They can have anyone on our roster and our unprotected first ! To bring home KAT a die hard knicks fan that would be incredible!

Dangerous move. They cannot have Barrett and they certainly can’t have this years first.

TLover @ 12/25/2019 9:41 PM
Could be just a NY post Christmas special article but I’m sure KAT would be intrigued about playing for the Knicks.

Would even take on Wiggins’ crazy contract to
keep Barrett & keep our #1 top 10 protected. Wiggins btw is having a career year so far.

If somehow also add D.Russell, that’s a squad.

I would give them both Dallas picks as well.

Randle, Frank, Trier, 2 future first rounders

A deal starts with this years draft pick. That’s fine in a weak draft, just keep Barrett. A team built around Barrett and towns is a start. They would compliment each other very well.

They reportedly are interested in DSJ. Swap out Frank for him if they prefer and get that deal done.

They would. The Knicks also probably still would have a late first if they trade Morris.

At this point to avoid losing Barrett a deal probably starts with our high draft pick , the 2 Dallas picks, Mitch and they would probably want to take a flier on DSJ. Portis and Ellington for matching purposes. I’d keep Morris. It’s not ideal but that’s the minimum cost to get in the conversation and leaves us with a rotation of;

C Towns/ Gibson
PF Randle/ Knox
SF Morris/ Bullock
SG Barrett/Dotson
PG Payton/ Ntilikina

why would minnesota trade him? Seems they have him under contract for his peak years which he is coming in to.

I guess maybe they would say they are so bad they need to reset, but I just don't see what we could give them.

It would be different if he weren't under contract.

Lastly- how does trading him help? I guess depending on who we give up, but we're not going to be better than Minny with him on the roster? Adding him, how do we take the next step? How do we improve talent around him?

I agree- why would the Twolves trade him? I think they'll instead try and make a deal with the Warriors for Russell- Towns and him are friends.

If the Twolves did decide to move Towns and move him to us, then say goodbye to Mitch

I think in that scenario, we'd then try and flip Randle to the Hornets for Rozier. This might be controversial, but I'd rather lose Barrett than this years first rounder. I'm just not convinced of RJ's future, I like him, but I just don't see him getting hugely better, and I'm not sure how you can last with your starting SG being a poor shooter. I'd be fine giving up the Mavs picks as it looks like they'll be late first rounders judging by how the Cavs have been playing this year.

smackeddog @ 12/26/2019 5:09 AM
Here are the numbers for those who want to construct trades:

Towns $27mil (then $30mil, $32mil, $34mil)

might also want to get rid of:

Dieng $16mil (then $17mil)
Teague $19mil expiring

Knicks:

Randle $18mil
Portis $15mil
Ellington $8mil
Barrett $8mil
Frank $5mil
DSJ $4.5mil
Knox $4mil
Trier $3.5mil
Mitch $1.6mil

I didn't include these two for the reasons in the brackets:

Marcus $15mil (I think after the Butler debacle they'd be very very wary of wanting Morris)
Taj $9mil (Didn't he just leave there? Don't see him being traded either).

So salary wise, most likely would be Portis ($15mil) plus Barrett or Ellington and picks (each is $8mil) plus DSJ ($4.5mil) plus Mitch $1.6mil. You could even take out the Barrett or Ellington element and replace it with Knox and Trier.

I know what you’re saying but Barrett would almost definitely be the first pick in this year's draft.

He would be the prime suspect in that trade, although I totally understand your thinking

I think this is just Berman reaching for possibilities. Everyone knows Mills built this roster hoping for a disgruntled star to request a trade.

Should of been a Knick in the frickin first place had we just lost those last 2 games. COnstantly screwing ourselves out of higher draft position. The franchise is so stupid they decide to tank after they change the rules to screw the worst teams in the league out of talent.

Keep our pick then what remains would be poetic - in effect trading the return we got for a declining Melo and a disgruntled KP for KAT. And we'd be the better for it. A Towns/Randle/Morris/Barrett rotation can make the playoffs. We need better guard play, which could come next year with our 1st round pick. Let's roll.

That I don't get either. However from our standpoint trading a bunch of assets for a Center is the height of stupidity. The only plus is we have a much better chance at grabbing free agents. If Im the Wolves Im asking for Robinson, Barrett, 2020 First unprotected, 2022 First unprotected, both Dallas picks.

I think we could lessen the pain of draft pick compensation by taking whatever contracts the Wolves feel like dumping.
I think there is zero chance this deal gets done without trading this years first or Barrett.

ramtour420 @ 12/26/2019 10:17 AM
Is KAT really that much better than Mitch ? I understand that he is better offensively and can stretch the floor, but is he really worth trading the farm for?

Eh, we did end up with KP, so I can't be that mad. But yeah, everyone on our roster should be on the table. KATs arguably having a better season than Embiid and Jokic. Nobody on our roster will touch that. We just have to be careful not to give up too much.
