Knicks · What do you say for a Melo return? (page 1)

dwiley20 @ 6/22/2019 2:04 PM
For about 4 mill/yr
Vmart @ 6/22/2019 2:25 PM
My Goodness. I’d rather give the money to Me or Walt Frazier. Better yet let’s just donate it to a good cause.
CrushAlot @ 6/22/2019 2:34 PM
No. I could see signing him for a day if he wanted to retire a Knick. I think he will be a Laker. Hopefully he can transition to being a role player. If he can’t he is done in the league v

I think he could really help us

Papabear Says

Melo never had a chance in New York. They new Melo's style of play and he never got a super star to play with him like LeBron did. I don't post much anymore and I see that if any knick is having a bad season the Knicks fans are ready to throw him under the bus. Knicks management should have never traded for Melo. We have moved so many people around that I can only name about 6 players on the team.

StarksEwing1 @ 6/22/2019 2:55 PM
No. I admit I was never a big fan of his BUT I do have respect for him because he did work his hardest and wanted to be here(unlike some people cough KP cough). However that ship has sailed. Melo fit perfectly as the 2nd guy on a contender but obviously we couldn't get that top guy
smackeddog @ 6/22/2019 3:20 PM
He’s likely going to the lakers
CleaverGreene @ 6/22/2019 3:22 PM
If he had anything to offer he would be in demand.

With a very young team, and one that has a good chance of not getting the free agents it thought it might be getting 2 months ago, it makes little sense to sign someone who will be even more of an offensive albatross than he once was.

As someone mentioned...if he wants to retire a Knick, a 1 day contract seems to be a good idea, but having him be on the roster taking time from younger players makes no sense at this point.

No

"What do you say to a Melo return?"

Absolutely no interest. Didn't like his game when he was good. Now,...

90sKnicks @ 6/22/2019 4:08 PM
No. NO. NO! GOD NO!

Melo should not be allowed anywhere near MSG ever again.

KnickDanger @ 6/22/2019 4:11 PM
A no D ball hog who thinks he's still great when he at best could play a role....

Nah.

Nalod @ 6/22/2019 4:19 PM
What do I say? Why?
And.....
Why does he want to be here? Im not being ugly, its really a good question.
He won't play much, he won't contend, and he is not of a personality to "mentor". Not every player is.
Does not make him a bad guy BTW. If Nets get Kyrie and Durant, maybe he can play one year and start and then give his spot and come off the bench year two.
But we not talking about other teams. He has a place in LA, they need cheap bodies, and if he is being religious about rebuilding his body I give him a spot.

I think that boat sailed. Hes better off in LA or on a championship team like GS....both teams need him and he plays better when needed.

And let him corrupt our youth? You think he had no impact on KP's evolution to diva? no, No, NO!

Honestly I feel like Janis was the biggest culprit poisoning KP’s mind. Melo never talked about about the organization. Despite the issues him and Phil had he didn’t skip their exit meeting

Like ringing the dinner bell, lol.

Melo is in his "Norma Desmond" phase, still thinks he's a star. Pass as well.

For the sake of discussion, I'll bite.

There is very little reason to sign a player above the Veterans Minimum EXCEPTION unless the market dictates it to be so.

You can dispose of a player on the VME and sign another to the VME if you want. This is very cap flexible. It's an EXCEPTION. You can be above the cap and sign multiple players to the VME and churn them if needed. The Warriors did this when they signed Calderon , but a day later cut him to sign someone else they needed defensively in Matt Barnes. If they signed Calderon to even a dollar more than the VME, they'd be stuck.

The league pays a large portion of the VME. So there is cash savings.

The VME helps you avoid the tax line, which is critical because even one year avoiding the tax line might prevent going into the repeater tax zone later or avoid it by one year ( which is huge) Just because the Knicks have massive cap space now doesn't mean it will be true in later years. You have to weigh out years ahead with your cap situation.

From a cap perspective , paying anyone above the VME when the market has dictated the guy has close to no value is just bad business.

Why Melo of all people?
There are so many useful players available.
Why take on the one of most useless?
Just because we know him better?
This is another reason not to...
ramtour420 @ 6/23/2019 8:46 AM
I was a Melo supporter, then after the regression from Dad Melo back to Supermassive Blackhole/diva Melo I became a critic. While Melo could be useful as one of the final pieces on a contending team , he has not been able to adjust to such a role so far at this point in his career.
As for being near youngsters it's a big No No. Bad Melo.
