who were these players, does anybody really believes this..
I guess he means stars that didn't want to come here on one yr deals...this dude is on spin cycle..
I think he meant second tier stars like Harris. Not every max guy is created equal.
BigDaddyG wrote:I think he meant second tier stars like Harris. Not every max guy is created equal.
the sixers planned on maxing Tobias, the bucks maxed out middleton.
He should have just been honest and say "we were not maxing out anyone"

It's always something. I read some forgettable piece where we overpayed for Randle yesterday. Words are wind. Shouldn't we be happy that we didn't overpay dudes like Middleton, Brogdan or Kemba? There were less that a handful of true max players in the market and they weren't coming here. Next Chapter!
I just want to see the new team play.
BTW... if Irving continues his same ol’ and Durant starts his decline, are we even going to care about not signing them this Summer?

I never cared once Durant's achilles blew out. KI is toxic and Durant is nothing more than a former superstar - nothing special moving forward. No loss.

middleton and brogdan were exactly the dudes i wanted. if we had added them to randle we’d be sitting great for the next 6 years.

This. Also, he said guys would have met with them. They went after guys they wanted. Nice to not be giving out Tobias type contracts for a change.

I didn't mean to crap in them. But to pay guys like that without a bonafide franchise guy in place would kill us. Middleton and Brogdan next to a healthy Durant would be awesome. Middleton and Brogdan by themselves would equal another capped out team struggling for the 8th spot for the next few years.

Yeah, the Knicks are damned if they do, damned if they don't. We get killed for handing out Allan Houston type deals. If they tighten the purse strings, then they killed for not signing FAs. Whatever. The season is almost here.
95% fans know this is BS..
He wasn't talking about no damn middleton and tobias, their current teams already had them in the bag.
They didn't take a meeting with anyone, just like phil did with aldridge.
These dudes won't ever man up, they are getting roasted all over the internet..
If KD and Kyrie would have signed, and KP was still here, their wouldn't me so much negative comments towards them...

You spend too much time trying to make Mills look bad.
I spend too much making you look bad.
Twitter dude, really? You found a “Rainman circle jerk on mills”. Must have been great for you. A thread of narrow like minded.
With all about Media and the players on stage day one your consistant over time. More consumed by mills then the players.
Try rooting for the team to succeed than Mills failure.
Teams resigned their studs. Middleton goes back was easy. Brogdon is a good player on a good team.
Not sure our timeline is there for the Mooney Indy is pretty darn good. The way this team is moving I need to find my two core players then build on them. Mitch is obvious but offensively at best will be a 4-5th option at best. He could pull a Ewing and unleash a jump shot! Brogdon was a sign and trade. Indy traded a first round pick and two future seconds. Marv, you do that now? That timeline/deal is for team further along. Indy did a good deal for THEM. Middleton staring with bucks for 5 yrs and 178mil at age 28 on this roster? I like him but think of his situation in Milwaukee at his age and that money. No way he even entertains this. He shouldn’t. Why slam knicks for these moves? They were not really in anyone’s best interests or their best options.
Did media create the KD expectation more than reality?

He does that all by himself
The FO had a Town hall meeting claiming big things last season, and Dolan followed that up with more claims of Big things...
If Mills was competent to begin with, he would have gotten the job over Phil...
"Were not trading for stars that want to come here" was his exact words
Dumb ass can't see that that's the only way your going to land one..
And let me also make this clear, Im not knocking the the moves they ended up making this off season, just stop selling BS, and he is going to regret not adding an extra yr on some of this contracts.
"Max-Type" is a pretty far reaching. Just because you can pay someone the Max, doesn't mean you should.
After it was clear that Durant and Kawhi were off the market, the only other player I was interested in was D'Angelo Russell. I could not imagine a worse fit for Russell in GS. A Deandre Jordan sign and trade seemed obvious. If the Nets had aspirations of a championship, I can't imagine why they would have helped GS like that. I could see the Knicks passing on Russell only if they really believe in Smith. Or they thought Rozier was a done deal. But, I am not sure I have Russell priced as a max player. I would have given him the same contract as Randle.

brogdon signed for 4 years $85M. indy didn't have the cap space for him - we did. no assets needed to go. would have been sensational signing for us.
agree that middleton was too high for us.

Brogdon would have been nice. They probably didnt want to do the 4 yrs. But signing him over Peyton, Ellington & Bullock would have been preffered. Also probably got scared off after the THjr signing.

I just used those guys as an example of the type of talent level we needed to avoid at the max. It's an agents job to look at every avenue possible to get the most money for their client. The Knicks had money and missed badly on the KD/ Kyrie package. It would make sense for other big money players to kick the tires. We wanted to go shorter term with our deals and probably said "not now, but let's keep in touch." Whatever. We have our roster and now it's time to move forward.
Im not saying Brogden was a bad player, just that he is a better fit for Indy at that money. 21.5mm per. Insert him in the starting lineup does he really change the team? He is "Solid". Maurice Cheeks "Solid" (younger version)but not as good. 26 years old on a playoff team Solid. Take a core or Turner-Sabonis-Olidepo-and perhaps TJ warren....that's a nice team.
Rainman, why you even listen to Dolan and Mills talk and then get all disappointed? At the town hall the reality was KP and a max slot. You like a kid a Christmas thinking santa gonna do you good and its not what you hoped? Get real my man, NBA players and FO always spewing goodness to sell tickets and themselves. They are in the entertainment business. This is entertainment.
Twitter is not a bonafide source to gauge the fan. UK is the only place I go to sound off and read. Im sure there are legions of "Rainmen" Mills haters out there just creating a frenzy of justifications between yourselves. Its an opinion and your entitled to it. But don't sell me that a slice of like minded folk makes an opinon legitimate. Trump tweets and has lots of folk just eating it up as fact. Maybe your one of gullible. Maybe your offended if I call you gullible. Sorry, you seem to always look to make something legitimate buy quoting someones opinion.
Nalod:
1. Believe in bringing in young players and keeping draft players.
2. That a president>GM>Coach all hired in sequence on the same page with a goal and plan. I believe Dolan has been to impulsive over the years among other things.
3. Hiring Phil was a good concept, but it was impulsive and not well thought out and thus not well executed.
4. Firing Grunwald and then hiring Mills in the McKinsey Era was a good plan. McKinsey was not a good execution. If we moved on and corrected it then its done. Was it Mills Idea? I don't know. If it was, did he reinstitute it when in power. Seems not. See, people can think and adapt.
5. I did not hire MIlls. I would like a guy like Morey or Presti. Not my choice. I don't care about Mills, I care about what he is doing. I like what he is doing. Perry an up and comer? I don't know. I like what Perry is doing. Don't care what he did previously because it does not always correlate. WE have picks, we keep picks, we rebuilt, went young. All things I agree with.
6. Hired Fiz. Is he a better coach for messing up in Memphis? He says so. Did Memphis go on to great things without him? Nope. Did he make Gasol better? Marc says so. He had an allstar year after Fiz left with that new outside game Fiz insisted. He has a chip. Did I want Bud? Sure. Did Bud make the right choice for Bud? He did. So did Kerr. Not every thing knicks do is because of Dolan/mills Rainman Taint.
7. I like the core youth.
Knicks won 17 games last year. It sucked. Team should be better in many facets.
