skills on offense, the coaching staff made it clear to them that this year they wanted better effort on defense and more cutting to the basket. We're not seeing that from Willy.

Love the guy and hate this situation. Hope he gets it back in track. I also think they are making a big mistake not playing Willy with KP. KP and Willy complement each other very well. We have to trade O'Quinn and get minutes free up for Noah and Willy. When Willy doesn't play hard enough, you go with Noah. Kanter is a must re-sign and a core player.

So he makes all rookie team, makes a low salary, plays behind Kanter and KOQ and plays sparingly. He is with us for 2 years contractually. You think he’s valuable enough to secure Brogden ROy but that he soft and sucks. Which is it? Make up your mind. I agree with someone who understands that his confidence has been slayed under Horny. If your wish comes true (and it won’t be for Brogden), remember when he ends up being a bona Fide player out west.

Nalod @ 11/26/2017 8:53 AM
HOw do most of you know what’s wrong with hm this year?
Perhaps its “I made all rookie year, I played for national team, that’s got me in shape, I’ll start or come off the bench when Noah returns”...........Others like KP TRAINED and honed SKILLS!!!
Maybe Willy wanted to enjoy his summer.

Briggs has to cover his tracks. we all remember those posts this summer where he said the Knicks should be keeping wily over kp

I agree with you both here, although I really don't want any part of Noah whatsoever--only in some emergency.

Willy was a dude almost everyone considered a 1st round pick by season's end last year if the draft had been done over. Now he's a complete afterthought? Could the effort level be a little better? Perhaps, although maybe he's just severely behind other players which may be making confusion look like a lack of effort. I know this: you get this kid up to speed, he's a skiiled asset. No question in my mind. I know what I've seen. Kind of like a mini Enes Kanter. I hate to see his development stalled for the time being.

JH outright punks Kanter early in the 1st if he gives up some easy buckets. When he gets back in the game his D is on fire. THAT’s the kind of player toughness and heart we want. JH has seen all this same stuff in scrimmages, which is why he hasn’t put him in much. At least he was nice enough to say, “he’s close”, when clearly he’s not.

I agree with this. The same player was first round worthy last year and now he is garbage. I think he has been put in a horrible situation by inept management. But there's no excuse four him not putting in the effort when he is on the floor either.

i am not sure where inept management comes into play here. If you are talking about the Noah contract I would agree that that deal was really bad. If you are talking about the Melo trade, I think Perry/Mills did really well with what they got back. Willy was outplayed and out worked by Kanter and KOQ. That is on him.

How is it "Knicks Management"? Can't even blame Phil for brow beathing him down? No, this is on willy, a more competitive roster, and a coach who has choices.
Now does that mean we get ride of him?
Why is it when player drops we need to trade him. Likewise when his "Stock is up" some how 29 other teams are clueless and are not in on the scheme!!!

Willy needs to talk with THjr and understand that the talent is there, but the body has to also. Marc Gasol got awesome when he committed.
Talent is one thing, but the drive and desire to get the body "right" is not easy task unless you genetically gifted.

reub @ 11/26/2017 12:24 PM
Willy can work through this. He's down because of his role at the end of the bench. He felt entitled after a decent first year. He hangs with KP and the Gasol brothers plus Doncic. He just needs a fire lit under his ass. But I like his talent level and game.
martin @ 11/26/2017 12:29 PM
We obviously haven't seen much from Willy this year but I still can't see 1 thing that has changed about this body or what he is doing on the court.

With KP it was instantly obvious.
