Knicks · Contracts to absorb (page 1)

ankurk @ 6/14/2019 6:12 PM
We suck with being mediocre but the 2021 FA class features: Giannis, Lillard, Beal, AD, McCollum, PG13
With that in mind, we would still have RJ, Knox, Mitch under team options

Listed are massive contracts for crappy players that I believe we should target, acquire, and cut.
Miami is looking to create space to be able to sign jimmy butler. A deal to acquire 12th overall for Anderson and a future protected pick would be great. Let Anderson expire and if no great free agents try the same strategy again. Stockpiling young talent and draft picks until then. Allow time for RJ, Knox, Mitch and rest to improve their games. This season looks like it'll be about improving the youth again why not burn the salary cap on potentially Anderson, Biyombo, and Turner? Get 12,13,25 and whatever else we can hustle out of teams.

I would not be upset ending june 20th with RJ, Sekou, Brandon Clarke, and whoever falls to 25

Heat
Ryan Anderson -21 mil (1 year)
James Johnson - 16 mil (2nd year PO)
Available picks - 2019 13th overall - through 2025 1st round picks with the exception of 2021

Hornets
Biyombo - 18 mil (1 year)
Marwin Williams - 15 mil (2 years)
Batum - 27 mil (2 years)
Available picks - 2019 12th - through 2025 1st round picks

Wizards
Ian Mahimi - 15 mil (1 year)
Available picks - 2019 9th overall - through 2025 all 1st round picks

Trailblazers
Evan Turner - 18 mil (1 year)
Available picks - 2019 25th overall - through 2025 1st round picks

Detroit
Reggie Jackson - 18 mil (1 year)
Available picks - 2019 15th overall - through 2025 1st round picks

Cleveland
Brandon Knight - 15 mil (1 year)
Tristan Thompson - 18 mil (1 year)
Available picks - 2019 5th, 25th, - through 2025 1st rounders are complicated

SIGN KD, then with the second half absorb contract in exchange for some first rounders, like Wizards
Knicksfan @ 6/15/2019 8:25 PM
This is the way to go, absorbing contracts from teams that want to open space to sign a player this offseason and are willing to trade a pick to do so.

This offseason is a bust in terms of signing stars. Don’t sign KD. Try with Kawhi but with him poised to go to the Clippers, use the space to take contracts for next season and ask for picks. Select good talent and go to war with the youngsters. Keep improving the talent from within until in a future offseason you get a chance to possibly get a star.

But please, enough with the KD nonsense.

anrst @ 6/15/2019 8:38 PM
NO KD

And you absorb these bad contracts, some of these vets can actually be valuable role models for our very young kids so they have on court and locker room value plus the picks that would be attached to them.

Think log term

This. I thought the Nets did a great job getting DeMarre Carroll. Atkinson loved Carroll and there were rumors that Atkinson didn't want him traded if there was an offer of a future asset at the deadline for him.
StarksEwing1 @ 6/15/2019 9:17 PM
Agreed I think it’s a good idea. Take some contracts(for one year)and keep collecting first round picks
NardDogNation @ 6/18/2019 10:00 PM
What about this three team trade involving us, the Blazers and the Hornets?

Have the Blazers send Meyers Leonard ($11.2 million), Skal Labesserie and the 25th pick to the Hornets for ~$15 million in cap savings.

The Hornets then send Michael Kidd Gilchrist ($13 million), Bismack Biyombo ($17 million) and the 12th pick to the Knicks for $20 million in cap savings.

The West has never been more open and I could see the Blazers trying to free money up to add to their core or to simply save on their luxury tax bill. They've had to pay it for several seasons and I could see them trying to trim some fat to make the team more appealing to a buyer, now that Paul Allen is dead.

As for the Hornets, if they plan on keeping Kemba, they'll have to offload money as well. Labesserie and the 25th pick at least stems the blow from losing a lottery pick but I doubt they'd even want it. With Kemba, they'd be in win now mode and a lottery pick in this draft does very little toward furthering that end. I doubt they'd even have the playing time to develop a player; if their handling of Malik Monk is any sign if things to come for their youth.

If we were to somehow acquire Michael Kidd Gilchrist and that 12th pick, is their a possibility of flipping it to the Bulls for the 7th pick and the $16 million left on Cristano Felicio's contract?

NardDogNation @ 6/18/2019 10:11 PM
....and if something like that works, can we re-route Dennis Smith Jr ($5 million) and Cristano Felicio ($8 million) to the Heat for Goran Dragic ($20 million), Hasan Whiteside ($27 million) and their 13th pick?

