Knicks · Do we still sign KD if he doesn't play in the Finals and he tore his calf muscle? (page 4)

Can't believe there are so many articles, teammates and fans saying KD can/should play--you have no idea how severe his injury. Stuff like that is what turned Kawhi against the spurs
He should play his team needs him. As for severity everyone has their thresholds for pain. It’s been over a month now and strained muscles. Willis F’ing Reed came out the tunnel for his team.
He shouldn't risk his career and long term health--go ask grant Hill. These same people saying he should return despite having no idea as to the severity of his injury, are the same people who a week ago were saying they're a better team without him
. . . and kevin mchale.
I’m sorry I may be coming off as rude or insensitive but they get paid to play with guaranteed contracts. Injuries are freaky and it can happen anytime. It can happen in college or high school. Truth be told KD is financially set for this lifetime and beyond. As for Thomas and Hill they are well paid and like I said injuries are freaky can happen when ever. I don’t get the bubble wrap treatment especially for a strained muscle that has had well over a month to heal. For every Hill and Isaiah Thomas there the Jordan and The Isiah Thomas of Pistons.
so, if you were in his position: you're saying you would play?
I would play knowing I have a chance at a third championship. Michael Jordan would have played. LeBron would play. Scottie Pippen would have played. I question KD I question his will to want to win. I question him because he isn’t even sitting on the bench. There is a lot more going on with KD and GS than meets the eyes. It looks like his agent is making the call if he plays or not.
I'd rather take the $140mil and 4 more years of my career - if he re-signed with the warriors he'd have 4 more shots at a ring
Then you don’t love the game anymore.
maybe he loves his family and the unborn generations more than basketball. I don't fault you for playing but if I'm being real with myself, I would protect the generations. KD isn't going to be considered greater than LeBron, forget Jordan, so I would only go if I was ready. Also, I am not talking about yanking myself if I'm 85% like Jeremy Lin
This is the finals had ample amount of time to recover from a strained anything. KD isn’t cherishing the championship in my mind. I’m not say anyone of you guys are wrong. There are circumstances when I wouldn’t want a player to play if injured but I don’t think KD’s is a circumstance I agree with. He should have been back with his team and he should have been on the bench with them. The love of the game. KD is worried about money now so winning no longer a must.
Well, in he came. And there he went. I guess he just not as tough as Vmart.
Like I told you injuries are freaky and they could happen whenever. At least now you know he is damaged goods. Will fit right in with the Knicks.
Omg dude, are you even human? Wtf
Durant needed to play. It was for the psychological effects. This was Willis Reed like performance by KD.

This...He saved that franchise...If he didnt sign with them, I think the Cavs beat them in the finals, probably both times.

At max? You'd be insane. Look at how that achilles injury changed guys like DeMarcus Cousins, Kobe Bryant and Elton Brand. If it is a tear, he'd have to come at a considerable discount. And even then, I'd feel we'd be better suited saving that money to pursue something with Giannis Antetokounmpo in 2 seasons.

KD dream is over, makes no sense for him to move to NY now that he's going to be a diminished player. Wisest decision for him and his career is to re-sign the full max with GS and have their medical team fired.

I agree. The only right thing for the Warriors to do after they messed up this badly is to sign him to a full max contract.
jskinny35 wrote:If I were him, I would pick up the GS option for the 1 year and rehab all season. Hopefully he can play a little toward the end of next season as he becomes a free agent. GS should not complain as he clearly sacrificed for the team when he could have played it safe. Worst thing for him would be to come to the NY media and get hounded every 2 weeks about when he's ready to play again.
Seems like these players always come out on the short end when they give it all for the team. Isaiah Thomas with the Celtics got screwed when he played injured. Grant Hill tore up his ankle playing injured for the Pistons and when he got to the Magic had to go through several ankle operations.

One can only hope. I'm still worried that management is so desperate to make a splash, that they sign Durant and hope for the best. It's what the Sixers did when they got Elton Brand and he was almost immediately put on the tradeblock after the ink dried. Rumor was that they were even willing to give up the no.2 pick in the 2010 draft (Evan Turner) just to dump that contract. So let's not repeat the Sixers' mistake.
I wouldn't even want to play the performance-incentive game with Durant because he's a mercurial player as it is and could threaten to become a distraction to whatever we're doing/building. He and the NY media would be too combustible a situation under duress.

The problem isn't the Warriors. The problem is and always has been KD. He's too mentally-weak and that weakness clouded his judgment. Because at the end of the day, no one can force him to play. But he was so concerned with his image, legacy and what people might say that he allowed himself to be compromised.
I suppose in the worst case they do sign KD to a max - he'll be here alone as Kyrie or others probably won't want to team up with him if he's not going to be on the court for the next season. It may also mean no AD trade and we may stick with our young guys and try to develop them. Maybe this becomes a blessing in diguise for the Knicks, although I feel pretty bad for KD and hope the Warriors do him right when he becomes a free agent!

Impressive, I didn’t know you worked for the Warriors and had all that insight. Or is it that you can read Durant’s mind? Otherwise it makes no sense to declare your opinion as a fact on things you weren’t a witness of.

...so if Durant didn't want to play, you think the Warriors could somehow compell him to? Have you been paying attention to this league? Or even this franchise? Jeremy Lin, as a Knick, made it public that he was about 85% healthy during the 2012 playoffs but elected not to play a single game to protect himself. It might have helped create some of the bad blood he encountered in negotiations with the team during free agency but when you're as good as Durant has been, teams are more accommodating of past ills (see Dan Gilbert making nice with LeBron in 2014).

Durant wanting to play is not the issue here. The reason why he might have wanted to play is also not the issue. Good teams should save the players from themselves. The Warriors did this exact thing for Klay in Game 3. They failed to do the same for KD with a more severe injury. I personally think it was an minor Achilles injury from the start. All the signs were there but people took the Warriors word for it when they said Calf injury because the organization is respected.
