I am for the trade, but it's laughable what their plan is. They will not get KAT cheap. Paul George cost 5 draft picks. The pay off for KAT will be huge. And defensively you do not improve.
They're better off just waiting for some luck in the draft then giving up all the assets it will require to get KAT. Trust me, he won't come cheap. You're talking Mitch, RJB, and some picks.
I don't have a problem including Barrett in a trade. The more I watch him the less I believe in him. He is a Terrible shooter. He can't finish at the rim. His value will only get worse from here. I would rather trade him than our lottery pick this year. I think Barrett will be a solid pro I'm thinking Rodney Hood maybe Batum. Horrible value for the 3rd pick. Knicks just have awful luck on top of a horrible front office and coaching staff
I wouldn't call it horrible value at the third considering the overall talent of the last draft. RJ probably still goes no later than 5 in a redraft. I'm higher on RJ, but I agree that trade talks shouldn't stop when his name is mentioned. And no Zingis, KAT is better than Kristaps, no matter what mental gymnastics you try to use to convince yourself. KAT is better than Kristaps. Jokic is better than Kristaps. Embiid is better than Kristaps. Siakam is better than Kristaps. Any of those guys would be upgrades.
On offense KAT, Jokic and Embiid are better. On defense, Kristaps is elite, second only to Anthony Davis in what he can do for a team on the defensive end. How do you think the Mavericks won 2 games without Luka, and they cover for Luka on defense?Anyway I agree with you, that it is an upgrade. What I am saying is that the amount it will cost the Knicks, in my opinion, will be ridiculous when you think back about what they got back for Kristaps. They got back Smith Jr and two picks. This trade will cost them that, plus Mitch and Barrett, and taking on a bad contract. If it even happens. Look at the trade return for the Anthony Davis deal, and the Paul George deal. While KAT is not on par with Anthony Davis, he will command that much talent in return to get the Wolves to accept a deal because he is on a 4 year contract after this year, so you have his services for a guaranteed 4 years. The Wolves will get a lot for him. Similar to what Pelicans gave up for Anthony Davis.
They also got a lot of cap space. That didn’t workout the way they planned but moving on from Lee and Tim’s deals was a big part of that trade.
I’ve been giving this some thought and if we trade Morris for a first and ship that along with the return from the KP trade...is it a terrible deal? We’d really just be trading KP for KAT which would be an easy win for us. We’d get KAT and still keep our pick with a chance at a game changing PG. I would worry about our long term fit going forward with Randle Mitch and KAT.
Would you trade for KAT if it meant taking back Wiggins and his awful contract? Would likely have to trade Randle, Mitch, Portis, Ellington DSJr and Knox to match salaries plus a boat load of first rounders. Would leave us with:

Wiggins has looked better this season, though his three point shooting has tailed off. Still want no part of that contract.

Just say No to KAT - another talented but one way player. I was hoping we would have drafted him so I was a fan. As good as he is offensively, you simply can't give that much of the cap to a one way player. Only way I'd consider is if it were a dump for our undesirables (Portis, DSJr, Dallas picks) and even then we should probably pass. I passed on the proposed AD trades last year b/c the price was too high - but at least AD fits the kind of player you could max out and not immediately regret. Also, his toughness seems in question from last year... Yes we suck and you have to start somewhere, but Towns ain't it!

Don't worry. While I disagree with you on KAT, it's easy to see we really don't have enough to make aove. Nothing wrong with kicking the tires tho.
KAT is AMAZING... similar in talent to Anthony Davis (okay, maybe not on defense) and a step bigger and better than Randle, and KP for that matter. He can make shots from all over the floor... and he'd absolutely be the best player on this team.
There's the topic of empty calories (and empty stats). The challenge with the NBA these days is that you can't plug in a 20/10 big man and have an instant contender. The game has changed.
Giannis overcomes this because he has strong PG-like skills.
Anthony Davis, for all his individual brilliance, has barely sniffed the playoffs throughout his career. And he's one of the few bigs that would have looked right at home against the Ewing/Olajuwon/Admiral/Shaq/Mourning's of the world. (Then again, Enes Kanter probably would have been amazing back then too)
You know, wouldn't it be great if we could trade our free agent haul from this summer and grab a better big than KP.
If I were Minnesota, I'd be happy to get Mitchell Robinson & Randle as my main two pieces back from the trade. As mention many times before, Mitch is the best big man deal in the entire NBA.
GSW makes too much sense as a trade partner trading Russell and a 2020 first for KAT. Next year for GSW:

Kills me that the Knicks didn’t go harder after Russell. He’s special and would have been a tremendous piece in a trade.
KATs defensive number are really bad. His talent is very similar to KP, but he’s a little more for dorable and polished offensively. But there impact on the game is fairly similar.
If the Knicks get creative and get picks for Morris and Frank, I would be open to sending Smith Jr, Knox, Randle, this years first, the two Dallas picks and potential picks moving frank and Morris. You need to keep Mitch to cover up for KATs defensive liabilities.
Then the team starts to come together and become more appetizing.

To be honest, I don't think that's the strongest package unless that pick turns into the first overall pick. As we all know, that's definitely not a guarantee. We know Minessota likes Russell, but would they like him the same going into a rebuild? But there other teams out there that can offer picks and salary relief. We'll have to see