My wetdream (provided the Pelican do move up to get Barrett) is to draft Ja Morant (3rd), Jarret Culver (7th) and TBD (13th)

NardDogNation @ 6/18/2019 10:22 PM
....oh you thought this was a game? You ain't in Kansas anymore motherfucka....

The Suns have been desperate for PG help for several seasons now and have had delusions about making the playoffs. Provided Darius Garland is no longer on the board and we somehow could pull off the aforementioned moves...

Goran Dragic ($20 million), Frank Ntilikina ($5 million) and the 13th pick to the Suns for Tyler Johnson ($18 million) and the 6th pick. The Suns get a PG of present and a PG of the future, while still being able to add youth to their roster via a lottery pick.

We'd end up with the 3rd pick to select Ja Morant, the 6th pick to select DeAndre Hunter and the 7th pick to select Jarrett Culver.

Our starting 5 for next season....

PG: Ja Morant
SG: Jarrett Culver
F: DeAndre Hunter
F: Kevin Knox
C: Mitchell Robinson

....I think my work here is done, people. Enjoy!

We make these trades they all become stars than before they are set to become free agents the NBA decides to install a hard cap so we lose 3 of them in FA.

Get a player who can help you start winning, forget the "Kanter, Rose" type trade that nets you a 2nd rndr and disgruntled player.

I'm tierd of getting these avg players that end up getting bench by feb (to play the youth) because your 20 games under 500. we have been doing that for the last 6 seasons

I’m with you but how do you expect us to contend for a championship with those guys. I understand we haven’t done so in 20 years and we won’t this year unless we get Kawhi (which I hope we do still) but if we end up getting really nice players with big contracts that can MAYBE help us win more games and MAYBE help us get a 5-8 seed then we end up back where we are in 5 years from now, with maybe a couple of 2nd round exit to boast about.

Yes, the losing is REALLY bad. We need to continue thinking long term though. If we stay on this track, we are bound to find gold. This is called creating our own luck and not praying praying for something lucky to happen. Kind of like what the Warriors were doing before their championships.

Stay far way from CP3 and the ridiculous money owed that overhyped loser.

Yeah exactly besides the overhyped loser part.

With our luck, something way more catastrophic would happen. One of the three probably identifies as transgender and instead declares for the WNBA; the other would probably be operating a drug empire on the order of a Pablo Escobar only to be discovered by the authorities as a consequence of the attention his newfound celebrity brings him; and the third would find Jesus ala Wayne Simien and instead decide to give up this sinful path of pleasures to become a preacher.

The losing has got to stop like NOW, it hasn't done any good, we're losing our own picks in the process (kp, willy, frank at least mentally). Stop thinking that if your not a title contender than you should be focus on a top lottery pick. I rather build off a playoff run, than another 50+ loss season

If this FO can't build a PO team this off season with the amount of assets they have(more than other FO in the history of the franchise) then find someone who can.

Why are we taking other teams junk, like were a Sanford & Son organization

Overhyped loser? When is the last time he missed the playoffs? Just last season he was responsible for the Rockets becoming a legitimate contender and the only legitimate threat to arguably the best basketball dynasty ever seen.

I think the money he's owed is prohibitive given our circumstances but that doesn't mean you get to make stuff up about him. Dude is a first ballot Hall of Famer for a reason.

While I agree we need to stop losing. Can’t operate based off desperation. Have to make moves based on sound basketball decisions. By collecting as many assets and future picks and cap space as they have. Knicks have flexibility to add quality players without it being a lateral move or sacrificing the future.

If Dragic can be had due to Mia looking to just dump salary. Then that’s a sound move if the top tier FAs don’t sign. What’s not a sound move is trading a first round draft pick for Dragic Out of desperation to attempt to win now.

Chris Paul apparently said his trade demand was bogus. If you want to take that with a grain of salt, go right ahead. That’s what was said though.

You certainly don't have to worry about this FO making any risky moves, they have clearly proven to be the most conservative FO I every witness. The fact that they abandon the AD trade just to save one of the dallas picks, the fact that they couldn't trade kanters expiring contract or Noah (would have had to give up 1st round picks)and just decided to eat salaries for dinner and waive every one is a testament to how they think.

I can't wait to see what they get for Frank?

IMO anyone of the guys i mention is worth a couple of picks..Conley and CP3 can still produce and can be valuable mentors to trier, and DSJ, Barret or Ja. The other 4 guys are all stars
