We obviously haven't seen much from Willy this year but I still can't see 1 thing that has changed about this body or what he is doing on the court.
With KP it was instantly obvious.

You can fake it. At some point you have to look at these players as men. Either you have it or you don't. You can wait for guys to develop skill but not pride.

Yeah he's been terrible in those 100 minutes - much worse than I could have imagined and almost as bad as TH JR was. I didn't say otherwise.

Perhaps, although maybe he's just severely behind other players which may be making confusion look like a lack of effort. I know this: you get this kid up to speed, he's a skiiled asset. No question in my mind. I know what I've seen. Kind of like a mini Enes Kanter. I hate to see his development stalled for the time being.
I agree with this. The same player was first round worthy last year and now he is garbage. I think he has been put in a horrible situation by inept management. But there's no excuse four him not putting in the effort when he is on the floor either.

If you are talking about the Melo trade, I think Perry/Mills did really well with what they got back. Willy was outplayed and out worked by Kanter and KOQ. That is on him.
I have to go a different way with this .. Willy raw just like Okafor, just like KP, their raw skills are best at the PF position. Example: we did not want to trade Melo for Ryan Anderson big contract, if we did trade for Anderson the Knicks coaching-staff would have put Anderson as a center. Head coach Dantoni coaching staff makes sure Dantoni never use Anderson as a center. Anderson is a natural PF who plays best having a center in the lineup with him (Capela or Nene).
7.3 KP is not a center! The 3-15 Hawks proved that in the 2nd half of Friday night game.
We seen how WEAK we were several times having KP n Melo as our Bigs in the lineup the past two seasons.
KP need Kanter in the lineup with him to be effective on both sides of the court.
Willy is young and raw to the NBA, Willy has perimeter skills as well as low post skills that need to be refine in practice and on the court having another bigman in the lineup other than Mcderm or Lance.
A teammate like Noah could help Willy refine his bigman performance when tandem in the same lineup.
When u think of Noah .. recall Noah Gasol and Butler in the lineup taking ballhog D.Rose to the playoffs.
Now think of Noah Willy and Mcderm in a front court lineup .. Yes, Noah's front court leadership would make their lineup outscore opponents better than Kanter KP and Cee or THJ

Yeah we all know you need to get your digs in on Phil. But no out had nothing to do with whatI wrote. Any management that creates a roster with a gaping hole in one position and 5 rotation players in another is showing a certain level of ineptitude.

You are talking about a management team that inherited a player that needed to be traded with the most difficult contract to trade in the league. Getting Kanter back in that deal was a big plus in my opinion. The fact that the previous administration had 3 centers under contract including Noah's deal is on the previous administration. Kanter was the prize of the trade so far. He is much better than Willy, KOQ, and broke down Noah. Are you suggesting that a better deal was out there for the situation Perry/Mills were in? Should a bad deal have been done to preserve Willy's minutes?

You sound like a Stan. Frank is already on the bench. The player getting pushed out the rotation is Jack in this scenerio.
Only losers over pay players just to keep them. Kanter week get what he's worth. If that fits our plans then fine. Life goes on. It's all about making the Knicks better.

If we put Porzingis second year version in the same spot, he wouldn't look great either.
KP neither looked much stronger or much better last year. Being forced to sit out on the perimeter with Melo/Rose dominating the ball, Porzingis looked like he had stalled.
Then he had this offseason and a big jump. New situation with more freedom. Willy hasn't gotten the same opportunities as last year, that would definitely help.
You usually see that jump in the third or fourth year, not the second. I wouldn't say this is Willy's peak or this is who he is right now.
I'm not upset that he hasn't improved dramatically over the summer. What I'm upset about is that he isn't giving the effort despite it being made clear that it what they want from the 5 man. They want the 5 man to play with a high motor even in shorter minutes. Willy is not catching on to this theme. All of the rest, Kanter-O'Quinn and even Noah will play with a high motor. Willy needs to see this and play with a more dedicated desire to run the floor, play defense (Kanter doesn't always play great D but he tries and moves his feet) and do what the coaches want.
One Xs Os thing though. Willy should get all his minutes with KP. KP opens up the floor for the team. We should be running many minutes where Willy, KP, THJ, Dotson and Frank are in the lineup having a stretch in each half of the game together. Especially on the road, where we lose most of our games anyway.

Or he can just train with whoever KP trained with, as long as it isn't anyone associated with the knick training staff, because they are famous for having their 2nd yr players comeback looking like trash. Thats why they always get traded. Even Kp was on the verge until phil got fired

Willy was with the Gasol brothers in Spain. I hope they were schooling him and not just enabling him.
