I would be very concerned with how slow defensively they would be in the frontcourt. If we signed Cousins for 1 year, i would prefer Marcus Morris or Trevor Ariza instead. Either way, they could definitely win some games. If a team like Orlando or Detroit can sneak into the playoffs, i don't see why that type of team couldn't.
No it can not win. That is a lottery team all over again. Think of Sacramento with a worse Cousins on it. What did they do?
that is a very ugly starting line up on offense and defense. I'd be surprised with 20 wins
I'd rather not sign anyone than have that lineup, honestly.

Yeah, I'd rather keep developing what we have than blow money on Rozier. Guys pining on for him are gambling on him becoming a front line starter. Why not just gamble on our young guys?

I wanted to argue with both of you... I went to find stats to make my argument, but there aren't any. Rozier took a massive step backwards last season, and two seasons ago he was average at best. I think there is this story out there that he was really good an on the ascent, but he was average at best two seasons ago and last year he sucked

I wanted to argue with both of you... I went to find stats to make my argument, but there aren't any. Rozier took a massive step backwards last season, and two seasons ago he was average at best. It's common mistake. Guys blow up in the playoffs and the media starts the narrative that he's turned the corner. They neglect the fact that the playoffs are dependent as much on matchups and coaching as it is talent. A team then goes and signs him to a deal only to find out he really hasn't improved as much as they though. THJ is exhibit A. I'm not saying Rozier is trash, just that his market value exceeds what his value to the team would be.

I like the 1 yr prove it deal. But Rozier is a 2 way player, who plays defense bigger than his size. Offensive wise, his stats are similar to DSJ, so on paper it's not an upgrade. And DSJ is 3 yrs younger. But Rozier has that defensive dog mentality that DSJ doesn't currently have.
His break out performance and then decline had a lot to do with his stature and contract year status.
It might have messed his head up and rumored to be one of the root causes of locker room problems this year. Can’t blame Kyrie for everything.
Not sticking up for Rozier but having Kyrie kind of messed him up. Here is young guy doing all the right things and then Kyrie happens. Kyrie is a great player his presence basically put a damper on Rozier to grow as a player.

you shouldn't be ambivalent about Cousins. On poor teams he's had a poor attitude, and he's not the player he was. Maybe he comes back but honestly....
i feel like FO is sending out every possible trial balloon like a political campaign, rather than have a real vision and strategy
it's more like "how will the fan base react to Melo 2.o, Cousins, Randle, Rozier etc"
We have no chance of winning anything the next 3 year with the Lakers and Warriors. We might as well try to find some solid vet 2 way role players on reasonable term short deals. A vet PG is an absolute must.

The job of FO is to explore all options.
Every FA can have a purpose depending on the cost, contract length, value at the trade deadline, asset in any trade, and placeholder for the cap.
There are no bad players in NBA when the price and purpose set right.
FO should have options A, B, C, D, E, F..... X and when top options fall off switch to the next one.
Fans see the names and small part of the equation. So all this are just plain speculations.

This. Berman’s article makes it sound like Perry is fond of Rozier. I would much rather see what DSJ, Frank and Kadeem can do. Also, RJ may end up being the primary ball handler down the road.

We had a window to trade him at full retail. We took the chance he’d grow wings.
By Next season he would have not played a game in 20 months and based his fatigued rookie year then less than half a season of healthy all star play he’d be clamoring for a full max extension this summer. IF DSjr turns out fine, and really he still has a high ceiling and one of those picks too, then it all might be for something.
If you expected Zion, Kyrie and Durant then I can understand the disappointment.
