The same Pitino who cut bait on Billups months after drafting him in the lottery? Pitino had success with the Knicks, but was a disaster with the Celtics. Wouldn't hurt bringing him in for an interview, but he'd be low on my list. He would really have to blow my socks off.

Wasn't it Pitino who said Donovan would be a star. Yeah i know one expects a coach to say that, but it could also be the case he knows which players will translate to NBA

He said the player he coached would be a star? Go figure. I also remember him saying Peyton Silva was an NBA players. I also remember Mark Jackson saying Pitino would hype him up into believing he was better than Magic Johnson. Pitino should be a Hall of Famer. The other side of that equation is that he's a con man.

Antoine walker.....Traded Joe Johnson middle of rookie year, traded Rookie Billups for Kenny Anderson.

SVG? He doesn't even like himself!!!!!

I forgot about Iso Joe. Talk about a guy not patient enough to develop the youth. Also, note that none of organizations he leaves are left in good order when he's gone. I'm sure Louisville would still make that deal with the devil, but we can't deal at this point in time.

ccch @ 11/17/2019 10:55 AM
It's hard to comprehend.

Leading by two with some 3 seconds left — after a timeout — they let the shooter who had made 8 three pointers that night take one more to end the game.

"You never want to lose any game, but especially when you got a solid lead. But give them credit," Knicks coach David Fizdale said. "They turned up their defense on us and they really shot the heck out of that 3 ball. I mean, 17 for 48 from 3. That's pretty impressive. And obviously the last one was the backbreaker."

Not worried about Pitino making trades as he would just be a coach. Rick has had a messy affair in Louisville but his basketball acumen is still high. That's my concern. The ladies of the night thing was sort of the last straw for him. I don't really put it on him but he is the "head coach" and it falls on his shoulders. To go for a young coach we had hoped to grow with the job to freaking out 10 games into season two and then suggest bring in 67 year old Rick with his Caitlyn Jenner looking facelift is a panic move.

Not sure why this coach thing is even come up.
The team is not ready to compete. This is a fact everybody knows.
It is understandable that fans want wins and as usual are projecting their hopes for the future into now.
This does not change the reality of it. Team still sucks.
And it will with any coach.
Of course if we will hire some no-name assistant or NBA newcomer just to set the expectations low it will be no coach firing talks.
Not sure why Fiz is coming with expectations. He achieved nothing in NBA so far.
His evaluation as a coach of the knicks can start when we will have NBA worthy roster. For now we have about 4-5 players out of 8-9 we need.
I am not talking about excuses. There is no ground for any evaluation of the coach so his performance is completely unknown.

NYKBocker @ 11/21/2019 4:35 PM
OK. Maybe Fizdale is not so bad.

So if no FA are coming here, development seems slower than ever, when do we start to evaluate him, after we issue him a contract extension?

when does accountability going to effect.. in 2025?

how many seasons have to end in december

When team will be ready to compete. May be next week, may be in 3 years.
No one know the future. So why bother about something which not known.
Contract extension time is good checkpoint. Money spend and result can be evaluated.
Season ended in December only for fans who need wins an nothing else.
You need to be a fan of contender and when the contender falls apart like Warriors this season you should switch to new contender.
Then season will end for you in June every year. Think about it...

We need talent our team sucks. Our best player is a rookie that can't shoot at all

exactly.

I think its funny that fans here think a coaching change, during the season at that, will make a difference.

Worked when Woodson took over from MDA midseason..

Extremely small sample size and he had, IN MY OPINION, a very dominate player in Carmelo Anthony.

So, Unless you think Randle or Morris are at that same level as Anthony (or Stoudimare for that matter), I don't believe it would make much of a difference who is coaching this team.

Dantoni also resigned. He was in a lame duck situation with his contract and would be done after that season. Woodson was brought in in part to take Dantoni’s place if things didn’t work out.

it's early in the season. We're literally throwing away another season of potential development by keeping a coach who can't develop or win

there's some romantic ideal of keeping a coach and consistency. GS switched coaches after a 50+ win season and improved 16 games with same roster. Toronto dumped a guy who won coach of the year and won a title. Cavs dumped a coach during the season won a title.

At the end of the day, the FO is supposed to exercise judgment and figure out what's best for the franchise (not themselves). I have a hard time identifying one reason why keeping the coach makes sense

one might argue that switching coaches again will just emphasize our dysfunction

WHy is that any worse than keeping a coach who is horrible, tolerating it, when most of your best assets are young guys who need development? (Fizz was hired as a FA lure, not a teacher -- indeed he's not some seasoned coach himself yet goes around talking about "kids" as if he's Red Auerbach)

I hate to say it but everything your saying is correct. Fizdale is awful but the roach Steve Mills won't have the light turned onto he and Perrys awful roster. They will wait till the end of the season to fire Fizdale. It will buy them another year

Fiz and Mills have pimped out the organization to Randle and Morris. Our org self esteem is so pathetic we dole out over market contracts for role players with the promise that you’ll get stats and we’ll dedicate the season to you.

This whole season is meant to be a tribute to Randle and Morris because we are just so greatful they agreed to be in New York City.

I don't see it that way. This is reminiscent of when the king's signed Z Bo, Vince Carter and George Hill during Perry's tenure in 2017. I believe his thinking was that these dogs would eventually rub off on the young guys and they'd learn what it takes to compete in this league. I can see that line of reasoning. My counter point would be we still could've achieved that while still preserving cap space. I know things became squirrelly after the Bullock injury. But we didn't really need Ellington or Porter. Randle and Taj are adequate enough for back up center duty. I personally like the Morris signing and they didn't know he was available until after the fact. Hindsight is 20/20, but I would rather just sign Morris over Randle.

I don't get this..how are we not preserving cap space? All the guys we signed are expendable bar Randle until 2021 and 2020 FA is going to be the worst FA class we've had in forever.

ZBo and Vince weren’t starting for those kings and the offense didn’t revolve around their every whim

Yes, we're flexible for next year's lame FA class. But I meant in terms of taking bad contracts for assets. Real talk...none of these guys, except for maybe Morris will have legit value before the trade deadline. If we're going to suck anyway, mind as well collect some assets.

Yeah...George Hill forced his way because he was assured the team would take steps to compete. I think all those guys were traded or let go. It'd be cool if we could find takers for our "valued" vets at the end of the trade deadline.
