Knicks · KP Trade - Would you still do it now? (page 1)

MS @ 6/11/2019 1:26 PM
Think about it for a moment. The fight the allegations, his brother, I know he was a little bit of a diva. But, where are we now?

In the span of one game, the entire Knicks future evaporated. No one is going to sacrifice a year to play for the Knicks, especially while KD rehabs his injury. That's arguably one of the worst achilles tears I have ever seen and who knows when he comes back. It's a year and half timetable at minimum.

The return we got was minimal, DSJR looks lost, the picks are tradeable yes, valuable maybe, but THJR was easily flipped for Matthews and Lee could have been moved with Frank this summer if and when we had assurances that a free agent would sign.

Kyrie is going to choose Brooklyn? If we fall to get Kawhi this summer, NY doesn't appear on the NBA landscape for the forseeable future.

It just seems the hope and a prayer that we opened up cap space for will be another pipe dream. I would be feeling a whole lot better with Barrett, Knox, KP, Mitch coming into the season. He wasn't going to Europe this season and you could have traded him for more midseason.

I know I am probably in the minority, but hard to be positive with the way things are shaping up.

NardDogNation @ 6/11/2019 1:28 PM
Yes. I wouldn't want him at max for 5 years with his injury history and drama. The only regret I have is not being able to also dump Joakim Noah in that deal.
Sambakick @ 6/11/2019 1:31 PM
It was a trade that always required Knicks fans to be patient and use their imaginations.....

Ohhh what if we get KD and KYRIE!

The trade returned HOPE more than assets.

Now HOPE is gone.

What is left? Good question.

Using our cap space for future draft picks? That's never been how the Knicks operate. That's not going to work for salespeople in the garden.

SupremeCommander @ 6/11/2019 1:35 PM
yes. KP and his brother demanded a trade and we got the best yield we could without the story blowing up. and if we had waited until then what type of offers are we looking at? He didn't want to be here, get over it, move on

That trade gave us the tools we need to trade for a disgruntled star. I actually think we have the best shot at Anthony Davis now who has always been a better play to KP.

I admit that what i'm about to type here is with the benefit of 20/20 hindsight but; just call his bluff.

The NBA and probably FIBA would force KP to honor his Knicks deal.

All-in for AD. Shades of Amare/Carmelo team construction. AD is better than either of them were. But we waste a year of AD, or do a panic deal at the deadline for his Carmelo. Same old situation.

I don't disagree with that notion but once KP and that bitch named Janis started acting like they've arrived... yeah, no thanks. I'm good with what we got and he can be Dallas' rapey barfighting problem

Then why did he said after the trade that he was surprised? We still haven't heard KP version of what happened

Every day of the week I make that trade and twice on Tuesday...

No offense but this post is like breaking up with your girlfriend who was a Brazilian supermodel but treated you like crap...finally you say to yourself that I am going to cut her loose and at that time you also meet someone else. Not the supermodel type, but still good. Now you have the cajones to cut that b*tch off.

THEN....the chick that you recently met dumps you and you see your Brazilian model EX with some new guy then you start questioning whether you should have just stayed and put up with the crap because quite frankly..SHE IS A BRAZILIAN SUPERMODEL....

The moral of the story is...she was treating you like crap before you met the other chick and just cause the other chick dumped you should not have you running back...

KP did not want to be here period....also his health was in question as well and dealing with a piss pore attitutde and his brother was too much....the MFer played like a superstar for 20-25 games last year and then blew out his knew but wants the LeBron treatment....good riddence as far as I am concerned...

Look...the Brazilian chick(KP) treated you like $hit..your new chick dumped you(KD/Kyrie).....fact is that you keep it moving and try not to read Victoria Secrets mags....

You'll be aight...

Not even close to the same situation. The difference here is that we'd have $70-$80 million to build a team with. That's about 70% of most teams' payroll. If you can't put a winner around a guy as talented as AD with that type of money at your disposal, you're not good enough to be a NBA executive.

smackeddog @ 6/11/2019 2:03 PM
Yes, we got 2 picks and with the cap space we could get even more picks this offseason

+1000...He didn't want to be here! Plus, we now have assets and ample cap space!

Vmart @ 6/11/2019 2:26 PM
The best route to take is strength in numbers. Add good players and keep drafting and developing. I’m not a fan of giving out Max contracts until a player comes along that deserves it. Khawhi is the max contract to give out. KD might be worth the risk. But that is about it adding AD in trade depletes the team the Knicks still would need more talent to compete so adding AD is not guarantee to winning.

Don't agree with the bolded statement. Dallas only took THJ time get KP. No way they trade Wesley's expiring deal for THJ. Also, Lee just wasn't as valuable as many of us thought. I thought he would be easily movable. But we've been trying to move him for 2 seasons now. I don't think teanlms were willing to help us out unless we add a protected first as a sweetner. Look what the Nets had to add to get rid of Crabbe.
I'm good with the deal. Even with, our cap space would've limited how much we could do to bolster our youth movement. Also, off the court drama aside, how many of us were confident in KP's ability to shoulder the burden of carrying us over the course of an 82 game season. Maxing out KP was almost as big of a gamble as trading him.

silence is acceptance in every other walk of life

fishmike @ 6/11/2019 3:10 PM
it wasnt up to us. There is no woulda coulda... the only debate is could we have made a better deal.

In a vacuum I would most certainly NOT do that trade. I would love to have a frontline of KP/Mitch, you have Timmy/Dotson/Frank/Trier/Knox/Kornet, you have a top 3 pick you can draft a stud and you have cap space we would likely overspend for PG help... maybe Rubio, hopefully Kemba or Kyrie.

All that is mental masturbation at this point. KP forced a trade so the only question is if the Knicks made the best trade.

I am pretty happy with how they are set up. They need to execute now so time will tell

Chandler @ 6/11/2019 3:13 PM
Not trying to nitpick but I think KP wanted to be in NY. What he didn't want was the dysfunction he was (rightfully) seeing in FO and CS. If we were losing but players were defending and passing and generally the team seemed to have a philosophy things may have been different. I think the issue is was KP wasn't buying what the team was selling, and I have come to the conclusion that the team was not totally buying what KP was selling (he was at least trending to prima donna if not there yet) All I can say is that I have to believe in a functional franchise things would have evolved soooo differently

Having said all of that, if the reports are true with KP making whatever demands etc, then there's no looking back you have to trade him for the best deal you can get. KP was trying to pull a Lebron getting coaches and even GMs fired.

ekstarks94 @ 6/11/2019 3:20 PM
We got the best deal given the circumstances...had Perry & Mills held a league wide auction..similar to what Phil tried to do the night of the draft....they would not get a better deal. No team is trading 2 first and taking back $50 mill in salary for a 7-3 player with an ACL....
Nalod @ 6/11/2019 6:05 PM
I'm banging the Brazilian supermodel for as long as she lets me. Good point, it might get ugly.
So with the cap space im banging instead not one supermodel but a few good catalog models. Not supermodels but swim ware, maybe some yoga pant goddesses? Not a bad alternative. In fact, I might be happier.

Yeah...but if you are trying keep up with the Jones(Nets, LA teams, etc), they got supermodels..all flavors....and a catalog model is just not cutting it when you all go to dinner.

You are feeling that heat to keep up....yeah you have harem of catalog models....but they are not on the Victoria Secrets runway while your friends are living it up...

My point is...it is very difficult not to want to grow crawling to your EX or spending your wad on another supermodel that treats you even worse..

Intestinal fortitude you have to have...

If you are cool with the catalog model...cool...beauty is in the eye of the beholder...just do not pick up any Victoria Secrets mags
